Region 6 men's basketball / Re: MBB: Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference

Thanks Ziggy. A lot of interesting comments on Regent and the ASC.

I'm still a little neutral on the conference myself. Obviously, I would love a traditional conference. But that's not feasible at the moment.
The NCAA landscape, at all levels, is chaotic. If there was a single best solution, it would have been done already.

Where does Regent (Virginia Beach VA) land about 2028-29?
The C2C, if anywhere. Since radical fundamentalist college Bob Jones had no conferences wanting to take them, I don't see Regent doing any better. I live near there, and they have a LONG way to go to be anywhere near a D3 school. Regent has NO on-campus athletic facilities, no dorms, no field, no gym for basketball or volleyball, no baseball field. All their home games take place at local Christian private high schools and rec centers. I can't see the ODAC or USA South even glancing their way. They are best staying in the NCCAA, or maybe the USCAA if they get some facilities.

I think one of the issues with Bob Jones was games/travel on Sunday. But I'm not really sure. I thought I heard that somewhere.

Regent will be fine when it comes to athletic facilities. I'm sure they had a plan in place for facilities before they dropped their name in the D3 arena. I predict it will not take long before they have very nice facilities.

They just made recruiting harder for D3 schools in VA and NC.

Montclair St. - 21
Union - 35
After I lightly trash talked the NJAC yesterday, It would be a typical Union thing to not show up and have a dogfight or even lose here. But I'll continue giving them the benefit of the doubt for now. I like Union in a 2 TD comeback win.

I think your "light" trash talking is warranted. The conference is down.
Keystone - 10
Hobart - 35
I wouldn't mind seeing Hobart getting their offense going this week. I'd expect somewhere around a double monkey-stomp.

I thought a monkey-stomp was 20 points (Thus, a double would be 40). Or is that in basketball?

Now that I live in SW Ohio, catching Mount Union on the road is more likely than seeing a Rowan game. The Profs played well on both sides of the ball this week, so that was nice... caught the game on the web.
After all these years, ironically, I have a daughter attending college and playing softball in northeast Ohio.

Wife got promoted and transferred. I do marketing from home. My son will be 8 in November. We visted the Cincinnati area a few times because her boss wanted to see if we'd like it. The people are so nice and the city is so clean. There's plenty to do. Tennessee is on the potential retirement living list. My son is still young enough that he hasn't developed those life long relationships. So we decided to go for it. And for a bourbon drinker like me, the good small batch KY and TN stuff is significantly cheaper.

We are living in between Dayton and Cincinnati. Son is getting busy... he's got BJJ, drum lessons, and catechism.  There's indoor kiddie flag fb in January, if he's interested.

I haven't touched a golf club in about 20 years. Got a nice public 9 hole executive course 3 miles from the house, and a 36 hole 5 miles from the house. Feeling the tingle. Gonna work at the indoor and outdoor ranges in the offseason.

Homecoming at the high school is on Oct 6. The locals have told me that on Friday night, the town basically stops for football, and homecoming is even larger. Planning on taking the kid and the wife to feel the energy.

Catechism..................love it. Churches are so devoid of young people these days. You are doing a great job and teaching him, by far, what is the most important in the very brief time that we are here. God Bless you for it!!

I'm been very fortunate to be an older Dad with a 7-8 year old. I am able to experience all these great things as my son goes through them for the first time. I did my 14 hr work days before he came around. Bus stop waiting in the AM is great. Yesterday, he explained to me why farts make noise. Good times. Every morning it's something interesting.

Farts are fun. While drum lessons are promising, a good pep band, in addition to a kazoo, needs a trumpet. Air being pumped through a narrow opening results in a glorious sound! Let me be the first Pep Band recruiter to reach out to JT2 Jr. He would be most welcome at Alfred University....an easy 8 hour drive from Cincy...to add to our amazing glorified flatulence.

On Saxon Warriors!

My son has been exposed to music very early on... blues, pop, rock, and country and when Mom isn't around we listen to the good stuff AC/DC, Kiss, Metallica, Motley Crue, etc. He's never really been into kiddie songs, has his own playlists. He mentioned he wanted to play in a rock band. I said there are three main instruments, guitar, piano, and drums. He picked drums. I said fine, but he must commit to 30 weekly lessons, and he can't quit before 30 lessons.

Echos of my Father... I was never allowed to quit any sport mid-season, and any lessons had to be for a minimum of six months.

God first...............all else second.

I wish that I had never given up on the guitar and piano. My nastiest looking friends dated all of the hottest girls. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.......need I say more. :)

Hahaha. That’s funny. I am just learning to play the guitar. My daughter and son-in-law bought me a guitar last year for my birthday and my wife bought lessons. Now I need to practice more. My son-in-law is a professional musician and my daughter is a professional dancer (before she started having children. Now she teaches and choreographs). I want to be able to sit around and jam with my grandchildren as I am sure they will be musically talented.

A good week for the LL going 6-1 with the lone loss by Buffalo State to Apprentice the Shipbuilders from Newport News(FYI the Builders beat Christopher Newport last year , and CNU barely lost to JHU yesterday .....how good is JHU??)

Alternatively, how good are the Builders at NNA? Take a look at that coaching staff. An assistant who was drafted in the 3rd round. A HC with significant experience. Couple the solid coaching group with the fact that these kids are TOUGH. They are in class and/or working on the docks during the day. Practice after hours and play football on weekends. These are guys that feel more comfortable working with their hands and learning trades/skills not found in a normal 4 year academic institutions. All of them can play at the D3 level, some even higher. They just choose the more blue collar route. I love the fact that these guys compete every weekend and during the week they are learning how to build nuclear powered aircraft carriers and submarines!

I like how the roster lists their trade

Good luck to all and may your team win this weekend!!

Yikes....I had a mental block about catechism! Those nuns were strict!!!!

New top 25 is out: Salisbury out as expected. Surprised not see CNU with more votes.

You mean at least 1? hahaha! I had to go back and look to see if I missed a CNU vote.

10
So close. Much closer than I expected. CNU had a chance to win. I’m not sure if CNU is a lot better than I am thinking or if JHU is way over ranked. A little of both?

I hope Dzierski is ok. Our backup QB shows promise.

On to next week.

As a parent of 4 you have to look into EVERYTHING when it comes to education.
Sticker price, Grad rates, placement rates etc.
It always drove me nuts when fellow parents would rip on cost of private Higher Ed and applaud state edus
One word for any parents out there looking-
If everything is equal- look for the hidden fees and conditions of "free tuition"
Excelsior is amazing- but holy smoke read the fine print!

So very true. I have 2 adult children and there are so many factors involved. And there is no such thing as apples to apples comparison. It's a fruit salad. Apples to oranges to grapes to pineapple to cherries etc....drives you nuts. And it isn't always about money. You want your kid to be in a place where there is a fit and they can become successful (by whatever definition they use to define success).

My son decided on a technical college and has a degree in Network Security. My daughter started at JMU and transferred to CNU after one semester. Long story but she couldn't chase her dream while at JMU. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Economics and became a professional dancer. She's old (32) and now choreographs and teaches. I like to ask her how it feels to be "washed up" at 32!!!

Both kids had students loans that, fortunately, were paid off quickly. I am so glad that part of life is behind me. Best of luck to you and your kids!

Cheers!

Between their pricing practices, the ridiculous lack of transparency, and the student loans, there’s just no industry in America that gets away with predatory behavior like higher education.  It’s shameful and a total disservice to students and parents.  Different acceptance rates based on what you can pay, absurd sticker price/net cost dynamics that hide the ball, nickle and diming kids on transfer credits, endless junk fees, and perhaps worst of all, making kids pay for a dozen GenEd classes they neither want nor need.  It’s no wonder that the percentage of young adults who think going to college is important has dropped from 74% to 41% in the last decade.

I totally agree!! My biggest gripe with higher education is this "tenure" nonsense! How about "Do your job, keep your job"? I know a few tenured profs that should be long gone!!!

Cheers to you as well.
2 in currently Oneonta State and St. Bonaventure U
Polar opposite colleges --perfect fits for the kids.
Now to get the rest of thr crew out of the house and Mrs 91 and I can have some quiet!  :-)

Interesting connection. The Voice of The Captains, who calls the CNU football and basketball games is a St. Bonaventure alum and used to call the basketball games for the Bonnies. He grew up in Olean. His father-in-law is in the St. Bonaventure Hall of Fame...Robert Sassone.

Quiet? Let me know how that works. We've had family members and friends living with us almost non stop since the kids were in college. Still do.

"Support"
I get that these schools are all competing for the same kids essentially.
Sure there are some institutions that have a traditionally higher tuition, but in the grand scheme the kids are the same bunch.
Some may think that state schools have a tuition advantage- not so fast my friend- I have 2 in college now- one at a SUNY - one at a private.
SUNY has cost us MORE than the private even though tuition is in the very high 30s!

Good insight. Not many understand that there is a difference between "sticker price" and what actually leaves your pocket until it is time for that money to actually leave your pocket!

15
and if there was a defensive rookie of the week, I'd mention Taizuan Brown of CNU.

4 tackles and a pick 6. return of 32 yards for the score.
