The schedule is official. Any idea why they decided to put the UWW game on September 16 at noon? I was planning to come up for that one but I'm not sure I want to roast in the 98 degree mid day sun for three hours. Might need to switch to the McMurry game instead.

Might allow UWW to cut one night off the overnight stay. Or not drive on the buses until 5 a.m.

Would think that is the case. Often times, teams that have to fly in prefer to save time and money by getting on a late flight out that night of the game, rather than staying another night. Happens with just about every playoff game. Teams almost never stay the night after a playoff game, no matter where they are flying back to.

Good points. On the bright side, the Texas heat might be an advantage for the Crusaders. Those big Wisconsin boys probably aren't used to that.

I bet it is because of the flight, after all the game was at noon in Wisconsin for probably the same reason, but no doubt the heat could be a helpful factor for the Cru.

Yes, and because 8 a.m. Pacific Time is not seen as appropriate for a championship game.

That is fair, although I always feel bad for pacific time zone people either way because prime time for EST and CST time zone means they are still at work.

Generally the decision is between Friday at 7 and Saturday at 11 a.m.  Friday is seen as being the better option.

Saturday night is not one of the time slots on the table.

Better option because is is prime time TV or what?

Curious for peoples thoughts, with the football championship being on Friday on ESPNU and the basketball championship being on CBS Sports, are we getting enough value to offset the lost capacity to watch it as most people do not have those channels? I cut the cord awhile back but before I did I had a decent package and it didn't even include CBS Sports.

I think it is a, damned if you don't, damned if you do situation.  I don't know of any other networks that will have national reach but are small enough to want to televise the D3 championships.  I would shudder to think how much it'd cost to get it on one of the more mainstream television channels... Maybe prime would be cool?  Lol.

You are probably right, I am not the biggest basketball fan so once UMHB was out I didn't pay much attention but when I tried to tune in late for the basketball championship I was surprised that even with all the stuff that I do pay for plus the ability to "borrow" from my parents decent cable package I didn't have access to it. Regarding football it also makes me wonder if we are going to be shifted to ESPNU/ESPN3 can we at least go back to Saturday day/night, that would seem to make it a bit easier to get to and be more in line with the typical calendar.

Oof, UMHB only gets 4 home games this season.
Are you sure about that? Unless we're playing someone on the road 2 years in a row, I see the following home games:

UW-Whitewater
HSU
TLU
ETBU
Howard Payne

From the season ticket email:

The 2023 Football Season Schedule will include 4 regular season home games and 6 regular season road games.
Interesting.

On the bright side, it sounds like the schedule is close to being ready. Hopefully it will be out pretty soon.

Seems like UMHB waits every t is crossed and then gives it a another week just to make sure haha.

I dunno but UW-LaX posted their sched and HSU plays up there on Sep 9 (week 2).

Talk about problems lining up games - LaX other two are at Dakota State and at Northern Michigan.

Yeah I've got UMHB playing UWRF and TLU playing UWO in week 1, ETBU playing UWL in Week 2 and UWO in week3, and then UMHB playing UWW at some point.
So I see at least 5 games between the ASC and WIAC, wonder if they formally finished up the agreement on non-conference games that was in the talks last year?

It would seem those conversations would have to be put on hold till the future of the ASC is more clear. Doesn't do the WIAC school any favors to hold spots for teams that might have to make bigger decisions as soon the season after next.

I could see them lining something up for a few seasons.  ASC doesn't lose auto bid until 2026 right?  I can't see them making a move before that happens.

We don't lose our bid but we will start to lose more scheduled games and I do have some fear of a rats fleeing a sinking ship situation where some portion of the remaining 4 schools doesn't want to be the last one standing so they make some type of move.

Well now we know 2 of the 3 non conference games for UMHB, crazy that I can only assume they are going through the phone list for the 10th time trying to convince someone to play them.

When the HBU HCU game got canceled I wondered where Trinity would go, happy for UMHB to get the game but do fell bad for HSU who seems to be having even more trouble finding games.

Now that Trinity is at the point where teams don't want to play them in non-conf I can only imagine how hard it is on teams like UMHB which have actually won nattys to find games.  And the geographic challenges make it that much worse.

Yes, I give major props to teams that do take on the challenge and especially expense to fly down to Texas. I can only hope some sort of agreement can be made to save the ASC and feature a lot of ASC-SCAC crossover games to save us all the expense and get games.

I had the pleasure of running into Coach Urban at yesterday’s SCAC men’s basketball championships and he shared what they’re planning for the non-conference slate.  I can say that it’s truly something they’ve never done before and is more challenging than last year’s schedule.  They are hoping to be able to release it this week.

I saw this leaked on Twitter yesterday.  Awesome move by all parties!

Trinity will play two DIII powerhouses in 2023

So glad to hear about this, both schools get a good non conference game that doesn't require either to get on a plane. Now all UMHB has to do is fine another team to say yes.

so how much money does BSC need to operate for another year? I’ve read they bring in around $21 million in tuition, meal, etc  and $10 million or so in annual fundraising so that’s around $30 million to run the school if those numbers are correct for a year.

Have to think that not a small number of prospective and current students are reading these stories and have already planned to leave so hard to count on a steady tuition amount.

SFU plays in an 1800-seat stadium.  D2?  Why?

A quick looks shows some interesting history there.  They originally wanted to go D2 back in the 90's but got turned down, they then tried to get into the Canadian league for college football but that never got completed, and then became the only D2 CFB team from in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  I guess that conference had everyone quit playing football but Simon Fraser, Central Washington, and Western Oregon who then joined the Lone Star Conference in 2022.  Kind of a strange fit but I guess they're the only 3 D2 football teams west of Colorado left?  I think Simon Fraser is supposed to open at Linfield, they could probably find a home in D3 but they'd have to give up scholarships... I don't know enough about them to know if that is even a possibility.

Yeah I saw that they were playing Linfield again, kind of stinks for the Wildcats because after that they are only playing 8 more games for a total of 9 which is not crazy unusual for them but when one of the 9 isn't really going to help you that has to sting.

Just throwing this out there...can confirm he is a reputable source, and he actually heard about the SCAC restarting football from his sources a few days before I got wind of it. Has some very solid connections, especially to Southwestern, so I trust his "sources".  Not saying this will for sure happen, but definitely something to think about.

Very interesting stuff Riley. In some ways this doesn't really have to change much because the reformed SCAC would still have 6 members but obviously they would be a lot less stable then if they had 8 members. Might provide a lifeline to the ASC members if the SCAC members are in need of even more non conference games though.

Also, why are these schools leaving the ASC?
McMurry says it is a "Mission and Vision" thing (my quotation marks, my assessment), that the SCAC is a more academically compatible group of schools. McM has been a Swimming affiliate for several years.

Haha love the honesty Ralph.

Do feel it is important to note that while Austin College, Southwestern and TLU are leaving the conferences, they are really just returning to the conference where they have competed in most/all other sports but the SCAC didn't sponsor football.  Adding McMurry, Schreiner and Lyon on top of the other just allowed them to not only have a bid but a fairly secured bid for the time.
