As we know I think the true Bracketology carries very little importance until about the week of conference championship games, but this is notable as it's our new selection criteria.

As you may notice, there are a few differences from in the past:

Primary Criteria—Ranking and Selection (All Contests Leading up to NCAA Championships).
(a) Won-lost percentage against Division III opponents
(b) Division III head-to-head competition
(c) Results versus common Division III opponents
(d) Results versus ranked Division III teams as established by the rankings at the time of selection. Conference postseason contests are included
(e) Division III strength of schedule
(f) Should a committee find that evaluation of a team’s won-lost percentage during the last 25 percent of the season is applicable (i.e., end-of-season performance), it may adopt such criteria with approval from the Championships Committee.

Secondary Criteria—Ranking and Selection.
(a) Non-Division III won-lost percentage
(b) Results versus common non-Division III opponents
(c) Non-Division III strength of schedule.

Men's hockey / 2012-13 Tournament Speculation Thread

Might as well get it going, even though I think the picture doesn't really begin to clarify until the second NCAA rankings come out.  But for starters, I'll cross-post this from the computer rankings discussion:

Should Oswego need a Pool C bid to make the tournament, I have a feeling it could come down to Oswego vs. Hobart for the final Pool C spot (Assuming Eau Claire/St. Norbert get one bid and Utica gets one and Norwich & Bowdin win their Pool A slots). Thier SOS and WIN are very close. If Record Against Rank is close, the tie breaker could be that one-goal win that Oswego has over Hobart. Thoughts NUProf?

While I'm not Prof, the Utica/Hobart situation is far from over. They play twice more in the regular season and a playoff meeting is quite possible.  Way too early to take a stab as to which one of those will be the preferred pool C choice.  What it's not too early to say, however, is that Oswego fans might as well be Utica fans also from here on out.  It's not likely that Wego is going to fare so hot in a comparison with Utica should it come down to it.

Obvious question some might ask re the final 2012-13 rankings:  Why did SNC finish the year down below teams it beat to it all?
