I think the datacast data-based ranking had Chicago ranked 8th after the regular season ended.

Who knew finishing among the last 16 teams in the country was a disappointment or crashing out? Did something change?

I have seen Sweet 16 banners in some gyms, but I guess those should be taken down.

As for the UAA, they have long been among the Top 3-5 leagues, but have always typically had a Top 3-5 and bottom 3-5 with far more distance between the top and bottom teams than what we have seen over the past two seasons.

I am not sure why it is controversial to refer to the UAA as the best leave in Division III.  The certainly were top to bottom.  But with success comes scrutiny so, good with the bad...

Very interesting article, slightly misleading headline as graduate transfers are rare in the UAA on average. The six other programs have averaged less than one graduate transfer in the three seasons (combined) since the Covid rule was enacted.

Calvin, Otterbein, Illinois Wesleyan (undergrad fifth year transfer) and many other liberal arts colleges have all had more or as many.

25,000 posts later... I am not convinced that you buy your own arguments.  You are too smart for that.

In terms of roster construction ... why not? Success breeds imitators.

Basketball is the family business for the Fond du Lac area Diener family.

Drake Diener has lots of of people to turn to for coaching advice including his brother and father.

I really appreciate your level of fandom, but this post is definitely worthy of a hyperbole alert.

Also, it is Concordia University Chicago.

Late twenties head coach Sean Smith... in his second year as a head coach... has coaching disciples now?

Those of us "oldies" have known him for several decades.  He was interviewed by Eric Stock for the WJBC coverage at halftime of the IWU game.  However, most IWU fans, surely current students and players, know nothing of Titan Q and his long-time coverage and comment on IWU and D3 basketball.

Credit where credit is due... Bob is probably the most well known #d3hoops commentator among those who were not yet born when Division III became a thing.

He clearly knows the IWU players and probably more CCIW players than most.

As NYU comes in ranked No. 1 in both the Men's and Women's UAA coaches polls and the highest among UAA schools in the d3hoops polls (or due to be highest), it is interesting to look back at prior conversations...

Examples include...

I keep hearing that the financial aid situation at NYU makes recruiting competitively with similar schools very difficult.  I don't know all the details or even enough to evaluate that claim with any credibility, but I do hear it a lot.

I interviewed Dagan when he took the job and asked him about recruiting. Not sure if it was on air or not, but he said that recruiting to NYU was very difficult because the school offered no financial aid. So, while schools like Williams are going one direction, NYU was already going the other.

Blackburn had just one win going in to the game yesterday against Division I Saint Louis University, but after getting thoroughly destroyed, they rebounded today to upset SLIAC rival Eureka, 4-2.

Fontbonne
Webster
Eureka

A close vote for the SLIAC coaches.

I agree with the coaches here.

Emory clinched the UAA title and the first 2023 AQ berth (if i'm not mistaken) with their 4-1 win over NYU today.

Emory clinched a share of the title and the AQ.

An incredible turn-around for a team that had only one win in UAA play and finished 6-7th a season ago.

NC will probably want to make an example of WashU.  A drubbing will take the luster of Augie's statement win last week.

Let's go beat Washington University extra bad this weekend because you know, the disrespect we have a faced or to let Augustana know we can beat them too a few weeks from now?

Definitely one of the stranger predictions I have read.

I know nothing of North Central football, but I have to think they are focused on improving on the margins to ensure another deep run in the playoffs.
