Looks like Connor Mullins is leaving UMHB:

https://twitter.com/_mullins33/status/1602364310088552456?s=20&t=GsgSBk9scAjg7nNcaD2u1w

I honestly didn't think D3 players needed to enter the portal to transfer.
If you enter the portal your name gets put on list for all coaches to see.  My son entered the portal from a D3 and got emails from schools he had never heard from.

I was wondering if this might be the case. Thanks for the response.

And it appears to have worked as he has already been offered by SFA.

I'm sure former UMHB coaches Bill Bleil and Matt Yzaguirre coaching there didn't hurt.  Although, looking at SFA's depth chart they're still pretty stacked.

Per Riley Zayas it’s an offer to walk on.

No offense to Mr. Mullins but he may be leaving for more than one reason.. 6'5" 250 lb Will Mcklintok seems to be the guy at that position.

Wouldn't be shocked if that is part of the reason, I assume all returners have a good idea of what the plan is but it is going to be really interesting to see what players turn into big time contributors after living in the shadows of Jordan, Miller and King.

Don't forget Jackson Tingley at 6'5 240 either! I was intrigued when McClintock got the start at wr over Jordan in one of the home playoff games. He didn't look too bad although he has a tendency to get punished badly in the ribs. Honestly, I always thought Mullins was a bit undersized at the TE position.

I'm a little bit behind the times having just read the D3 Football article about the SCAC 2024 plans. What's the timeline on the ASC making moves to keep it viable for football or not?

It might give McMurry a chance to win a conference championship in football for the 1st time since they were co-champs with SRSU in the old TIAA in 1983.

The conference office has said nothing.  Making matters worse SRSU was given permission by the Texas State System (of which it is a member) to negotiate a move to D2.

I suppose they have a year or so to work it out. We might not hear much for a while.

Ralph remembers when Stephen F Austin was NAIA, as do I.
I also remember staying with David Salinas at his fraternity house.
Chicky went on to be an interest on American Greed. How many of you remember that story?

It feels out of place that my undergrad alma mater (Concordia Moorhead) was involved in two national championship games against these teams in the 1960s. Sam Houston State 1964 and Texas A&I 1969. Both are now FCS (correction: A&I, now Kingsville, is D2 - SFA, Commerce, TX State and Tarleton are D1). That is well before my time, but I had a couple coaches that played or coached in those games.

This makes me wonder if the addition of NCAA 1AA football in 1978 didn't contribute to the downfall of NAIA. I also wonder if NAIA back then got more play nationally than it does now since so many more, and larger, schools were involved.

Our friend BSCpanthers reports below that Coach Tony Joe White yesterday told the team that he is leaving Birmingham-Southern for Austin College.  IMO this has everything to do with the major financial issues the school reported this week (e.g. "Give us $30 million or we're out of business in 18 months") but also will mean that visits to Sherman will no longer be quite the walk in the park they have been. Coach White turned around a struggling program at B-SC in the space of a year and once he gets a few of his recruits in I expect the same thing to be true at Austin.

Of course after next season AC won't be a concern but figured it would be of interest just the same.

News I’ve known for about 36 hours or so, but waited until he addressed the team. Tony Joe White has stepped down as head coach at Birmingham Southern.  He has accepted a job in his home state of Texas, but I don’t know what that position is.  The OC, Anthony Colucci is taking over the head coaching duties at BSC.  Of course this comes on the heals of the news that BSC is possibly shutting down due to financial reasons.  Sounds like it will be mid-January before we find out if the school will continue past May of 2023.

FORWARD, EVER!!!!!

Not 18 months, 6 months.  They have funding through May of ‘23.

Math was never my strong suit, apparently.  Thanks!

Coach White liked a tweet I put out this morning on this and has changed his profile to indicate the change.  Since he liked it, I'll put part of it here:

Quote
I know Coach White *will* make a huge difference at AC but a key will be whether or not the administration is going to support a first-class program.

(emphasis mine)

It's been a long time since I've seen anything to indicate AC wants to be anything more than a place for young men to simply continue playing football during their college years.  They built a pretty nice facility in 2000 but it's been decades since they've been competitive; in fact, 2000 was the last time they fielded a team that finished over .500 (and just barely, 6-4).
