I know Coach White *will* make a huge difference at AC but a key will be whether or not the administration is going to support a first-class program.

It's been a long time since I've seen anything to indicate AC wants to be anything more than a place for young men to simply continue playing football during their college years.  They built a pretty nice facility in 2000 but it's been decades since they've been competitive; in fact, 2000 was the last time they fielded a team that finished over .500 (and just barely, 6-4).

Austin moving to the SCAC should make the path easier for building a winning program. No more UMHB, HSU, HPU, Sul Ross nor ETBU - the top half of the ASC.

Cru picked up a RB transfer from HSU today...Tyler Woods. Entered the portal midseason this past fall...may factor into the RB rotation but the Cru already has a few guys who are developing well at that position.

Yeah, maybe he will surprise us but he was JV at HSU for 3 years.  Cormier, Kenneth Miller and Montana Miller are a tough group to leapfrog past. 

I'm more excited about Jordan Oldoerp.  Watched some of his highlights and the kid has a cannon for an arm.  Plus he played with Jackson Tingley in HS.

Welcome!  I don't think we've heard a peep out of the ASC.  There aren't really any members out there to join us with any sort of decent geographical proximity.  I was kind of hoping the ASC could pick up NAU down in Houston but they ended up going NAIA.  It looks like Lyon got offered an affiliate membership by the SCAC leaving the ASC with:

UMHB
HSU
HPU
ETBU

Considering it is mostly the bottom teams that are planning on leaving, I doubt that the SCAC will be willing to allow any more of the ASC folks to become affiliate football members.  That basically means that two of Concordia, LeTourneau, University of the Ozarks, or UT Dallas would have to start programs or maybe the ASC could lure Lyon into the conference.  Honestly, there really isn't a good option.  The only plus is that they're not planning on moving until next year and then you have a grace period before you lose your auto bid...  Honestly, I get the reasons that most of the teams are leaving but it still feels like a kind of crappy move ya know?  The only good thing is that if the ASC can somehow get to 6 teams there will be another conference in state to play non-conference games with.

So ASC football continues with eight schools next season, retaining its bid.  In 2024 there will still be six, still retaining a bid.  That combined with the Sul Ross uncertainty may be why the conference is holding off on pronouncements about the future; if Sul Ross decides they really can't come up with the cash to go D2 then they have until 2026, when TLU leaves, to worry about the two-year grace period starting.

McMurry says it is a "Mission and Vision" thing (my quotation marks, my assessment), that the SCAC is a more academically compatible group of schools. McM has been a Swimming affiliate for several years.

2026 is a long time from now.
NAIA schools whom I see as ASC candidates are Southwester Assemblies and Wayland. If Texas Wesleyan were to switch, I think they would go SCAC for the Mission and Vision reason.
