Division III track
« Reply #60 on: March 31, 2006, 12:29:48 pm »
One thought on child boards is that we would have so many child boards that it would clutter everything.  If we look at baseball so far, there is only reasonable traffic on about half of the nearly 40 boards.

What about two boards, one for national news, one for conference news?

Who will be the D3 sprint king of 2006?

Does Anthony Miles' (New Jersey City U) indoor sprint win make him the favorite . . . or does Brandon Tripp’s (Greenville) status as the top returning 100m man make him the safer bet?

John Biacofsky (Mount Union)
Kemar Brown (RPI)
Eddie Bynum (Salem State)
Phillip Givens (Sul Ross State)
Matthew Harden (IL-Wesleyan)
Thomas Hunter (New Jersey City U)
Ronald Hussey (New Jersey City U)
John Mikalik (McMurry)
Will Murdock (McMurry)
Ian Morgan (Farmingdale SUNY)
Greg Nixon (Howard Payne)
Segun Olopo (IL-Wesleyan)
John Symanski (Williams)
Matt Turman (NB-Wesleyan)
Nick Wetherby (Cortland SUNY)

Is there an unknown yearly that will take top honors?

Jean Metezier (Dubuque)
Hanneus Ollison (McMurry)
Bert Green (McMurry)
Deoante' Rivers (Mississippi)

I think in terms of boards that will be up to Pat.  The Baseball boards haven't exactly taken off for some regions, but there may be hope of getting this discussion moved to the "other sports" area.  It is the offseason, so things might happen.  You never know what Pat will have time or inclination to do.

I was competing with my team mates, the opposing schools weightmen and against myself.

knightstalker,

Did you compete collegiately?

No, by the time I got to college the left knee and right shoulder were shot, not good for a right handed weightman.  The last time I threw competitively was in 83 while I was still in the navy in a couple of open meets in the Norfolk area.

It's all done with sprinters and one or two people in the jumps.  No weights on either the mens or womens teams and no real depth.

I realize your post was not about Lincoln (PA), but look at this page . . .

Lincoln (PA) school records

Does any other school exclude some events from their school record list?

events not listed:
1500m
3k steeple
5k
10k
shot put
discus
javelin
hammer
pole vault

From the Lincoln (PA) T&F and XC web site

With success only matched by the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, the Lincoln men have won six outdoor national championships ... and five indoor national titles. The Lincoln women have won three outdoor national crowns ... and one indoor national title.

With their narrow event focus (on mostly not technique-heavy events) I wouldn't equate Lincoln's (PA) success to (W) La Crosse's.

The best performance that I have seen listed this weekend is HPU's Greg Nixon, and his 20.6 sec 200 Meters against some D2 and D1 competition.  The next best D3 time in the event was McMurry's Hann Ollison who improved his PQ time to 21.37.

Nixon's time is the 2nd fastest ever by a D3 athlete...just incredible!

http://athletics.mckenna.edu/SCIAC/d3tracklist.html

Abilene Christian University's Oliver Jackson Open

In the 100 M, McMurry's Hann Ollison and Bert Green AQ'ed with 10.48 and 10.57 respectively.

Dan Austin (Williams) opened with a 178 while Meckes (Calvin) is over 180 in both his meets.  The men's discus should be the top D3 event this spring.

The think Austin's 193-04 discus throw at Point Loma is a bit stronger than Nixon's 20.6.

USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship guidelines

While I'd say Austin's 193’4” is a strong mark, Nixon's "A" standard 20.60 punches his ticket to the USATF Champ's, the "B" standard 193-04 puts Dan on the USATF bubble, and therefore the 20.60 is a better performance in my opinion.
