I think IC798891 may be talking more about how all of the LL teams (And maybe college teams in general) are throwing more WR screens and RPO passes that are only thrown when they are open.  There isn't a lot of 5 step drop/progression type of work for the QBs where they are trying to make long throws.  The QB is just a cog in the RPO machine in todays college offense.

This. It's not really about the yardage per se. It's a type of low-risk pass that is the opposite of "Stand in the pocket, be aware of protection, go through a progression, fit a ball in a window."

It's "Catch the snap, turn your body, throw quickly."

These teams aren't airing it out down the field against each other.

Ha, yea I just looked that up and saw that.  Looks like the reason is simply that teams have more than 100 players.  Makes me think back in the day where the "varsity" team at Ithaca was a set number (70?).  Most of the freshman played JV and then you had to be "invited" back as a sophomore to play on the varsity.  If you didn't make the cut you could come back and play JV which some kids did and some injured players did as well.

I'm still perplexed by two starters having the same number.

Double numbers are a function of two things. Rosters of over 100 players and No JV teams. so teams dress everybody for home games. So you'll see two players with the same number but they'll play on opposite sides of the ball, one offense one defense. Keep in mind the players with the same number are not supposed to be on the field at the same time EVER. It's a 5 yard illegal procedure penalty. Usually you'll see this happen only on special teams plays.

As I've mentioned before it's a pet peeve of mine when announcers and statisticians get it wrong. As in crediting a defensive player for offensive stats.

If you look at Union's webpage, under their football stats for individual receiving they have #1 (Dunneman) twice and #2 (Ross twice). Ross appears to have the same stats (like a typo) but Dunneman has two different columns with different stats.

Ice, Jim Otto played both ways for Miami in college, that's why he has double 0, one number for each position(OL/LB), the Raiders didn't want to argue with him, so they let him keep 00......he's kinda mean after 37 surgeries and never missing a start(when men were real men!) .....Bartman loves double numbers, but only on the same person, like Mr. Otto ;D

Bartman...I always assumed Otto wore 00 because his name started with O and ended with O.  ???

Utah...The Union statistician is asleep at the switch. Whoever it is, SID or subordinate, there is no excuse for not getting it right. They also have not published a paper game program for 2 seasons now. Blaming Covid for making the program 100% digital. OK...but I don't like it. Especially when they've failed to provide a Two Deep. There's a link to it but it's blank.  ::)

Ice Bear is with you on this 100% Ufan. It's ****ing embarrassing that there isn't, at the very least, a two deep paper with rosters available for fans at each game. Ice believes were talking maybe 300-400 copies at best. Ice says on top of that the ****ing digital two deep (like you mentioned) doesn't even work. Ice asks how much does it cost one student to attend Union for one year...and they can't/won't put this **** out? ****ing brutal.

UFan, You are right again, but I still like my Double zero explanation...he did play both ways and he did have 37 surgeries...but his name is spelled 0tt0

As far as digital programs, they are the thing now. My son makes copies of the rosters and game notes .....and makes me think they still give paper programs....it makes me feel better.....then he just looks at his phone the whole game  Hobart has a smaller SID staff than Union, but the 2 deep is always up on Friday.....I wish our SID staff could play as well, they'd be awesome. Of course , we did a live stat hick up during one game....thank goodness the SID knows how to keep handwritten
play by play stats.

Good luck to the Dutchmen tomorrow

I don't have specific knowledge of what goes on at Union, but there are definitely coaches who do not want that 2-deep info shared.

Ice Bear says this makes sense. It’s just something that Ice was used to getting, a program with the two deep. It was a great thing to have when watching a game. Ice hates going on his phone over and over to the roster etc.
