FCGG, are those varsity sports or club sports?  I was disappointed to discover that neither the CCIW or MIAA sponsors bowling (for either gender, or coed).  I don't know how the bowling culture is in Illinois (I left there nearly fifty years ago!), but at least in SE Michigan, bowling is a varsity sport at nearly all the local public high schools (most of them at MY bowling alley - rarely when we are bowling! :-\).  I know bowling is still pretty big in the Detroit area - not sure about the rest of the state.  It was interesting that the WIAC had FOUR teams in the sectionals - bowling must be surviving in Wisconsin.

All mens teams would be club because the NCAA doesn't sponsor it. Women's teams could be varsity but I think some schools stick with club for them too.
I was a freshman when HS bowling started here in Indiana and I think it's still officially only a club sport.

Bowling will never die out in this part of the country... Detroit, Indy, Chicago, Milwaukee, St Louis always have and always will have a quality bowling scene.

The 8 team Women's NCAA Bowling Championships are underway

UW-Whitewater were seeded 8th after going 1-6 in round robin play. First round of the double elimination bracket saw them lead top seed Stephen F Austin 2-1 in the best of 7 match before SFA won the next three games.

In an elimination match they faced 5th seeded Vanderbilt. Whitewater fell behind 2-0 then won the next two to tie the match up. They lost game 5 and then had a tie in game 6. A win in game 7 tied the match at 3.5-3.5 and forced a 5 frame tiebreaker. UWW took control and won 128-96 to survive and move on to tomorrow.

Next up is Arkansas State. If they win that match they'll get a rematch with SFA and need to beat them twice in a row. If they can do that they'll reach the finals.

UW-Whitewater started off 1-7 at the NCAA Championships... since then while being 1 loss from elimination, they've won 3 straight matches. So far today they beat Arkansas St 4-0 and just beat Stephen F Austin 4-2.
The Warhawks will face SFA again in I believe 2 1/2 hours with the winner advancing to the championship against Nebraska which will be on ESPNU tonight.

Sadly no women's team made the NCAA Championships this year.

However at the Intercollegiate Team Championships there's some action. UW-Whitewater had both men and women advance through their sectional but they've been eliminated (men were the 6 seed and went 2-2 in the double elimination bracket, women were the 11 seed and went 1-2). William Paterson men also made it through their sectional and they've been rolling. After qualifying as the 9th seed of 16 they've won all 4 matches and will face McKendree University (NCAA D2) for the title.

The Intercollegiate Singles Championship had no women advance through sectionals, but 2 men made it. Brandon Runk of William Paterson ended up the 3 seed out of 24 but after getting a bye in the first round lost his first match in the bracket. Nick Kruml was the 9 seed and won his first match before being eliminated in the next round.

The titles will be decided tomorrow and will be on TV over the next several weeks on CBS Sports Network (mens team on June 4)
