Updated Central Region Rankings:

1. Washinton (MO) 24-8
2. Wartburg 21-8
3. Illinois Wesleyan 22-8
4. Luther 21-5
5. Edgewood 22-9
6. Carthage 19-11
7. Augustana 23-8
8. Concordia (IL) 21-10

Thoughts?

I feel that IWU should be a bit higher as they are running through the CCIW at 15-0 right now. What are the chances that BOTH Wartburg and Luther get a bid? Is Edgewood as good as they look... is Carthage as bad as they look?
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

I believe that is Concordia/chi. ranked #8as Concordia/wi. 's record is 15-13 and chicago's is 21-10-1

soxfan14

I think Wartburg and Luther's records are a result of weak conference as there are only 3 teams above .500 in the conference. Piling up wins in a weak conference get you a good w-l record but not a indication of how good you really are.

Edgewood is pretty solid (good defense, good hitting and 3 solid starters)

Carthage's story is one that happens every year at all levels of baseball (Lots of talent but just not able to consistently put it all together on the field at the same time)

Mr. Ypsi

I'd know how to fairly quickly research this myself if this were basketball, but anyone know the results vs. common opponents for Wartburg and Luther vs. IWU (and Carthage and Augie, for that matter)?

soxfan14

Do any of these teams with a strong finish have a chance at a NCAA bid as the Nathcon does not yet get a automatic bid?

Concordia Chi. 21-11-1
Edgewood 22-9
Rockford 18-11

knarocky22

I doubt it.  Augustana was 31-10 last year and didn't get a bid.  Edgewood would have to win out I think to get in.  I think CUC and Rockford might be on the outside looking in already.

Concordia-Chicago had a chance to at least put a feather in the cap yesterday, but IL Wesleyan came back from a big deficit, scoring in each of the last 3 innings to overcome an early 8-run deficit and stun the Cougars.

Based on my calculations (feel free to correct me if I am wrong), the in region records of these teams are:

IWU: 21-5 .807% (KEY WINS: 3-0 vs Carthage, 2-1 vs Augustana- KEY LOSSES: 0-1 vs Washington, KEY GAMES LEFT: CCIW Tourney)

Carthage: 20-7 .741% (KEY WINS: 2-1 vs Augustana- KEY LOSSES 0-3 vs IWU- KEY GAMES LEFT: 5/8 vs Concordia-Chicago, CCIW Tourney)

Augustana: 18-8 .692% (KEY WINS: 1-0 vs Concordia-Chicago- KEY LOSSES: 1-2 vs IWU, 1-2 vs Carthage, CCIW Tourney)

Any one have info on the other Central region contenders?

Wartburg

Why it is that the only school from the Nathcon that gets mentioned or forecast as a Pool B/C qualifier seems to be Edgewood.
Concordia/Chi and rockford have a w-l record that is similiar
Even though the Nathcon does not have a automatic bid,i would think that if someone wins both the reg. season and the conference tournament they should be the only school worthy of a bid if there is one.

IWU also has a come-from-behind victory over Concordia-Chicago under its' belt.
Edgewood split with Ripon and beat Washington-St. Louis non-conference.

It would seem to me that there is one spot open, perhaps 2?, I would think that Edgewood, Augustana and Rockford are battling out for it, with Carthage and Conc-Chicago with outside shots. I show the top 3 as following

Augustana, 22-9 in Regtion (71 %) with QOWI of 9.39, key region games of loss of 2 of 3 to IWU, loss of 2 of 3 to Carthage, loss to Rockford

Edgewood, 20-9 in Region (69%) with QOWI of 8.93, key region games of split with Rockford, split with Ripon, win over Washington (MO),

Rockford, 24-8 in Region (75%) with QOWI of 9.16, key region games of split with Edgewood, win over Augustana, loss to IWU, split with Pomona Pitzer.

Alot will still be played out, especially the CCIW teams as many of thier regioinal opponents are teetering between class ratings for QOW points.

If either Rockford or Edgewood wins out thier tourney I would think that would put the winner in semi decent position, the loser definetly on the outs.

Edgewood, 20-9 in Region (69%) with QOWI of 8.93, key region games of split with Rockford, split with Ripon, win over Washington (MO),

Update on this, Edgewood split with Conc - Wisconsin today, makeing thier Region Record 21-10 (67.7%) and dropping thier QOWI to 8.741, so they don't seem to be going in the right direction.

Carthage won another couple, don't have thier numbers to share, if anyone does please chime in, maybe they can still get in this.
