Who is on the "seeding committee" and who actually runs this tournament?  I've always thought the Chase was one of the cooler traditions in D3 hoops.

I have no idea.  Every piece of information I ever read references the ambiguous "tournament officials".

I do know that the final four is at RIT this year and Roberts next year.

I can also report that in 2010 there will be two Chase tournaments.  Because after the January 2010 Chase, the tourney will be switching to November.  This decision was made by a consensus vote of all participating schools' ADs and (again) "tournament officials".

Bill Pucko has a nice article today on the Chase.

http://www.mpnnow.com/sports/x743980276/Chase-basketball-tournament-A-local-jewel

He references Van Gundy -- anyone catch his work for ESPN/ABC?  I swear he doesn't let a night go by without referencing Nazareth or the Rochester area at least once.

I hope form holds and we see a UR-RIT final. But this is the Chase, and we rarely ever see a #1 vs #2 final. Geneseo will probably ruin the fun.

I agree, I don't think RIT will make it.  But they may seeing as they are the home team.  They are really tough to beat at home.  I know they are playing good basketball right now I just cant see how they are doing as good as they are.  Yes I know Carson is a beast but come on hes not the best athlete in the world.  There guards are always chippy and strong but not amazingly talented.  There big wins vs Fisher and Ithaca were on there home floor.  I think Geneseo is a better basketball team and will get further, but, like i said RIT is hosting final 4 which is a huge advantage. If RIT and UofR play again I think UofR will win by more than 2.  UofR is a young team and I think will be the best team in region come season end after the frosh get more minutes.

Here are my predictions for this evening:

#1 Rochester thumps #8 Keuka, 79-49.

#2 RIT gets by homestanding #7 Naz, 80-75.

#3 Geneseo nips #6 Brockport, 77-74.

#5 Roberts Wesleyan surprises #4 Fisher, 69-63.

I have to pick one upset, so I went with a Roberts team that is always a wild card in this thing. Brockport is an enigma but could be dangerous on their home court tonight. Naz/RIT always seems to be a tight one and I don't think that changes tonight. UR/Keuka is a mismatch.

I really enjoy the Chase, but I wish Keuka wasn't in this. They're worthless. Couldn't Hobart or Alfred replace them? I'd even take Fredonia if the mystic "tournament officials" were willing to extend its reach a little.

It'd be great if the Central NY teams could muster something similar. More than enough teams to make it work, even if most of the schools aren't as close as the Rochester area schools.

GB15,

I believe that Hobart used to be in the tourney and for some reason dropped out and were replaced by Keuka.

I've often thought the same thing, especially back when they had a pretty solid team with Docteur, Downing, Smith, etc. That would have made for a pretty loaded local tourney but maybe the prospect of 4 teams from the E8 is too much for the "tournament officials"

FD,
Nice backhanded compliments of the Tigers. They may not be the best athletes but they are playing as a team and taking care of their business at home (good teams do that), as evidenced by holding SJF to 36 freaking points, 36.

RIT beat Ithaca (very close) and Fisher (blowout).  They've lost to UR and Oneonta, both games that came down to the last couple of possessions.  I don't think you need to be skeptical anymore, this team can play with anyone in the region.

One more note, RIT frosh Marcus Lowe won E8 Rookie of the Week honors after he had a breakout game against the Bombers (18 points).

Early Results:

#1 Rochester skates by #8 Keuka, 65-54.

#4 St. John Fisher rallies by #5 Roberts Wesleyan, 72-55.

Fisher trailed with 10 mins remaining before going on a 21-1 run to put the game out of reach.

#6 Brockport leads #3 Geneseo at the half, 30-29.

Tiger - RIT always plays good strong solid Defense and are always good at home.  I think they can beat anyone in the region (as the region is down this year).  I also dont think they will get upset that much do to their good defense.  But I dont think they are as good as theyve played against Fisher and Ithaca.  I think they just played their best basketball last weekend and played a little bit above themselves.  No not because they beat Fisher ( i have RIT going past them in my Chase predictions) but they are very good at home and are always tough to beat there.    When you mention RIT you dont think of a veryy good team you think of them as solid.  Maybe some other players will start to standout as the season goes on and they will get that aura around them.  Don't take offense they have had a great start to the season and will be right there in the E8 tourny getting close to the NCAA.  I just think if this were a normal year with the region not being so weak they would be just above average.  Same with this years Fisher team, and most other teams that are mentioned in the top teams in the region.

#7 Nazareth coasts by #2 RIT, 87-73. Naz leads by double-digits for the better part of the final ten minutes. Corey MacAdam paces with 23 pts, 12 assts and 6 rebs. DeHimer holds his own against Carson for Naz, going for 22 and 6. Freshman Jordan Major with 15 off the bench. Carson with 15 and 11 for RIT. Scott Young leads the Tigers with 23 points. Once again, no #1 vs #2 in the Chase final.

#3 Geneseo rallies past #6 Brockport, 61-59. Geneseo trailed for most of the second half before nipping the 'Port. Looks like a Geneseo-UR final on the horizon.

In typical Chase fashion, #4 St. John Fisher upsets #1 Rochester, 71-66. Ozell Franklin with 22 pts for Fisher. Back and forth affair in the 2nd half. Fisher leads by two with 1 min left when UR's Marcus Roberson misses two FT's. Fisher seals the game at the line.

According to the tournament guide the seedings are determined by a vote of the head coaches just prior to the tournament. Don't know how the "vote" is turned into a seeding though. St. John Fisher vs. Nazereth in the final. Based on what I saw last night I think St. John Fisher should be favored. They played very well against a decent U of R team. Geneseo showed just how far the SUNYAC Conference has fallen over the years. The McAdam brothers appear to be the real deal, but once you get past them and Major.... (those three accounted for 75 of the 80 points Nazereth scored, the rest of the team barely touched the ball and were 1-10 from the field with 5 points).

I don't know, but I'm guessing the vote works kind of like preseason polls, where the coaches rank the teams 1-8, and the one with the most points gets the No. 1 seed and so on.

I think it should be a lot of fun tonight with Fisher and Naz in the Chase final. It is always a fun game to watch when the two teams get together. I just hope the crowds show up to get some emotion in the building. Last night was a good win for Fisher, but the place seemed kind of quiet to me.
GO FISHER!!!
