The SUNYAC board has not been the same without Magicman's predictions!

Thank you for the kind words. I thought maybe you would step in and take my place. You are certainly on top of the D3 hoops scene in the East region. 8-)

Nothing better than seeing midwest d3 schools lose to NY teams.   Every year d3 midwest teams think good sports don't exist outside of their regional bubble.

Depends upon the sport. In D3 men's soccer, the shoe is on the other foot -- northeastern teams (NESCAC and Messiah, in particular) have traditionally dominated the sport, and northeastern fans have tended to disregard the midwestern teams.

Hello Greg,
Hope you are well. I see you are still trying to make posters see the other side of the coin. Keep up the good work. ;D

For a number of years I was the main poster on the SUNYAC D3hoops board. I used to pick who would win all the games with final scores. Did a fairly good job and retired a few years ago as my health isn't good. But I had to come on this board and mention the prognostication of Bobby Comstock, who predicted a Cortland win by a score of 38-36.

Good play by play announcer and good picker. The D3 Football Gurus should give him a call and get his weekly picks.

As always your reporting of the games during baseball season was superb. You are truly, the best!!   Plus K.

Oswego State falls to UW-Whitewater 77-74.

Tough loss tonight by the Lakers. Great season for the SUNYAC Champs. I'm sure they will be back next year looking to dance once again.

Congrats to Coach Jason Leone and his team on a nice run in the tournament.

Great game by the Oswego State Lakers to go to #1 Randolph-Macon's court and end  the Yellowjackets 64 game home winning streak.

Lakers took this game over right from the start and had a double digit lead throughout much of the game. Led by as much as 16 points in the 2nd half before the Yellowjackets made a run to close within 3 points. Lakers promptly opened it back up to double digits and hit their free throws down the stretch. Final score was 74-63.

Jeremiah Sparks with 24 points, Ahkee Anderson with 22 and Devin Green with 13 led the way. Jamal Achille was the leading rebounder for Oswego with 8 boards while adding 9 points.

I believe this is the first time the Lakers have made the Elite Eight, after knocking on the door a few times in the last 6 years. They will now face UW-Whitewater who defeated Johns Hopkins in overtime 83-82.

D3hoops is showing the game starting at 7:00 PM Saturday evening.

Go Lakers

Congrats to Coach Jason Leone and the Oswego State Lakers for once again making the Sweet Sixteen. It would be nice if they could pull off a few more wins but they will have to do so, on the road, at the top ranked team in the country.

Win or lose next week, they have already made the SUNYAC proud! Another outstanding year on the court.

Go Lakers

Welcome back!

Thank you, Pat. I've never really been away as I read the boards all the time. I just don't comment much anymore.

I know augie77 already picked Oswego but they are in my conference and the coach is a friend of mine, so I'm picking them as well. Augie can have the glory I just wanted to have a team to root for in this contest.

I'll take Brooklyn College for my winless selection.

I'm having a really hard time understanding why Flockerzi was given Region 3 coach of the year over Jason Leone by d3hoops.com.   I am not going to be persuaded by the "SUNYAC was down this year" excuse.  That's weak.

NABC actually knows what they're doing and voted him coach of the year in the region.

Plus K. I agree. Coach Leone would get my vote as the top coach in the region and would have been on my short list as a candidate for National Coach of the Year as Oswego State finished the year with a 27-3 record.

Rochester had a decent year but I don't recall any coach getting Regional Coach of the Year honors  with an 18-9 won-lost record and a 4th place conference record of 8-6. They had some nice wins but too many losses. Sorry guys at d3hoops....you missed the boat on this one. I realize there are years when a new coach comes along and turns a program around and an 18-9 record might truly merit being worthy of awards, but that's not the case with Rochester this year. Coach Leone's Lakers set a program record for wins and with a little luck could have made the Final Four with an undefeated record. Final ranking is #11 in the country (I had them at #8).   I think that's a special year that deserves the top regional honors.

Congratulations to Coach Jason Leone and the Oswego State Lakers.

Maybe their season will last long enough to grab 4 more wins. With a 27-2 record the Lakers are only 3 points from having an undefeated season with just a 1 point loss and a 2 point loss. The only school with a better record than the Lakers is Randolph-Macon College at 29-1. Oswego's 27 wins are a new record for the college.

Friday night will mark 3 years and 3 days since the last time the Lakers were in the Sweet 16. They came up short that night but will have a chance for a little revenge as they lost to Marietta College in that game and get to play them once again. Marietta also comes into Friday's contest with a 27-2 record. Should be a great game.

Marietta is led by Jason Ellis, Lukas Isaly, Tim Kreeger and Mason Lydic, 4 seniors that played in that game against Oswego 3 years ago when they were freshmen. Ellis, Isaly and Kreeger started in that game and scored 13, 10 and 4 points respectively. Now as seniors they are averaging 17.3, 15.3 and 11.8 ppg respectively. Lydic is also starting and averaging 10.8 ppg. So the Lakers will have their work cut out for them. Ellis (75x182), Isaly (68x162) and Lydic (46x107) are all 3 point shooters and all three guys average over 40% from distance. The Pioneers' rotation goes 11 deep.

Marietta may be ranked #2 in the country but the Lakers can win this game. I hope there are a bunch of Laker fans going to the game to give the team some support.

What are the odds that you would play the same team in the Sweet 16 that you played the last time you were there?

Good Luck Oswego....go get em

***Slight correction...Jason Ellis and Tim Kreeger  are both 5th year seniors and were sophomore starters, not freshmen, as I mentioned above, the last time Marietta faced Oswego, in March of 2019.

In other news, NPU's 2020-21 roster is up as well.

Greg,
Do you really think the CCIW will have basketball this season? With the number of covid-19 infections increasing every day (now over 100,000 new cases per day, in the US) I will be surprised if any DIII teams suit up this year.

I can only see it happening if a vaccine hits the market in December and everyone can be innoculated by mid January. Not sure of the chances of that happening. (Although there is chatter that a vaccine is coming out in December.)

We're rather fortunate, here in Plattsburgh NY, where we've only had 213 cases of covid-19 since the pandemic started, but even so, the college has no fall sports teams and several weeks ago canceled all winter sports.

SUNYAC SEASON HAS JUST BEEN CANCELLED!!

I expected this might happen. After the NESCAC conference cancelled all their winter sports programs back on October 8th, I knew there would be other conferences that would do the same thing. The number of virus cases continues to increase daily and until we get a vaccine I don't think we'll see DIII sports anytime soon. At least in the SUNYAC.

I feel bad for all the student-athletes but especially the seniors who have lost so much of their college experience because of this pandemic. It has to be a very difficult time for all the coaches as well.
