Just getting the ball to come back to you on the fly at the free-throw line is incredibly difficult in and of itself, because it takes a combination of pinpoint precision and high velocity. Toss in the split-second pass to the corner, and the sprint-catch-and-shoot of the receiver, and you've got a really exceptional buzzer-beater in terms of its execution. The standard long-heave buzzer-beaters are fun to watch, but they often appear as though there's more of an element of random luck involved than was true of this play.

Precision you'd expect from a UAA team.....

Gosh, it feels good to post about UofR again...

And, just like that, we have six teams back in it.  Unbelievable and unprecedented.

I have to apologize to Rochester for counting them out early on.

Boy, you and me both.  Never saw this coming

Looks like it will be the first HC job for one of these guys. Got to know Jeff Juron at U of R -- he is from Saratoga, NY area and a very sharp guy so Clarkson would be a good spot for him to start a HC career. Hauser might have an edge as a former Clarkson assistant under Gilbride. Lots of coaching changes in upstate NY this year between Alfred, Hobart, RPI and Clarkson but it opens up a bunch of spots and assistants need that to get a shot at HC jobs.

Jeff was a senior my son's freshman year at UR.  Great guy from a solid basketball family

All this talk about the 2005 NCAA Tournament brings up painful memories for me! (AmherstStudent05)  I still have nightmares of Seth Hauben and Jon Onyirunka killing us on the offensive boards.

Oh well, time to focus on this year!  Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the trip up to LeFrak this weekend.  To our guests from Plattsburgh, while I wish you a good time at Amherst, forgive me for hoping that you continue to harbor unfavorable impressions of LeFrak!

The only time I got to watch Plattsburgh all year was their game against Middlebury back in January.  Obviously that was a very impressive performance -- particularly how they were able to smother an inconsistent, yet very dangerous Panther offense.  I havent been able to find much video of the Cardinals, but I have started pouring over their boxscores.  One thing that immediately jumped out at me is that Shavar Fields has yet to play this postseason.  Has he been hurt?  Any chance he suits up on Friday?  I remember Fields and Correa from our game against Plattsburgh last year.  I remember thinking that that was an awful lot of talent to be coming off the bench.  While I am usually in favor of anything that advantages Amherst, you still hate to go up against an opponent that is limited by injury and I would think that Shavar would be a most unfortunate loss for the Cardinals (not that it seems to have limited you guys too much --particularly last week against an Eastern Conn team that was certainly one of the best teams we played all year).

Anyway, whoever is wearing the purple and white for us or the red and white for you guys, I am looking forward to a competitive game on Friday.  The way I see it, you guys owe the NESCAC a win this year to balance our accounts!

While I never got to see Seth Hauben play in person, I did get to see Onyiriuka play his senior year.  He was a specimen and with Uche Ndubizu formed not only an imposing front line, but a solid entry the All-Name Team.

Roberts Wesleyan in the final for the first time since 1999-2000 and looking for their first title since they won back to back in 1966-68.  Man, that was a LONG time ago

2. Hobart vs 7. Rochester  Rochester wins by 3
3. Nazareth vs 6. Roberts Wesleyan Naz wins by 8
Semifinal Predictions
  3. Nazareth vs 7. Rochester Naz wins by 4
1. Brockport vs 5. St John Fisher Brockport wins by 6
Championship Game:
1. Brockport vs 3. Nazareth Naz wins by 2
Nazareth I think wins the Wendys Classic.

I know we talk about this every year but I really don't like that the Wendy's tournament is played so early in the year. There just isn't enough of a sample size to properly seed teams. That was always the best part of the tournament when it was played mid-season. Teams being seeded based on where they really were compared to each other, and then playing higher or lower seeds to advance. Almost like a mini NCAA tournament.

I agree.

5-0 night.  Hot damn!!!!!!! ;)

I knew you'd like that, buddy. ;)

Just got off the phone with Coach Curle. He's in New jersey getting ready for Bridgewater State tomorrow. He's feeling real proud right now as his daughter who is a freshman at Bowdoin started in the very first game of her college career. She had 7 points and a few rebounds in 19 minutes of action. Would have probably played more but had 2 fouls in the 1st 7 minutes of the 1st half and had to go to the bench.

Small world....my nephew is the SID at Bowdoin

Cortland is ranked 28th, which is improbable given their grad losses.

The pre-season rankings are based on last year, and don't necessarily factor in grad losses and attrition.  I know the Cards are loaded with most of the key parts returning, while Cortland lost a ton of talent.

The Massey ratings usually settle down around Christmas, once teams have 7-10 games under their belts.

But then again D3Hoops has Morrisville ranked in the top 25, as they've added some jucos who also had strong HS credentials including two former Jamesville-Dewitt starters.  In their league strength of schedule will kill them, so they had better run the table.

Cortland ranked 28th?  Where didu see that my friend?  On the D3 preseason ranking its Emory at 28th withWittenberg in front of them! Unless Im reading something wrong.

I think that thebear was looking at the final rankings from last year instead of the preseason rankings of this year when he mentioned Cortland at #28 and Morrisville in the Top 25. (They (Cortland) actually ended the year at #27 and Mo State was ranked at #20.)

Or he could have been on drugs. ;D

While I won't debate Bear's alleged use of medication, Moo-Ville is actually ranked #20 in the pre-season.

No U of R posts ? Well here goes..
HC Scott Greene entering his 8th year with basically nothing to show but losing records. His first 2 seasons he won..
but last 5 seasons all sub .500. Zero improvement.
Is U of R in love with this guy because he played in the NFL years ago as a FB ? No expectations there ? Largest employer in the Rochester area. They must have money. Cheesy website doesn't say what assistant coaches coach..so hard to tell about coordinators. Looks basically like young, unproven guys. Don't even know if Greene was ever a coordinator himself..just a LB coach.
Most recruits probably never heard of him..yet administration must be enamored with him to keep him on with that record.  Maybe their facilities are not that great ??   Their hoops teams can win.why not football ? Not asking a ton here..just one winning record ..one 5-5 or 6-4 season. Sheesh.

I have followed UofR football from a distance since 2007.  My son played basketball there and was close to a number of football players, including some he knew from HS days.  In fact he's still very close to a former lineman and linebacker.  From my perspective I could never figure out how the team could be so hot and cold, year in and year out.  From what I've heard third-hand, things are not likely to change until the coaching staff changes
