The good things helping Case and Marietta are very strong SOS numbers.  Case with the toughest schedule in the country and Marietta with the 7th toughest.  Both have similar records as well--which is the "not so good"  (ie 12 losses).

If Marietta doesn't win the OAC tournament, then a slight positive is that they hold the edge over Case because they took the season series 2 games to 1.

If I were Case, I would be cheering for Marietta to win the Pool A bid out of the OAC.

Interesting year so far, this definitely seems to be a down year for the Conference. Does anyone have the pitching to make it out the first weekend of the playoffs?

do you mean win a Regional?  there is only one weekend of the playoffs before the World Series.

anything can happen in mid May, that's still a long way off, lots of games to be played.  Once you're in a Regional, everyone has a shot.

Looks like Otterbein's DH at Capital got moved to Thursday, and Otterbein is still playing their DH with Marietta as scheduled for Wed.

Helps Otterbein, as now they'll have their top 2 pitchers vs Marietta's #3/4.  But then Otterbein has to play a DH on thurs at Capital, and another dh on Saturday vs John Carroll.

big news for the Marietta alumni....

Matt DeSalvo (Marietta, 2003) will be inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame, as part of the 2016 class.  Matt becomes the first DIII Pitcher to ever be inducted, and only the fourth overall DIII person inducted.  He joins his former coach Don Schaly, Tim Jorgensen from Oshkosh, and former ECSU coach Bill Holowaty.

I played with Matt, and as a Marietta alum, we couldn't be more proud.  He was a great player, teammate, and representative for Marietta for many years.

Marietta will be tested early and often this season.   They open up with last year's champs, and the tough schedule doesn't slow down much. Here some "big games."  Definitely one of the toughest schedules in the country.

#1 SUNY Cortland (in North Carolina)
#17 Methodist (in North Carolina)
St. John Fisher (DH) (in FL)
#7 Rhodes(in FL)
#12 Wartburg (in FL)
at Piedmont (at Piedmont)
#9 Birmingham-Southern (at Piedmont)
Adrian College (at Piedmont)
La Roche
Thomas More
Case-Western
#28 Frostburg State
Ohio Wesleyan
at Denison
#21 Wooster
#19 Baldwin Wallace (DH)
Washington & Jefferson
at #18 Heidelberg (DH)
at Case Western (DH)

^^^^^ glad it worked out for them, but that's playing with fire...big time. And it showed today how you can get burned. Unfortunately for them it's in their biggest game of the year.

^^^  exactly!  If they have been used in that role all year, and that's been their approach with them, then why in the world did they wait until the 7th inning with the game spiraling out of control??  why not get the starter out after the 6th?  or after the lead-off man got on in the 7th?  It seems pretty obvious that they were trying to extend the starter AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, and that can't be done in a lose-and-go-home game, especially in the World Series.

just a bad job of handling what sounds like a very good bullpen.

Trinity's defense is really letting them down, and it seems to me that if their pitching staff was so deep they would've pulled the trigger earlier on the starter.  You can't save pitchers for the championship series, you have to GET there first.  Down 5-3 in the 7th with bases loaded and NO outs, is too late in my opinion for a starter to still be in the game.

*** edit - and unfortunately for Trinity they couldn't stop the bleeding as they rolled in few different relievers.  Giving up 4 more runs.

I really don't understand how the Friday starter, and Saturday starter, weren't ready to go in that situation.  They both would be on normal bullpen days, and should be able to give anywhere from 1-3 innings of work.

Hindsight is 20-20 I guess, and the Trinity staff may be kicking themselves for leaving their top guys watching from the bench as they TRY to save them for the Championship Series.
