Final:  Trine 4, Coe 1

It'll be a Trine/Salisbury best of 3 for the title!

That opening game loss vs. Moravian put a fire under Salisbury. The Gulls have proceeded to eliminate CNU, Rowan, and Berry to get to the Championship Series.

Ditto for Trine's loss to Rowan, since then the Thunder has eliminated Linfield and Moravian, and has Coe on the ropes after beating the Kohawks yesterday.

Multi-Regional Topics / Re: Conference changes

Does the CSAC/UEC conference merger have an AQ?

I don't believe it's even official yet, but they'll retain an AQ when it happens.

So are members from one conference just joining members of the other conference? How are they able to keep their AQ? I remember when the IIAC combined with the LMC, they had to wait for their AQ.

Wasn't that the IBFC combining with the LMC?

Curious to know if teams are staying in Marshall or drawing into Longview for hotels and food.  Marshall does not have much to offer.

Do they have any choice, or do they have to go wherever the NCAA assigns them?

Interesting results so far ...
#7 Coe pulls the upset of the day with a 3-0 upset over #2 Linfield
#8 Moravian says hold my beer, winning 4-1 over top-seeded Salisbury
#5 Berry continues the theme with a 3-0 victory over #4 CNU
#3 Trine plays #6 Rowan later this evening

And Rowan made it 4-4 for underdogs with an 11-4 thrashing of Trine.  Today's games:

#1 Salisbury vs #4 CNU, loser eliminated
#8 Moravian vs #5 Berry, winner to semis on Sunday, loser to elimination against above winner on Saturday (two games if necessary)

#2 Linfield vs #3 Trine, loser eliminated
#7 Coe vs. #6 Rowan, winner to semis on Sunday, loser to elimination against above winner on Saturday (two games if necessary)

Salisbury over CNU -Captains eliminated
Trine 3, Linfield 2  8 innings -Linfield eliminated
Berry 8, Moravian 1
Coe 2, Rowan 1 (H Ausenhus the win, E Thurow the save)

Berry and Coe are in semi-finals.

If someone would have told me Salisbury/CNU and Trine/Linfield would be elimination games this early, I wouldn't have believed them.

I knew Rowan had a good offense, but I didn't expect the Profs to come out THAT strong vs. Trine.

That CNU/Berry pitching matchup (Alger vs. Gore), well, something had to give on that one either way.

Coe's Ellie Thurow pitched superbly in the Kohawk opener. Coe's offense will be put to the test against Rowan (particularly if Lutz starts for the Profs).

Let's see if things get any crazier today.

General football / Re: Best D3 Marching ?

I'm surprised Fannosaurous Rex hasn't responded on this thread yet. (While WLC's band numbers aren't large enough for a marching band yet, they do have a drum-line, which I heard during the Warriors' last FB home game vs. Concordia-Chicago.)

Top 25-How they fared 5/23-29/23:

  1. Salisbury (2-0): Both wins over Lebanon Valley

  4. Linfield (2-0):  Both wins over #11 Bethel-MN
  5. Trine (2-0):  Both wins over #14 Concordia-WI
  9. Randolph-Macon (1-2):  All results vs. #20 Rowan
10. CNU (2-1):  All results vs. #13 VA Wesleyan
11. Bethel-MN (0-2):  Both losses to #4 Linfield
13. VA Wesleyan (1-2):  All results vs. #10 CNU
14. Concordia-WI (0-2): Both losses to #5 Trine
16. MIT (1-2):  All results vs Moravian
20. Rowan (2-1):  All results vs. #9 Randolph Macon

(All other ranked/ARV squads' seasons have concluded.)

On paper, Moravian is the most likely underdog going into this thing:  All of these teams have very strong pitching:  Trine appears to be on a mission-with getting 3 ECSU transfers who now get the chance they were longing for all season--Salisbury, Berry and Trine are the most likely on-paper favorites, given their year-long Top 25 Poll positions. I'll submit my choice a bit later.

FINAL:  Linfield 1, Bethel-MN 0 (An Ashley Sutton 5th inning RBI single holds up.) Linfield advances.

Randolph Macon making things interesting in the bottom of the 7th vs. Rowan. Profs still up 5-3.
Update: It's a final, Rowan 5, Randolph Macon 3. (A late Randolph Macon rally falls short as Rylee Lutz comes in in relief with 1 out, gives up a single, and then gets Gracie Ellis to line into a game-ending double play. Now we know all 8 College World Series squads.

Are you sitting down II?

Good.

FINAL:  Moravian 8, MIT 0  5 innings  (Something between games must have lit a fire under the Roadrunners-they came out of the gate scoring 5 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back.)  Unless I'm missing something, this is the first College World Series berth for Moravian since they got in the same year East Texas Baptist (Lya Swaner & Co.) took the D3 Title--

Moravian Greyhounds

Roadrunners = Ramapo

I stand corrected.

FINAL:  Coe 2, Hiram 1 (Terriers mount a threat in their last at bat, but with the bases loaded and 2 out, Hannah Ausenhus gets Larissa Baez to ground out to 3rd base to clinch this Super Regional for the hosts.) Madi Parson's bases loaded walk proved to be the difference here.

MIT Game 3 update:  Moravian 5, MIT 0 Top of 3rd (an upset if that score holds up--)

Linfield/Bethel-MN Game 2 match-up:
Same pitchers as Game 1 (Linfield's Kelley vs. Bethel's Simacek)

14
Berry 1, Bellhaven 0 going into bottom of 9th (Vikings got an RBI double from Lauren Cothern.
Update: 1-0 it's now a final- 9 innings--with 2 runners on and 2 out, Vikings' Holloway induces a pop-up out from Belhaven's McNeer to end this one. Berry advances!

Game 3 pitching matchup:
MIT Becca O'Connor (12-1, 2.55 ERA) vs. Moravian (right back to Madi Cunningham)

Game 3 pitching matchup:
Randolph-Macon (right back to Baughan) vs. Rowan (Emily McCutcheon 11-1, 1.78)

15
First team to advance?  Salisbury, who knocked off Lebanon Valley 4-0 (Lindsey Windsor 2-run HR and N Paoli 2 run single did the job here. Windsor also hurled  a 5-hit shutout).

Final:  Randolph-Macon 3, Rowan 0 (Baughan tosses a 4-hit complete game shutout to force a Game 3.

Berry/Belhaven going to extra innings--

Trine 5, Concordia 2 Top of 7th

Coe 1, Hiram 0 Top of 5th

FINAL:  CNU 6, VA Wesleyan 4 (Captains advance! A Katie Currin PH 3-run 6th inning HR was the key hit here).

FINAL:  Trine 7, Concordia-WI 2 (Some late insurance runs gave the Thunder all the distance that squad needed to move on--)
