Day one:

Pool C went 5-10.

The record reflects why a Pool C team is a Pool C. A second chance at the Pool A/B teams. BUT there always a few Pool C teams that rise up and get to Appleton along with Pool B's in past years. We will see who will emerge from Pool C and get to Appleton.
Pool C in baseball does not do as well as Pool C in basketball.

The first round results in Pool C basketball is closer to .500.

IMHO, the "minor" conferences in baseball have relatively stronger baseball programs at the top than their counterparts in basketball.

Look who performed well on the first day, but is not usually thought to have a power conference by the "conventional wisdom"... PSU-Behrend (AMCC), Keystone (CSAC), Farmingdale State (Skyline), Webster (SLIAC).

Look who did not do well in Pool C on the first day.

CCIW 0-2 (Carthage and North Central.  Pool A IWU beat Pool A Buena Vista (IIAC) 2-1 in a great game.)
SUNYAC 1-1 (Pool  A Brockport State and Pool C Oneonta State lost. Cortland State as a Pool C won.)
Capital 0-2 (Pool C York PA lost to CAC Pool A Mary Washington, but Pool C Salisbury lost to Pool B LaGrange.)

Fair enough, Ralph.  In the last two years the Lutes have had their fate in their own hands.

Yes despite 2 consecutive great 30 win season they stay home because they did not win games in the end to get them in the playoffs last year to George Fox and this year to Linfield. Great team, great program, great coaches sometimes come up short

Agreed...They had control of their destiny and three cracks to put Linfield away and they couldn't close the deal.  They have no room to argue about getting left out.  If Linfield would have lost 2 out of 3 then I would have full expected Linfield to be left out again.

Best advice....win the auto bid to leave no doubt.
IMHO, "NWC Co-Champion" PLU gets a Pool C bid if they had only one of that 3 game series as I have discussed earlier.

55 bids for 2011

By the way, we also learned the seven-team bracket is here to stay for at least one more year. Division III baseball isn't eligible for a 56th playoff team until 2012.
