I see now that both teams are making wholesale substitutions/pinch hitters.  Good sportsmanship by coaches giving guys a taste of the WS in a game that is pretty-much over.

Yes you are correct.

Same, I'm sure, with Roche (a senior) relieving Pankau, rather than the much superior, and well-rested, Joe Sweeney (a sophomore).  I don't think Sweeney has pitched at all this series - sure hope he gets his WS time before graduation!

What a remarkable run by IWU to claim the National Championship. Great job by the Titans. As the announcer on the video feed stated. They will "Remember the Titans" in Appleton. Celebrate Mr. Yipsi, your guys earned it.

Well, Sweeney got his time afterall - and got shelled in the ninth!  Fortunately, a two-run shelling didn't hurt much.

I have my doubts that the Titans were THE best team in the country, but they were for 5 days in May and June - I can live with that!!

Congrats to IWU....never thought they'd be here after their rough start, but it's how you play at the end of the year that matters.  They had the talent all along, and a 17-4 finish over their last 21 games, including a conference, regional, and National Championship isn't too shabby

Have we ever had a national champion with 20+ losses?  I would think not.

1976 Cal State Stanislaus  33-20-2  was the last team with 20 losses to win the National Championship.

BUT it dont matter. Win the right games at the right time.....All other stats dont matter if your dog piling and taking the Walnut and Bronze home. The best ERA, Most Wins, Highest Batting Average, Best winning percentage dont get you the Championship

Illinois Wesleyan took on all comers and beat the teams they had to beat...Be the best on the last day and it dont matter who was best on Day 1 to the day before the last day.
