W&L lost 2 games in September, granted they weren't the best opponents, but they were 2 of the first 3 weeks of the season and then rolled through their schedule including 2 ranked opponents.

Corrected -- 1 nationally ranked (H-S) and 1 regionally ranked though receiving national votes (R-M).

National rankings on d3football.com or in the AFCA poll are not a selection or seeding criteria.    If they were, UW-Whitewater would be the #1 overall seed, not Wesley.  The regional rankings are the only rankings that matter based on the NCAA criteria.

While as an ODAC guy I was pleased to see HSyd get an at-large bid, I am baffled how-just in terms of common sense-W/L got seeded below the Hamsters.  I can imagine the Generals strength of schedule was somewhat low, but balance that against starting 1-2 and finishng with seven straight wins.  You would think the hot hand would get a better deal...especially over a team they beat hea to head.

Unlike the NCAA DI basketball turnaments, there is no trend criteria for figuring the seedings.  Whether W&L's 2 losses came at the beginning of the season or the end of the season does not matter.  The moral of the story is that if you want to play a home game, win the games that you should win.  Speaking as another ODAC guy, I am glad that the conference got two teams in this year, but there is no way that any two loss team should host a game, particularly a team with two losses and W&L's SOS.

i know i am getting ahead of this week, but i can not wait until next weekends homecoming game between bridgewater and hampden sydney.  making the trip to hang out with my stagg bowl family, stone station.  looking forward to some great grubb, pulled pork i hope from skoaltrain, chicken, and fried turkey, etc.  party on, i will bring some good micro brew beer to add to the festivities, see you in a week.

You will be welcomed with open arms!

We laughed yesterday as Skoaltrain & myself opened the Salem parkinglot at 2:30pm for our 7:30pm game. There was no 20 inches of snow, no Mt. Union or UWW rowdies, actually it was just us. Then about 30 minutes later a local pulled up and asked if there was going to be a party tonight. Our reply, "there already is one, Stone Station is in the house!" Two hours later after his buddie got off work they showed up with fire water and cigars. Gotta love the local Salem crowd.
Later, as we walked out after the game I mentioned how I couldn't wait to get back there in a few short months. Good Times.

We will be arriving at the usual location @ 4pm on Friday. Looking forward to a great tailgating weekend. Not so sure about the game but that is why it is not played on paper, "any given Saturday" you know!

Well said LlamaGuy. It was quite the site.  Shorts and a bit of a breeze while we set up shop yesterday.  Not many people but the ones that did make it seemed to have a good time plus I got to wear my Bridgewater Football Jersey without the other teams asking me who I represented.

As for Homecoming, we'll be on site as LlamaGuy said around 4 p.m.  From the feedback I've gotten, there will be quite the crowd for this weekend.  Can't wait to catch up with you WesleyDad.  It's been far too long.  Catch you in a week!

Go BC!!!!!!!!!  Snakehandler? Where are you? Please tell me you're coming?  Missing that Ham Pot Pie.  My Dad is looking forward to it.

I should have known better than to sign up for a class that meets that weekend.  I'll be with ya'll in spirit.  Go BC.

It seemed like a sloppy day all around down in Danville.  Bridgewater turned the ball over several times on the center-quarterback exchange.  The defensive preformance was encouraging with the interception return for a touchdown.  It was a decent first win for the young Eagles.

Go BC

Actually the weather in Danville was great at game time. The field was dry (it had been covered) rain stopped at arond 10:30 am and by 2 pm kickoff it was hot as sin. Congrats to the eagles they have one heck of a tight end. He looks like he is 8 foot but really he is only 6' 4". Averett gave up close to a 100 yards in penatiles today. Most of that in the first half and by the defense. Every time it looked like they were going to stop BC, they would jump offsides, or do something else stupid. Averett's offense didn't show up today until the 4th quarter.

Looks like BC is going to be right in the mix this year. Good luck

kickerdad,

I was not able to make it to the game so I would have no idea about the weather.  From the radio broadcast I was able to gleam that the penalties and turnovers made for some sloppy football.  As it was the first game of the season for two young teams, I hope both BC and Averett are able to clean up the penalties and turnovers as the season continues.  Good luck to the Cougars. :)

Here's to a new season.  I hope to get back for several games this year but it is my first as a post graduate.  Hopefully we can see a competative and exciting ODAC season.

Go Bridgewater!

Hopkins, along with several other schools like Colerodo College Ice Hockey, played DI in a single sport before that rule was changed.  The rule change allowed existing programs in "minor" (not football or basketball) sports to play a single sport at the DI level while playing other sports at a different level.  The rule stipulates that a school must opperate their football program at the DI FCS level at least in order to participate in DI basketball if the school chooses to sponsor football.

What's it going to take to prevent future ODAC teams from getting walloped in the first round of the playoffs?  This is the second straight year the ODAC standard-bearer has been ousted immediately.  I mean no disrespect to the Tigers; the accounts of the game on this board indicate the it was closer than the score illustrates. 8)

I know we've covered this before in prior posts, but the timing is right to revisit the topic, especially since it's a year later, and hopefully we're all a little bit wiser! ;)
It sounds a lot like we (the ODAC) get pushed around on the Offensive and Defensive lines due to a difference in size.   You were at the Stagg Bowl last year, jacketlawyer, as was I, and I also saw some marked differences in team speed and depth.

One thing that might help prevent that from happening is for the whole conference to play tougher nonconference opponetts.  In the years that Bridgewater was going deep in the playoffs, they played at least one game against a playoff team in their nonconference slate.  This will help the teams understande just what they are up against at the next level.  Playing these games also helps coaches to see just what a difference getting players that are bigger, stronger and faster can make.

First off, congrats to NCW on the win AT W&J today.

It was, however, far from a punch in the mouth.  But the team that executed more often won today.

Best wishes to the Bishops!

When a number eight seed beats a number one seed on the road, Bob, it is a punch in the mouth.  As a #1 you are expected to beat the #8 by a sizable number, so any loss by a #1 to a #8 is a big deal.  How do you like your crow served?

Let me preface what I'm about to say by declaring that Bridgewater certainly deserved to win this afternoon.  Emory should've stopped Carter from scampering to the 13 and putting the Eagles in FG range that late in the game when it was tied.

That being said, the officiating today sucked.  There is no other way to put it.  There were some horrible calls on both sides, and I'll admit I'm inclined to notice the ones that hurt EHC more.  The first TD scored by Bridgewater was phantom.  The ball clearly hit the turf before #87 caught it.  There was also a no-call facemasking on the reverse Emory ran.  Finally, the biggest bone I have to pick is with Emory essentially scoring two TDs after the forced fumble on the punt at the three.  I don't understand how two zebras call a TD and one (who wasn't in position to make the call) calls it off.  The sad thing was Emory crossed the plane again on fourth down and still didn't get the call to go their way.

I will say there were some holds not called that should've helped Bridgewater and there were some other penalties called that shouldn't have been that hurt BW.  This isn't a diatribe about why we lost, rather it is about the horrible officiating that seems to plague the ODAC year-in and year-out.  Bridewater stepped up and made plays when they had to to win the game.  I just hope Commissioner Bankston saw that our officiating crews need some more training- or at the very least some eye-exams.  Congrats Eagles.  Let's see if you can win the ODAC now.

As a fan of the winning team, I find myself agreeing with EHC52 that the officals left a lot to be desired today.  I wonder particularly about several holds that were not called on EHC during their first scoring drive.  I would say that in both close games that I have seen Bridgewater play this year (HSC and EHC) the officiating has been very poor.  I too join EHC52 in calling on the league to do something about this ongoing problem in the ODAC.

HEEEEEELLLPPPP!

Snake....I said my gut...not my goat!! Either yo eyesight or yo spellin ain't tu gud!!  ;)

He posted that picture, because Friday night, we were actually witness to a goat being tied up to a truck on the other side of a house where Stone Station was. We heard it crying all night.

Saturday morning it looked like this...

We learned that a couple students purchased the goat and then butchered it that morning.

Mmmmm, delicious.

Someone should ask Religion Major if those students were studying the Old Testament :D

Knowing them they probably were.  Their kitchen still smells like blood four days later.

True, and CMU's schedule only slightly helps the OOWP.  At least as I understand that computation.

And wouldn't an undefeated team be refused a B bid if it comes down to more than three teams with in-region undefeated records?  But I figure that if that happened they would fare well in Pool C where it is unlikely any teams would have undefeatead in-region records (The exception being undefeated conf co-champs).

I think in that case the overall undefeated team would get the nod on secondary criteria (total d3 record) unless their OWP and OOWP were significantly worse than the team with a loss out of region.

Anybody know where religion_major is these days?  I met him at a debate last year.  Nice guy.

I had about two weeks worth of class that made me think I was in law school.  Then as kid said, a bit of prayer up in the mountains.  And snake, for the record, Santa comes bringing Crab soup for homecoming.

Why is Shenandoah wanting to join the ODAC rather than the CAC?  The article doesn't address that question, but it's worth noting that the distance to CAC colleges would be less for Shenandoah than the distance to ODAC colleges.

One of the reasons that SU cited in the artical for joining the ODAC was that it would provide a conference for all of their varsity sports.  I don't know if the CAC sponsors all of the sports that SU is trying to find a conference for.  For instance, CAC does not sponcor football.  Catholic, a CAC team is an ODAC affiliate in that sport.

It looks like the ODAC may have another member very soon. As I wrote in the USAC side....
The clock maybe ticking down for the Hornets being in the USAC. President Davis in today's SU school paper wrote in his column that at the next ODAC meeting of school presidents he will make a formal request to join the conference. Many here have thought this would happen. It has been no secret that SU has always wanted to get in the ODAC from day one of the football program. Chances are this will happen. Its just when is the only question.

Geographically, the ODAC makes more sense for SU in terms of athletic travel.  It would be a good move for them.
