Again, though, were there really only 285 people on hand to watch this game? That tells me that the Maroons faithful must be abandoning the ship already, and that Wheaton is continuing its long-standing tradition of not traveling well.

yeah, wheaton didn't travel well... there were maybe 10 or so students. and u chicago is only 45ish minutes away! a couple alumni and parents were there too... but other than that, not a whole lot of wheaton support.

but yes it does seem that chicago fans are abandoning ship because there really were very few fans. by my estimation, i'd be surprised if there were more than 100-150 chicago students there. and not very vocal at that. it could have been a neutral-site game for all intents and purposes

Does anyone know if Wheaton is done recruiting?

On that same note...
I'm not entirely familiar with what schools are in what regions....

How many in-region games would Wheaton have from its non-conference schedule?

Ohio Wesleyan, UW Eau Claire, Coll. of Staten Island (playing 2 of these 3, at Lee Pfund Classic)

Loras, U Chicago, Webster, Grinnell, Wartburg (I'm assuming these are in-region)

2 games at a Wittenberg tournament (is Wittenberg in-region?)

And Hope and Calvin (out of region, I guess)

I crossed out the non-region teams.

I'm confused.... Hope is in-region but Calvin is not? that hardly seems reasonable... they're both MIAA teams....

This may be extremely premature, but is it possible for Wheaton to go all the way next year (win the CCIW and the NCAA's)?
Since Raymond is returning, their starting lineup is back, all they lost was a single bench player, and Wheaton has what seems to be a good recruiting class (Pflederer and others)...
I guess everything is possible, especially with Raymond, but how good of a chance does Wheaton have?

Any ideas on what Raymond's chances are of getting player of the year?
It seems likely he'll be a first-team All-American...
Not making the Final Four probably doesn't help, but dropping 47 to get to the Elite Eight should...
Any thoughts?

Some observations on the Wheaton-Hope game yesterday...
I was there, together with about 40ish other Wheaton students and maybe 200 some Wheaton alum... not a lot for only being three hours away from Wheaton... although most students weren't back from spring break yet...
It's a nice gym, it was nice to see 3000+ fans in orange and blue, unfortunately most of them were not Wheaton fans... haha

1) It's incredible how well Hope shot the three... not to beat a dead horse or anything, but they couldn't miss in the second half... heavily contested threes, long range threes, anything... It was hard for Wheaton to get any kind of run when every two was answered by a three... Hope never went on a huge run, their biggest run was 6-0 or something like that, I believe, but they built their lead trading twos for threes...

2) Hope's players were all pretty tall and long and that frustrated Wheaton's guards' shooting...

3) I have never seen Panner miss so many open threes (especially in the first half, I think he was 0/5). He did make that half-time half court heave at the buzzer, unfortunately that momentum didn't really carry over for the rest of the second half, we played them even for a while, tied it up, and then the threes really started coming.

4) Is it just me, or did it seem like Coach Harris was using Raymond as a decoy for much of the game. Hope did a great job defending him, true, but it didn't seem like Raymond was looking for his shot much.

5) I feel that Wheaton should have driven more, Hope's interior defense didn't seem to be that great; whenever we did drive, there was usually a foul or a good shot available...

Oh well, unfortunately Wheaton wasn't able to pull it out, they started so well too (10-0 run), but it wasn't to be.. they had us believing that they could go all the way...
We should have a decent team next year though, with Panner/Jahns/Wiele/Carwell.

Titan Q, a question...you said on the Hope sectional board:
"There is one final secret to beating Wheaton - by far the most important key and something IWU executed perfectly in all 3 games - but since I want Wheaton to win the Sectional, I can't release that information."

Since Wheaton is done now, do you mind revealing this secret? I'm really curious...

I'm hoping Raymond has a better game today... Does Loras have any good perimeter defenders that would be capable of containing Raymond if he is on his game?
#9
Why doesn't Harris put Jahns in? He's a much better free throw shooter than some of the others on the floor...
#10
Panner fouls out..
but I doubt Lawrence has enough time, and Raymond is finally playing...
#11
raymond for three...six point lead...

crazy game... just when i thought wheaton was done...
wow....
now if only wheaton can play good defense for 5 minutes...

I don't know what to think about tonight.  It really could go either way depending on who shows up to play.  I wish I could say I think LU will win, but they could easily come out and lay an egg, get down early and have a tough time coming back.  I also could see them get hot early, shut down Raymond and lead by 15 at the half.  I'm hoping for an LU win, but I sure as hell won't guarantee it.

Weren't they down 15 to Carroll at half?  With Kroeger and Dekker capable of launching 3s and their defense always working hard, don't "turn off the radio" if they are down big early!  Plus, two years ago (?) at Lawrence, Point was up double digits midway through the second half and LU stormed back and should've won, but their lay up came off the rim at the end.

I think  the key parts of that post were At Lawrence.  For some reason this team can come back from some major defecits at Alex that they in my opnion haven't been able to do on the road.  Hopefully they can get  the bounce and the sightlines of Whitewater's gym down quick, but they won't have the feel for it like they do at home, which when coming back from being down big makes a big difference.

I think the crowd will play a big role too.  I hope lots of LU fans are heading down since it's not too far a drive, but I'm sure there will be plenty of Wheaton fans as well.  I think LU pulls it out in a close game, or at least I hope thats what happens.

I don't know about there being a lot of Wheaton fans. Spring break started today for them... so I doubt there will be more than a few... unfortunately.

Does anyone know if there will be video available for the Wheaton-LU game?
