All the NBN guys picked Hamilton- I don't see it that way.
I would not pick Bowdoin until the new coach and this year's team shows me something. Granted, I have a fondness for Murray, and think he's a terrific coach that just hasn't been able to get to the next nescac level. Last year may have been a 5+ win season and turning of the corner, then arguably the best defensive player in the nescac was lost to injury. I do think the pressure is on MJurray to deliver a winning season, and Im hoping he will. That said, I think Hamilton will have an easy time with Bowdoin tomorrow.

ColbyFootball

I am obviously biased rooting for Colby, and I really admire and respect the Wesleyan coaches and program. My head is yelling at me that Wes will beat Colby. But my gut is screaming that Cosgrove is the real deal and will have the Mules ready to win a big away opener. Man, I love college football.

NESCACMAN 2019 Preseason NESCAC Weekly Power Rankings

Welcome to the 2019 NESCAC season in the league where they "pay to play"!!! Should be an exciting year with a(nother) new head coach in Maine (does Bowdoin only hire coaches with beards?"), new starting QBs at Wes and Tufts, a new league schedule, new players and lots of new posters on "the Board"...should be fun. One big change this year in NESCAC...looks like the league is back to "the have's" and "the have not's" (C-B-B plus Hamilton). For those of you new to the Board, here's what to expect each week expect from NESCACMAN....weekly power rankings generally on Monday or Tuesday every week and our popular weekly picks game by game picks on Friday (the most accurate NESCAC picks in the country) and we will also throw in a few special features during the year to keep everyone wildly entertained. Here we go....

1. Hartford State (Final 2018 record: 8-1; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 8-1): HS will again contend for the league title in 2019. Give them credit...they reload every year. Big shoes to fill at RB. They will not be the first NESCAC team to go 9-0 in football. Lowest academically ranked NESCAC football that plays football (aka "safety school")....maybe they can convince Conn College to play football?

2. Amhurst (Final 2018 record: 8-1; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 7-2): Need to replace 2x NESCAC Defensive POTY Andrew Yamin. Steady but not flashy performers on offense. Wurst mascot in the league, hands down. Can they score enough to win? They won't need to score a ton, however. Tough end of the season schedule.

3 (tie). Wesleyan (Final 2018 record: 5-4; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 6-3): Wes will start a new QB for the first time in 4 years as all-league QB Piccirillo graduates. They have the defensive POTY candidate DT Gooden. Favorable early part of the schedule should help break in the new QB.

3 (tie). The Team from Up North ("TTUN")(aka Williams)(Final 2018 record: 5-4; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 6-3): Step back in 2018 as injuries hit TTUN hard. Coach Raymond is getting this program back to respectability after the years of damage done to the program by former HCOF Kelton. We think this Team is at least a year away from being able to consistently compete with the upper echelon of the 'CAC. QB Maimoron is top notch. Heart of the team are juniors.

3 (tie). Tufts (Final 2018 record: 7-2; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 6-3): We think the OG Elephants will take a step back with a new QB taking the spot of QB Ryan McDonald.

6. Middlebury (Final 2018 record: 5-4; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 5-4): Although the offense is much more balanced, they have too many holes to fill in a secondary that frankly did not get it done in 2018.

7. Colby (Final 2018 record: 3-6; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 3-6): The rebuild of the program continues with HCOF Cosgrove. Seems like they have solved the QB problem but they lost RB Jake Schwern. Colby is our pick to win the 2019 version of the annual pillow fight also known as the C-B-B.

8 . Hamilton (Final 2018 record: 3-6; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 2-7): QB Kenny Gray can play and but losing WR Joe Schmidt is a problem. They are going to have to establish a semblance of a running attack for the offense to be at all effective. The running game needs to get better in order for Hamilton to not look like a poor's man's version of old Middlebury.

9 (tie). University of Bates (Lewiston Campus)(Final 2018 record: 0-9; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 1-8): Bates and HCOF Malik Hall will win a game this year. We like QB Costa and his athleticism...not sure Costa is well suited for the "Air Raid".

9 (tie). Bowdoin (Final 2018 record: 1-8; projected NESCACMAN 2019 record: 1-8): Welcome to Maine, HCOF BJ Hammer....We liked HCOF Wells but we wonder if he second guessed his decision to leave Endicott for "greener" pastures...how long will it be before HCOF Hammer regrets coming to the school where coaches come to "fail"? We like RB Richam, if he can stay healthy...we do not like their QB situation at all.

2018 FINAL NESCACMAN Weekly Power Rankings

1. Hartford State (8-1; last week's rank:1) Season grade: A (had a loss).
2. Amhurst (8-1; LW:2): Season grade: A- (lost to HS).
3. Tufts (7-2; LW:3): Season grade: B+ (only loses to HS and Amhurst).
4. Wesleyan (5-4; LW:4): Season grade: C (talent was better than record).
5. Middlebury (5-4; LW:5): Season grade: C (MID with QB issues?).
6. That Team Up North (aka Williams)(5-4; LW:6): Season grade: B (finished season badly but better than HCOF Kelton era).
7. Colby (3-6; LW:7):  Season grade: C+ (good ending to season and C-B-B title).
8. Hamilton (3-6; LW:8): Season grade: C- (need to do better with that talent).
9. Bowdoin (1-8; LW:9): Season grade: D+ (did break losing streak but that's about it).
10. University of Bates (Lewiston Campus)(0-9; LW:10: Season grade: D (no wins).

When I was at Ivy camps my son did OK on his SATs (1300) and I had this feeling "what if his SATs are not good enough" (I went through this with my other son, with the "bands"). I started to panic a bit, his goal was Ivy/NESCAC. The panic subsided when I spoke to the Trinity coach at a Yale camp and I learned they didn't use SAT scores(you could, but not necessary). He managed to up his score to the point of not worrying and the target was a sub 20% acceptance rate....mission accomplished!

I bring this up and I know it's a sore spot for the Trinity fans, but 34% acceptance(and no SAT scores) vs 15% acceptance rate definitely has something to do with Trinity's dominance and the talent they attract

Right on!!!

Come on, folks, anything to talk about OTHER than Trinity's admissions?

Here's a guess at how I'd tier teams heading into the season:

1. Trinity
2. Amherst/Williams
3. Tufts/Colby/Wesleyan/Middlebury
4. Hamilton
5. Bates/Bowdoin

Nescac, we would move TTUN to the third tier, create a new tier for MID and put the Mules with HAM...otherwise, we concur..

Dude, Hamilton didn't lose Joe Schmidt. (Unless he missed the bus to Brunswick) He's a senior.

Apologies for the tardiness on this report but it appears the injury bug has already hit the Ephs before a snap has been played...no Rooney today on the line with a knee injury...no Burke or Morrison either for an already depleted receiving corps...
