As this is rolling out, I think that Centre needs to beat Trinity this week to stabilize their chances of a Pool C bid, if they don't win the SCAC tourney.

As pabegg has outlined, the first 10-13 Pool C bids go to strong teams that are runners-up in good conferences.

That leaves about 5-8 Pool C bids for strong teams that get upset by Cinderellas in their conference tourney.

Looking at their schedule, slim and none and slim's headed out the door.

What would have to happen for Trinity to get home court through the sectionals?  Is that even a possible scenario?

Ron Boerger

Not unless all the majority of teams are within driving distance of ol' TU.  The NCAA places more importance on cost reduction than giving the top seed home games.

Trinity can be the #1 seed in the entire tourney and only get a bye and a second round game out of the whole deal!  >:(

I think that there will be one pod down here.  Mississippi College is > 500 miles from Wash St Louis and Maryville MO, but is less than 500 miles to Oglethorpe and UTDallas.

As pabegg noted, Trinity UT-Dallas and McMurry can all connect by bus.

I anticipate 2 Pool A bids and maybe a Pool C bid.  There may be a Pool B bid at Chapman to go with the SCIAC Pool A Bid.  The NWC Pool A bid is also a travel orphan.

Ron Boerger

I should amend what I said earlier.  If the NCAA has to fly everyone (or the same number of teams) regardless of the host site location, the higher seed will indeed host.  That rarely happens here in the South Region, however, thanks to the 'pod' effect Ralph mentions.

TU is no risk to be the #1 overall seed in BB, but its men's soccer team has travelled as #1 overall seed thanks to this policy at least a couple of times over the years.

The NCAA's first regional rankings are out.

2. Texas-Dallas 17-2 15-2
3. Guilford 15-4 14-4

5. Randolph-Macon 14-5 12-2
6. DePauw 15-5 12-4

LeTU lost at ETBU in OT last night 87-74.

RMC beat Roanoke tonight 85-80.

Guilford won at Hampden-Sydney 62-56.

Ralph, how many more games do you think Trinity needs to win in order to safely say that they will have at least an at-large bid?  I was thinking 3 out of their last 4 games.

Walter, McMurry dropped from "C4" to "C19"  and from #19 to #45 overall with two losses to UMHB, no slouch of a team.

As I look at the Pool C bids, I think that Trinity can go 3-1 in the regular season and 2-1 in the tourney and still sneak into Pool C.  TU is currently #15 (down from #14 two weeks ago) in the rankings.
