Okay, it looks like it was a half of a rumor. Information on the HCAC Tornament from the Franklin website.

2008 HCAC Championship Tournament information update

FRANKLIN, Ind. (May 5) - The pairings are set for the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship baseball tournament to be hosted by College of Mount St. Joseph on May 8-10. At stake is the conference's automatic berth in the 2008 NCAA Division III playoffs.

On Thursday, May 8, the second-seeded Grizzlies will take on third-seeded Rose-Hulman at 6:30 p.m. at University of Cincinnati's Marge Schott Stadium. Franklin, which narrowly missed winning the highly-competitive HCAC regular season title race over the weekend, is back in the tourney for the first time since 2005. The Grizzlies finished 16-6 in the conference and own a 25-12 overall record. Rose-Hulman finished third in the league at 15-6 in the HCAC and is 28-11 overall.

Regular season champ and No. 1 seed Mount St. Joseph (16-5 HCAC, 24-15) will face No. 4 seed Transylvania (15-7 HCAC, 28-10) in the opening first round game at Schott Stadium on May 8 at 3 p.m. The Lions, who captured their first regular season title since 2003, are gunning for their third straight tournament championship.

On Friday, May 9, Game 3 will feature the Game 1 loser vs. the Game 2 loser at noon. Game 4 will pit the Game 1 winner vs. the Game 2 winner at 3 p.m. Game 5 will pair the Game 3 winner vs. the Game 4 loser at 6:30 p.m. All of Friday's games are at Schott Stadium.

On Saturday, May 10, the tournament moves to Midland Field in Amelia, Ohio. Game 6 will be between the Game 4 winner and the Game 5 winner at noon. Game 7, if necessary, will pit the Game 6 winner vs. the Game 6 loser, which would start at 3:30 p.m.

Stumbled across this AP story today about a former Bluffton player surviving another accident.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man who survived a 2007 bus crash that killed five of his Ohio college baseball teammates and two other people says he had flashbacks this week when he went through another serious accident with another team -- fellow cyclists he'll lead on a cross-country ride for charity.

Any other HCAC'ers out there?  As a recent Rose-Hulman grad, I'll be keeping track of the upcoming season and would love to discuss it with anyone doing the same!

Bluffton Dropped 2 to OWU this pass weekend. Gotta feel for the Bluffton pitcher, who balked in the winning run in the first game.

Bluffton ended up using quite a bit of pitching. Ryan Leugers lasted .2 of an inning because of back problems. He was replaced by Tyler Gibson who had a good outing before being replaced by Ben Roeschley.

Not a lot of posting on this board so hopefully this will get some conversation going.

Transy had a good start to the season beating two very good teams:

Birmingham Southern raked number 6 in D3 Baseballs top 25: 16-0
North park in "others receiving votes" in the same poll.: 5-1

I'm glad to see that there's hopefully going to be some regional realignment soon. It will be nice to have the HCAC in the same region in multiple sports. I've had problems remembering which region to look under to find Franklin. Baseball in Mid-East, mens and womens soccer as well as women's basketball in the Great Lakes, mens basketball in the Midwest, football in the North. At least we didn't have any teams in the South (like the Indianapolis Colts) ::)

I am just hoping that Defiance can put together a solid season this year.  Wasn't too pleased to see where they were picked in the HCAC preseason poll, but hopefully their play will change some minds.
