The SCAC will start their official conference play this weekend at Trinity University when they host the SCAC West/Central Divisional. Currently Colorado College, Austin College, Southwestern and Trinity are all ranked in the top 25. Should be a great weekend of volleyball.
Some 3-4 years ago, WLC played Colorado College in a non-conference meet-CC won;
Re this weekend's meet-should those ranked teams play each other early, something will have to give.
Noticed off Trinity-TX website that CC took Trinity to 4 before losing and Southwestern swept Austin--
Appears Colorado College (SCAC 7-1) is making an in-conference statement. Austin (7-2) has slipped a bit, Southwestern (8-0) is still on top in SCAC
Centre-Colorado College just underway in 2nd SCAC Divisional weekend action as I post:
Developing. . .
Final just in:
Colorado College over Centre (25-20, 25-10, 25-18)
Per CC stats: Ballard 10 kills, Perkins 8, 2 other Tigers 7 each; Goldsmith 16 digs.
#14 Colorado College vs. #15 Trinity-TX on deck:
Final just in:
Colorado College over Trinity-TX (25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23)
Per CC stats-- CC--Perkins 19 and Goldsmith 14 kills, respectively
Trinity-TX --Malloy & Hazelwood each had 9 kills
Final just in:
Colorado College over Millikin (27-25, 26-24, 25-19)
Per CC stats; CC-- Perkins 11 kills
Millikin-- England 15 kills
Looks like DePauw's loss in the third place match this weekend cost them a spot in the NCAAs. Besides Southwestern, Colorado College and Trinity got invites (http://bit.ly/1FaVLu) to the playoffs. If I read the bracket properly (http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/ncaa/sports/w-volley/auto_pdf/2009-WVB-D3Bracket.pdf), Southwestern will host a regional this weekend, with Emory the major competition. Emory gets a bye into the second round and will be matched up against the winner of RMC-Trinity CC also gets a bye in the regional hosted by Redlands.
Colorado College gets the Puget Sound/Cal Lutheran winner. LaVerne (19-13) put a lot of top-ranked opponents on its' schedule. Assuming Southwestern gets past U of Dallas-the Pirates could very well end up getting an (at this time) undefeated UT-Dallas squad. It's the pits when 2 highly-ranked teams meet that early in the tournament, but from what I've seen, the Eastern regions (NY, New England, relatively speaking here) didn't have that many teams that consistently stayed nationally ranked this season. (Just an observation, not a knock.)
I'm going to try and go to some of the games @ Southwestern. Just happy there were enough teams in the area to justify them getting to host instead of shipping everyone off to Emory as has happened too many times in the past.
2010 SCAC Pre-Season Volleyball Poll is now up:
http://www.scacsports.com/sports/wvball/2010-11/releases/2010_preseason_poll
Final just in: #16 ranked Southwestern-TX opens up 2010 by beating Mary Hardin-Baylor in 3.
Austin College/UT-Dallas just underway:
UT-Dallas wins in 5:
(25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 15-10)
UT-Dallas: Wetz--21 kills, 30 digs
Austin College: Fleming-- 23 kills
It's been nearly a year since anyone posted, so:
Trinity (TX) gets 2011 off to a 3-0 start:
3-1 @ Schreiner (25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-15)
at the Trinity Fall Classic:
3-2 vs. NAIA-I Loyola (LA) (32-34, 24-26, 28-26, 25-16, 16-14)
3-1 vs. #9 Wisconsin-Platteville (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 26-24)
Notable: there were over 2000 in attendance for the Platteville game in a show of support for TU senior Catherine Found, who lost both her sister and mother in the last few weeks.
That win over Platteville will be big if they don't stumble before the next poll. #2 Emory lost at #5 Wittenberg earlier, so depending on tomorrow's results in the Witt/Juniata/Emory meet and elsewhere, there could be quite a bit of motion in the next poll.

Wittenberg won all its' matches at its' own meet, Juniata and Emory both lost 1 match, and Puget Sound upset Whitworth out west- so there figures to be a lot of shifting when the next poll comes out.

Trinity won the other two matches (3-1 Hardin-Simmons [ASC West preseason favorite], 3-0 East Texas Baptist) so they should show up somewhere in the Top 25 this week. :)
Hendrix College at 5-1 so far in conference play is going to surprise some teams this season.
Today they beat Trinity 3-0 and Dallas 3-0. Freshman Kylee Spicer is coming on stronger as the season progresses and they have a great setter.
Trinity is losing its VB luster and even with two tough loses and then a win over Rust.....Hendrix is continuing to improve in leaps and bounds.....They have confidence and I think Saturday they will win 2 and possibly lose 1......but they could surprise you.
Trinity comes back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Southwestern for the SCAC championship, 17-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-11. Southwestern defeated #11 Colorado College 3-0 in the semis so we'll see if their strong performance this week results in a Pool C bid; at 26-11 they may be on the outside looking in. CC (33-4) will get a bid from the West Region.
Surprised to see Trinity get to host a regional this weekend. The SCAC got three teams in, Southwestern also got a bid on the strength of their performance last weekend. Five Texas teams got bids including HSU, UT-Dallas, Mary Hardin-Baylor from the ASC. Other teams coming along are Cal Lutheran (30-1!), Pomona-Pitzer (20-8), UC-Santa Cruz (20-6).
Colorado College is the #2 seed in the Emory regional.
Bracket here: http://i.turner.ncaa.com/dr/ncaa/ncaa7/release/sites/default/files/images/2013/11/11/diii-womens-volleyball-2013.pdf

Let's go Trinity!
A shame nobody participates on the VB boards any more ... we could talk about the regional at Southwestern this week which has 4 of the top 6 teams in the country, according to AVCA.

Yes, that one guy posted a lot. I guess he gave up.
I saw WLC is back to posting (in the ASC thread), welcome back WLC!
Happened to catch a note in the Colorado College season opener writeup (https://cctigers.com/news/2021/2/11/cc-set-to-open-scac-volleyball-schedule-at-schreiner.aspx) that their head coach, Rick Swan, will be stepping down after this season. He will be a very hard act to follow. The mountain Tigers are fortunate in that they get both Trinity and Southwestern, their primary SCAC competition, at home this season in back-to-back weeks.
Joining Texas Lutheran-St. Thomas (Houston) in progress (St. Thomas up 1 set to nil).
St. Thomas over TX Lutheran in 3 (and with that, St. Thomas gets the sweep on the day.)
Joining Schreiner/Colorado College early in first set:
Colorado College up 2 sets to none on Schreiner:
(Schreiner announcer indicated that last night the TX squad took Colorado College to a 5th set before losing--)
Colorado College over Schreiner in 3
(25-20, 25-20, 25-16):
CC's starting libero had to leave the match after getting a sprained ankle
AVCA #1 Trinity (TX) travels to #4 Colorado College for the latest battle in their never-ending struggles for supremacy in the SCAC, with matches both Friday (4PM MDT) and Saturday (10AM MDT). Video/stat links are here (https://cctigers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule/2020-2021).
CC & Trinity-TX are going to a 5th set:
Final: #4 CC takes the match
(25-23, 18-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-9).
CC: Rallied during serving runs by Aragon-Menzel in Sets 4 and 5.
ARV Austin vs. #1 Colorado College up shortly:
Final: #1 Colorado College over ARV Austin in 3 sets.
(25-17, 25-16, 25-9)
CC: .400 team hitting pct. for match
(Hewlin and Mullins .625 and .615 individual hitting pcts, respectively)
The SCAC yesterday announced brackets for the upcoming conference championship (https://www.scacsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/releases/bracket_announced). As was the case for basketball, the tournament will be held over three weekends with games hosted by the top seeds in each matchup, which means that the conference championship will almost certainly be held in Colorado Springs the weekend of Apr 30-May 2. Due to this change the championships have been expanded from the usual six teams to eight.
Per conference policy (reiterated yesterday) no fans will be allowed at any of the games.
#8 Dallas @ #1 Colorado
#5 St. Thomas @ #4 Austin
#6 TLU @ #3 Southwestern
#7 Schreiner @ #2 Trinity
TLU/Southwestern:
Generally, these 2 squads are about evenly matched in most team stats--Southwestern was 2nd in in-conference in-match avg digs/set (20.21) to TLU 5th (18.41). TLU was 2nd in in-conference avg blocks/game (1.86) Southwestern was 5th at (1.72). Southwestern had 76 service aces
TLU--Paige Day 10th in conference avg. svc aces/game (0.29/game)-- Weisinger 44 total blocks --avg blocks/game 1st (1.05) L Morris 3rd in conference in total digs (282).
Southwestern: Riley Brantley .295 hitting pct. 130 spikes for points Emma White 136 spikes for points.
Trinity-TX/Schreiner:
Schreiner--1st in total spikes for points (711) and total digs (1,244) Lofland 1st in spikes for points (209) Beyer 4th in spikes for points (148)
Trinity-TX 2nd in team hitting pct, (.255) (behind CC). 4 Trinity-TX players rank 2nd-5th in hitting pct. (.348 - .323) Leggett 1st in avg aces/set (0.77)
Schreiner took CC to 5 sets before losing earlier this season. Trinity-TX is expected to take this match.
Austin/St. Thomas-TX:
Austin: 5th in team service aces (72) Prazak 4th in digs (280) St. Thomas-TX: 1st in team digs (1,244)
CC/Dallas:
CC: 1st in team hitting pct (.269) Mullins 1st in ind. hitting pct. (.394) 2nd in avg blocks/set (1.04)
Dallas: D Whyte 5th in avg spike pts/set (2.93) Delgado 5th in avg digs/set (5.02)
The question is: Will anyone knock off either the top ranked team (CC) or the 2nd ranked team (Trinity-TX) prior to the tournament final?
Trinity-TX over Schreiner in 3 sets to advance:
TX-Lutheran-Southwestern midway thru Set 4, Bulldogs up 2 sets to 1
Developing. . .
Southwestern advances with a 5-set win:
(25-18, 21-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-10)
A net violation and several volleys that sailed wide cost the Bulldogs late in this match.
Austin College advances by knocking off St. Thomas-TX in 3 sets.
Colorado College/Dallas match scheduled for this evening.
Tomorrow's match between Trinity and Southwestern now shown as "cancelled" with Trinity advancing to next week's finals; nothing yet on either school's website or from the SCAC other than the cancellation, imagine one of the two schools is in COVID protocol (probably SW with Trinity advancing).
Final: Colorado College over Austin College in 3 sets:
(25-9, 25-11, 25-12).
CC: .425 team hitting pct. for match.
It'll be Trinity/TX vs. Colorado College for the Tournament Title.
AVCA preseason poll is out: https://www.avca.org/polls/diii-women/2021-season/4-21-2021.html
(1) Trinity (TX) (37) - 2052
(2) Colorado College (16) - 1969
(3) Calvin (2) - 1878
(4) Emory (10) - 1812
(5) Carthage (1) - 1767
Should be interesting. Trinity has almost everyone back - all their upperclassmen and sophomores return. All of them. Colorado on the other hand lost its entire senior class (five) but returns three starters, brought in a dozen first years, and a new coach, Sharon Dingman (https://cctigers.com/news/2021/7/28/colorado-college-names-championship-volleyball-coach-sharon-dingman-as-next-head-coach.aspx), who comes to CC from UChicago with 30 years experience at the D3 and D1 levels. UC was ranked #1 at one point in 2019 before falling in their regional final and finishing 28-4.
SCAC Fall 2021 Pre-Season WVB Poll is now up:
https://scacsports.com/sports/wvball/2021-22/releases/PreseasonPoll
Trinity gets through their opening tournament unscathed, though they were pushed to five sets Saturday against Whitworth. They head to Cal Lutheran this week where the level of competition will be much higher, facing #4 Emory (5-0) and #10 Claremont-Mudd Scripps (4-0) in addition to the hosts (RV, 1-2).
Looks like JHU is for real again this year (darn it) with a 3-0 win over #4 Colorado College, 25-21, -17, -19, hitting .339 in the process. That's the first loss in 12 matches for the Tigers, who had dropped a total of three sets in their first 11.
Also, BSC upset #7 Berry yesterday in 4 sets (The one set BSC lost was 25-9-may have been a Knute Rockne type speech going on before Set 4 of that one.)
SCAC Divisional play at Centenary (LA)
#3 Trinity TX (14-1) defeats Austin (11-2) 3-0 (25-20, -17, -19)
- Sara Flynn (TU) 13 kills and a .667 hitting %age, Mattie Fate (TU) career-high 7 blocks
Trinity (15-1) defeats Centenary (10-11) 3-0 (25-17, -19, -19)
- Flynn 15 kills, .545 hitting %age
- 1,000th career win for Trinity Coach Julie Jenkins

Wow! That's quite a milestone!
Trinity (TX) in the middle of a four match New England (!!) trip. Struggled to get past Endicott (now 10-7) before putting it away 15-9 in the fifth; defeated #22 Babson (now 14-2) on their home floor in four sets, breaking Babson's 45 game home winning streak (dating four years and a day). Tomorrow they start at #17 (and 17-0) MIT and end it at RV Tufts (10-4) who will play that other Trinity (CT) team earlier in the day.
Trinity knocks off formerly undefeated and #17 MIT easily in straight sets (25-12, -16, -22), but despite dominating Tufts in the first and fourth sets take an unexpected loss, losing in five 25-12, 21-25, 23-25, 25-17, 17-19. Have to think the stress of travel and playing four matches at three colleges in something like 30 hours could have been part of that. Back to SCAC action with another divisional in Georgetown TX where the final match against the homestanding Southwestern Pirates (16-1/6-1 SCAC) will present the most significant challenge of the weekend.
St. Thomas-TX comes back from 2 sets down to stun #5 Colorado College over the weekend. If that doesn't make the Celts' season, it'll come darn close.
SCAC tourney starts at Trinity(TX) today (one of the rare occasions where a SCAC tournament is actually held at the home of the regular-season champion as the SCAC rotates tournament hosting duties). Championship website (https://scacsports.prestosports.com/tournament/fall/volleyball/21championships/index) has details and video/live stat links.
Today:
- 4/TLU vs 5/Austin, 3:30pm CDT
- 3/#16 Southwestern vs 6/St. Thomas (TX), 6:00pm CDT
Tomorrow:
- 1/#2 Trinity vs 4/5 winner, noon CDT
- 2/#7 Colorado College vs 3/6 winner, 2:30 CDT
Sunday:
- Saturday winners for championship, noon CT
Trinity 3-0 over TLU in the first semi, though the first two sets were close with TLU leading most of the first. 25-21, 25-22, 25-11.
Southwestern is leading Colorado College who are badly out of sync, 25-10, 25-21.
Edit: not a thing of beauty but CC comes back after an early deficit to take the third set 25-19. Tigers going with a seven-person rotation, are up 7-2 in fourth. Southwestern hitting under .150 (and falling), Colorado up to .092.
Edit: CC takes fourth set 25-19.
Edit: SW takes fifth 15-11, closing out the match on a 4-0 run.
Many tough early matchups for Trinity in 2022: Berry, UW - Eau Claire, Johns Hopkins, Emory, and Juniata. These are all in the first two weeks of the season!
Go Tigers!
2022 SCAC Pre-Season WVB Poll is now up:

Besides #1 UW-EC, Trinity beat #6 Berry and #24 Transylvania this weekend ... and have yet to drop a set. Given their significant front-line losses to graduation last season you'd have to say the team's ahead of schedule.
The fun continues next weekend as Trinity heads to Atlanta to take on the previous three national champions (UWEC won last year): Johns Hopkins, Emory, and Juniata.
At the halfway point of the SCAC season, #2 Trinity (16-2) is 8-0 in SCAC play and had not lost a set in conference until Southwestern took one from them last weekend. Colorado College (13-6) has unexpectedly dropped three matches so far; the other surprise is Texas Lutheran (19-5), alone in second place with a 7-2 mark after defeating CC for the first time in school history last Friday. Southwestern (10-8) has recovered nicely from a difficult non-conference schedule and sits between TLU and CC at 6-2.
Trinity pulls off the upset of #1 Claremont-Mudd Scripps! 3-2 sets.
Go Tigers!
A bit of ironic turnabout from '21. CMS made that regional final at Wartburg, and came back from 2 sets down to knock off the Knights on their home floor in that one-to make the '21 Elite 8-how the tables can sometimes turn-
