PL-who over Rowan in '99 has to rank up there

Those .500 conference champs in March Madness are a ton of fun. But with the number of slots, everyone in the top 30 gets in as well. 4 at-large bids are not enough for D3 football.

That'll never happen, though, as it goes against the D3 access for all philosophy.

Could you just give me a min or two to believe it's possible?  ;)

I prefer something like the D2 earned access model (or a hybrid) to all the D3 auto bids. No offense to UM-Morris or Alfred St (and I acknowledge that D3 leadership has a different philosophy).

My idea would look something like this: expand Regional Rankings to ~9-10 teams per region. 'Pool A' conference winners must also be ranked in the top 9-10 regionally otherwise their conference's bid becomes an additional at-large for that year.

That could result in just enough additional at-large bids within the limits of 32 teams. Yes, you won your conference 6-4 Alfred St (congrats!) - but (IMO) Muhlenberg should be playing Mount, SJU instead of UMM (etc.)

That being said I have no doubt that the region 5 RAC knew exactly what they were doing when ranking Central 7th... I would think they understood that having Central ranked would give Coe a much better resume and would give them the upper hand in the selection process. If I was a St Johns fan I would certainly be upset but at the same time, everyone is playing by the same rules and the region 5 RAC didn't break any rules (though they may have bent them just a touch)...

Was there a more deserving team(s) for 6th/7th? Honest question, I'm not familiar enough with the region to know.

It would be hard to call shenanigans or say that the RAC bent rules if more deserving teams simply don't exist in the region.

d-train thought Ice Bear mostly wrote in third person. Did I miss a change? ;)

I used to post in the third person for a long time as it was a long held tradition on the LLPP. A fellow poster had enough of it and called me on it. Upon reflection, at my age, I felt it was time to come on here and post like an adult. I put old Ice Bear to rest lol. +k for the memory.

Gotcha. I found it entertaining (like George Constanza) - but all good.

I don't have any insight or inside information; I actually haven't seen any NWC games this year

What were the stats at half time D?

No idea, but 5 rushing yards and 5 turnovers were totals.  :-[

Probably some correlation with why I'm not here as much...

PLU is over matched.

Hey, double check those passing and penalty yards.  ;)

Unfortunately, there are only 4 at large bids nationwide. Agree with W11 that this is a playoff game.

I mostly post nonsense, so have stayed away. :)

:o

I have absolutely no idea what's going on. Here's the (short) article from Pete Martini at the Statesman Journal:

Quote
Isaac Parker is no longer head football coach at Willamette University, the school confirmed Friday. But they would not specify the nature of his departure.

"Tim Rude has replaced Isaac Parker as head football coach at Willamette as coach Parker is no longer employed by the University," said Colleen Kawahara, vice president for communications at Willamette. "At present, our focus is on ensuring continuity and support for our student-athletes to ensure the transition to coach Rude is as seamless as possible."

Parker, a Willamette graduate, was hired by the Bearcats in December 2018.

In his first season as head coach in 2019, Willamette went 2-8.

The 2020 season was canceled because of the pandemic, and the Bearcats went 1-9 in 2021, and 2-8 last season.

The Bearcats are 1-0 this season after beating La Verne 24-21 on Sept. 2.

Rude is also the recruiting coordinator, special teams coordinator, defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach.

After a rare win even. Clearly more to the story; just hope the program and players are supported.
