BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins senior women's soccer standout Jennifer Paulucci (Manalapan, NJ/Freehold Boro) has added yet another honor to her impressive resume as it was announced today that she has been awarded a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Paulucci is the first women's soccer player in school history to earn the award and the 36th overall Johns Hopkins athlete to be selected. She is also the first Johns Hopkins female athlete since 2002 to be selected and just the sixth overall female athlete at JHU to be honored.

The NCAA annually awards 174 Postgraduate Scholarships valued at $7,500 each. Selections are made in the fall, winter and spring and 58 athletes - 29 men and 29 women - from all divisions of the NCAA are honored each season. A total of 17 Division III athletes were selected in the 2010 fall sports category, including four from the Centennial Conference.

Paulucci's selection only further cements her place in Johns Hopkins athletic history. Already among the most decorated female athletes in school history, Paulucci was a two-time First Team NSCAA All-American, a two-time First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American, the 2010 d3soccer.com Defender of the Year and a four-time First Team All-Centennial Conference selection. She is just the fifth athlete in school history to twice earn First Team Academic All-America honors.

During a career that saw the Blue Jays compile a 70-14-7 (.807) record with four Centennial Conference Championships, four trips to the NCAA Tournament, two appearances in the NCAA Quarterfinals and one trip to the Sweet 16, Paulucci started all 89 games she played in and anchored a defense that posted 59 shutouts.

Perhaps the only thing that rivals Paulucci's athletic resume is her academic record. She currently boasts a 3.97 cumulative grade point average and will graduate in May with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. In addition to her two Academic All-America selections and three appearances on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, Paulucci has volunteered at a local elementary school and has been active with national service organizations such as Relay for Life, Kickin' it With College Kids and Lose the Shoes Grassroots Soccer. She also completed a rigorous summer internship in 2010 at the Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research in the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics Department.

Paulucci plans to spend one year working in community service or in a learning program conducting research at a hospital before enrolling in medical school.
