I'm not a huge fan of the new design either, but having seen the renderings of the field, I like the way that looks.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Looks like every single new logo that athletic departments are rolling out over the past few years.

I liked the previous version much better.

UT-Tyler looks to add football program

BY ANDY TAYLOR
Patriot Talon

Students could vote this fall to bring a football program to The University of Texas at Tyler as early as 2015 if they approve an increase to the Intercollegiate Athletic Fee.

Administrators said the fee increase also would allow UT Tyler to add a drill team and marching band, in addition to expanding the cheerleading and dance squads.

"I believe it is time now to look at this and respond to what students have asked for a number of years," Dr. Rodney Mabry, UT Tyler president, said. "My most common question has been ... 'When are we going to have football?' This (is) a good time to look at it in the right way."

[...]

The UT System wants UT Tyler to reach enrollment of 10,000 students by 2020, he said, and adding these programs would help reach that total. Without these additions, the University is projected to reach only about 8,000 students by 2020 at the current growth rate, he said.

Wow.

I did not see that one coming!

This is great news for the school. having football is always a great thing for a campus.

Still waiting to hear if UT-Dallas or Concordia will ever bring football as well.

Would love to see some new teams in the coming seasons!

With the talent and athleticism available in East Texas they could become a force, quickly!

I saw a tweet today saying Sul Ross was appointing a new interim FB coach .. they non-renewed Wayne Schroeder in January??

http://bigbendnow.com/2013/01/sully-coaching-changes-announced/

They are looking for a replacement who will also be AD:

http://bigbendnow.com/2013/02/search-for-new-sul-ross-football-coachathletic-director-underway/

The coach from Smithson Valley was a finalist but withdrew:

http://www.kens5.com/community/blogs/featured-blogs/Smithson-Valley-football-coach-Hill-finalist-for-job-at-Sul-Ross-State-191812471.html

According to that article the other finalist was Ronald Dolciato, head coach at John Carroll University.  WTF would convince someone to move from JCU to the armpit of Texas??  OK, he's only an associate HC according to this:  http://www.srlobos.com/news/2013/2/15/FB_0215131511.aspx?path=football and according to this (http://www.srlobos.com/news/2013/3/5/FB_0305135454.aspx?path=football) declined the position.

Per twitter assistant John Tyree has been named the Interim Head Football Coach today.

SRSU's schedule looks very tough. Especially with the four far road games to start the season.

Pretty cool that they will be playing one of those at Cowboys Stadium though.

Looking at the schedules, I'm noticing that Hardin-Simmons and LC are the only two ASC teams that haven't released their 2013 football schedules. Any ideas when they'll be out?

What was the reason for his resignation in January?

It was an amicable parting of the ways.

Coach Mumme and McMurry could not reach a satisfactory long-term contract.

An article in today's temple daily telegram about the basketball team calls the new stadium the Taj MaPete.  ;D ;D

Taj MaPete is pretty good, but I prefer: The CRUthedral - ain't no organ music played here, just the sound of the CRU hammering out another victory.

Toby,

You still around Abilene?  I'll be making another trip out this fall for the Linfield/HSU game on Sept. 14th.  I've already made two disappointing drives back to DFW and hoping this time goes a little better.
