It is no secret that the sleepy little college of Mount Union grew into a University during the same years that football became a dynasty.  The rise in attendance, fund raising, and overall support grew exponentially with the football success.   At the same time football was becoming a national power, academic programs and degree offerings were added, building projects expanded and the product resulted into what we have now, first class facilities for academics and athletics, first rate teachers, and first rate support programs. (I especially like food services...ha)

It is also no secret that LK had to fight for everything in the early years and made a few enemies in the process, but he won out and the college, overall, was the winner for his vision.

Of course this is one man's opinion, but I think you will find many agree.

I am not one of them. I agree with this.

Please respect all that have blazed this trail for the rest of the D3!  Whether AUG or WITT or any of the other pioneers.

But this is a selfish request.  Please, all of your best wishes for PurplePanda who is stuck at Johns Hopkins Medical Center this entire week learning how to feed herself through a IV port.

For those who questioned why I would not be at the Stagg this week, this is the reason.

Thanks!  Mom

Somethings are far more important than football. Got her in my thoughts and prayers Mom.

Congrats to the Cru. All of our past meetings have been incredible. Should be a great one. Looking forward to meeting many of you in Salem this year. Safe travels to all!

Did you see that :o :o :o...Wow! What a comeback!

No matter what happens in the last few minutes, I am really proud of the 2nd half effort by UMU

Inches from the goal line and a 215lb QB and we can't run a QB sneak?? And yes that call was pathetic.

Shark, yes really!  ;D

And possibly what is worse than getting beat by 98 is completely whiffing on a punt. Of course there could have been a strong wind that redirected the ball once it was dropped to kick.

My comment was not in reference to the St. John's score but to the outward rejoicing over JCU and others losing. I should have quoted your earlier comment to make that clear. Nevertheless, I am not sure why you felt it was necessary to gloat over JCU and UWW losses on this board.

Thought I'd never get to say it: "Safe Travel to the Purple Raiders!"

Could have said that most years when they headed to Salem  ;)

Good article by Reusse this morning. Much to think about.

Patrick should have had someone proof read it for him.  I'm not an English or Journalism major but I can see where there are words missing in the story.  He claims in the story that he did a read through looking for errors...oops.

"I don't the complainers have been St. John's fans. It's more the do-gooders, people who think if St. Thomas beats Carleton 80-3, it is Caruso's problem, not Carleton's."
.
What gets me was the speed. I knew it would be elevated from Mount, but it really wasn't close. And this was a UST defense that was considered very fast. They looked very pedestrian last night. And what does that say for the Confernce. I think it validates teams having to dabble outside the state for guys here and there because you can't match a team with Ohio as its primary recruiting grounds and Florida as its secondary market. I don't know that MN high school football can give you that. Not suggesting Meidt style recruiting, but Fasching and Caruso going after guys out of state that are the right fit here and there makes sense

Great point.  No doubt speed makes a huge difference. UMU and some other programs have been able to tap into Florida and other areas and secure some gifted and fast athletes to complement their normal recruiting bases.

Congrats UST on a great playoff run.

As for this Friday, I think UWW is the favorite until proven otherwise.  Their close games don't really affect my opinion because unlike Mount's offense UWW is not designed or intended to put up huge numbers.  It's designed to control the ball and win football games.  Wartburg having success against the UWW defense is the most positive thing I've seen.  It means that if Mount can protect Burke they can score some points.  But recent history has taught us that's a big if.  Hopefully the lines are up to the challenge this year.  It should be a great game.

Since John Carroll and Mount Union are from the same conference, will the refs be from the OAC or from another conference? I hope there not the same refs from the last meeting

The NCAA is trying to cut costs this postseason.  As a result, they've hired (at HALF the rate of the college refs) three guys who officiated in the Alliance Youth Football League to do this game.

Sorry to say that would still be a vast improvement over the crew who officiated the 1st game.

The Kehres guys respected John Carrol and got conservative in second half and let the clock run.

Does Larry Kehres have an active and defined role on this team??  I thought he retired to let VK call the shots?

From what I understand LK is helping with Quarterbacks. Don't know if he is the QB Coach or not but he is helping with QBs.

Geoff Dartt is Larry's son-in-law and Larry wants to help him be successful.  From what I heard Geoff is very open to suggestions from his father-in-law.

He should be  ;D

No need to speculate about Myers. Let it go.
