Is that a reference to Times Square or to the quality of their opponents' ball-handling? http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>, Pat.  Hey, I'm glad somebody (besides Molly) is reading this drivel!

Relatively speaking, CCNY provided a much sterner test this afternoon, falling to the Scots by just 35, 61-26.  I guess the basketball in New York is not as good as the shopping, or even the taxi driving for that matter!

Wittenberg moves to .500 by defeating Hanover 66-60; OWU drops Westminster (Pa.) 65-56, and Allegheny nips JCU 69-67.

Now, back to conference action!

Just back from an excellent college basketball game, but a heartbreaker for my Scots, losing 68-62 to Ohio Wesleyan.  This was pretty much a two- to four-point game throughout the second half, but Wooster just couldn't get over the hump.  OWU applied full-court pressure for most of the game, and it was effective, as the Scots turned the ball over repeatedly on mishandled or misaimed skip passes.  Wooster played the second half without Molly Rallo; it appeared that her knee tightened up after a hard fall in the first period.  Carly Loehrke didn't seem to be playing with any fire either; I think she ended up with six points and was not a major part of the offense.  I hope there is nothing wrong with Carly.  Considering that these two key performers contributed below their capabilities, the Scots did well to stay close the whole game.

A key sequence was in the last 15 seconds of the first half.  Down two, Wooster had the ball with a chance to tie going into the half.  But OWU stole the ball, picked up a foul, made one free throw and rebounded the second, and promptly nailed a three.  Just that fast a chance to tie became a six-point halftime deficit.  Still, the Scots managed to claw back into the game, briefly taking the lead midway through the second, but just couldn't get it done.

I want to single out two players for praise.  Alexis Louttit played very well in the relatively few minutes she saw.  She worked hard for position under the glass, and came away with six first-half points.  She also was active on defense and looked pretty good to me.  I was particularly impressed with sophomore Maria Gonzales, who provided a much-needed spark off the bench in both halves.  She plays with great fire, handles the ball well, passes crisply, has a nice soft jumper, and plays outstanding in-your-face defense.  She really impressed me tonight.

And I swear, it wasn't because Alexis and Maria went to my high school! http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

OWU, losers to Kenyon by 23 last night, moves to 3-1 in the conference, while Wooster drops to 3-2.

Elsewhere, Kenyon (5-0) prevailed in the showdown of conference leaders, defeating Denison (4-1) 49-44 at Gambier; Wittenberg (3-1) upended Allegheny (1-4) 66-55 in Meadville; and Hiram (1-3) got off the schneid, dropping visiting Earlham (0-5) 51-39.  Oberlin (1-4 after losing to Wooster 91-81 on Weds.) had a non-conference game I'm too lazy to check up on.

The Kenyon Ladies are doing awesome this year and I am so proud of them after the tough year they had last year with only 8 healthy players! I think they have real potential to do some great things this year...Keep it up Ladies and beat Witt tomorrow!

Pat Coleman

It's a good thing the department didn't pull the plug on the undersized roster the way Macalester did.

KenyonLadyPride

Looks like I jinxed my Ladies with my posting.  Oops!  Witt took it to 'em it looks like.  The Ladies will bounce back though, I am sure.

KenyonLadyPride

Way to go Ladies!  Big win against Witt!

I'm bored, so I'm going to post and see how long it lasts on this board.   A miracle in the making, Scots pull off the upset over the Ladies 68-61 in Timken.  A large difference in the stats, though, considering Scots shot 28 foul shots to Kenyon's 11.  Carly Loerhke converted all 12 of her free throws and led the way with 20, while Beth Besancon chipped in with 15.  Dana Halicki led the Ladies with 20.  Next up is Witt, who beat down the Scots 79-43 in Timken earlier this year.

How bout the Gators though?  Bouncing back from an 0-3 start in the NCAC to tie for second at 9-4.  Very typical though, as they tend to start slow and finish strong.  Sets up an interesting match up with Kenyon this weekend.

Just back from Wooster's home finale, won by Denison.  I'm sorry that I haven't been able to keep up the way I did early in the season; RL hit just a little and forced me to drop one of the balls I was juggling and this one was it.  I did continue to enjoy Fighting Scot basketball in silence, however.  Tonight was an emotional game as the team said goodbye to seniors Alexis Loutit, Sara Perry, and Molly Rallo.  All three started, even Rallo whose knee injury has kept her sidelined of late.  It game me a chance to give her a standing ovation when she was pulled at the first whistle.  Thanks for an enjoyable season of hoops, ladies, and good luck in the NCAC tournament!

Here are my picks for All-NCAC:

First Team:
Carly Loehrke, Woo
Katy Zeanah,Ken
Emma Woodward, Den
Kelly Heil, OWU
Kristen Sheffield, Den
Kathy Hittle, Witt

Second Team
Christina Briboneria, OBE
Nicole Burford, OBE
Erica Brizendine, OWU
Courtney Steding, ALL
Meredith McDonough, ALL

HM
Lisa Vanderkolk, EAR
Cassie Bedard, HIR
Beth Besancon, WOO
Dana Halicki, Ken
Emilie Schmid, WIT

I think Heil takes POTY based on her performance this season in becoming the NCAC's all-time leading scorer.  The problem with this list is the parody between all the teams in the conference.  Briboneria is leading the league in scoring, but I think she's a second-teamer because of where Oberlin finished.  Kenyon, All, and Witt are so balanced it's hard to give them first team selections, but I think it works out with each team having two reps besides Earlham and Hiram.

It is time to find out who is in... and who is out.
Whose bubble has been burst and who is wearing Cinderella's glass slippers.
It's Selection Sunday... and tonight there will be a special "http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville">Hoopsville" as the 2005 NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Brackets are announced... LIVE on our air!
The Road to Salem and Virginia Beach officially starts tonight!

It plans to be a huge night... as 50 womens and 48 mens teams are officially invited to the dance and a chance at a national title.

Some teams already know they are going (thanks to winning their conferences) and some think they are going, but there are always surprises.

So tonight, we will break it all down. Starting at 8:30 PM EST, we will take a look at who is definitely in, who might make it, who will be disappointed, and what match-ups you might want to look forward to seeing later in the week.

Then at 10:00 PM EST... we will broadcast LIVE the Women's Selection Show so you can find out when we do... the 50 teams on the Road to Virginia Beach.

That will be followed by the Men's Selection Show at 10:30 PM EST - when 48 teams find out what their Road to Salem will be like.

After those selections... we will go over it with a fine-tooth comb and find out who we think are the surprises!

And throughout the show, we will hear from different regions with live reports and talk to coaches that have made surprising moves into the tournament.

Of course, you can listen in thank to http://www.goucher.edu/radio">Goucher College.
We suggest you try and use the low-bandwith signal which will require you to have htpp://forms.real.com/netzip/getrde601.html?h=software-dl.real.com&r=2723cbe80ea75bfa7021&f=windows/RealPlayer10-5GOLD_bb.exe&p=RealOne Player&oem=dlrhap_bb&tagtype=ie&type=dlrhap_bb">Real Player and selection the rtsp://helix.goucher.edu/broadcast/goucherradiolb">28K version of the show.

It's time for the Big Dance... the teams are selected... the games are scheduled... and now 48 men's and 50 women's teams will take to the court this weekend with the same goal... a national title.
But who will win? The tournament previews are tonight on "http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville">Hoopsville"!!!

Sunday night we were live when the teams were selected and we found out who was in and out. The women's bracket was done relatively well... the men's bracket seems to be a bit of a disappointment.

But now we are looking ahead at the big games this weekend. From now on its win or go home.

One of those men's teams that is one of the hottest in the nation is #17 Gustavus Adulphus... who is riding an 18-game winning streak into the NCAA Tournament. The Gusties now will take on Lawrence on Thursday and could face the defending National Champs, UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. So, what might Mark Hanson be thinking. We will hear from him tonight and how his team has recovered from their 4-5 start to the season.

Now... the NCAA doesn't seed the Men's and Women's Brackets... but we will!
Tonight, live on the air, we will seed the men's and women's brackets according to how we see it and how we think the NCAA was thinking. So you can get an idea of who the NCAA thinks are the top teams and who might be hosting games in the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 (Regionals).

And there are new #1 teams in both the Men's and Women's Top-25 this week... but barely. UW-Stevens Point is just points ahead of Amherst on the men's side. And on the women's, it is just a point between Scranton and Bowdoin.

We will breakdown the final regular season Top-25 and try and figure out what the voters were thinking. Along with pointing out how not all of the Top-25 made the tournament.

And of course, we will have live regional reports from around the nation and take your questions and comments live on the air.

So come join us online and LIVE from 8PM - 10PM Eastern!

"http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville">Hoopsville": only place where you can listen or chat about Division III Basketball in the nation.

Go to the "http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville">Hoopsville" page for information on how you can listen in and chat with us live!
