OldAuggie

MIAC champions 1928, 1997

Congrats to the Auggies and OldAuggie. I knew the 'Burgs were the dominant forces, but I don't follow D3 wrestlings as closely as I (casually) follow D1. Reading the details in the press release are mind boggling:

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

Quote• Augsburg has now won 15 NCAA Division III national titles in school history (1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2015, 2019, 2023, 2024), tied with Wartburg for the most team titles in Division III. Either Augsburg or Wartburg has won every Division III national title since 1995.
• Augsburg has finished among the top two teams in men's wrestling national competition 29 times since 1975, and has finished among the top 20 teams nationally every year since 1971.
• Augsburg now has 59 men's wrestling national champions in school history -- a record 55 in NCAA Division III competition (since 1983), four in NAIA competition (1968-1983).

That's an insane run of dominance for 2 programs just 3 hours apart.

My youngest is drawn to the mat (vs the hardwood for the older siblings). We had a lot of fun following the Mounds View program this season, and watching the Big 10 and Big 12 tourneys last weekend. We will have to find time to take in some D3 duals this coming season.

Follow up question ... was UWLax expected to be in the mix, or did they get a bump from hosting?

Wait, wait, wait.  How did I not know this? MV had a great team this year.  Our (Maple Grove) 215-lber lost to Quin Morgan in the finals.
We just got back from the MN/USA Wrestling State Tournament.  We had 2 champs and four 5th place finishers.  Little Duff went 2-2 in a brutal bracket--so proud of him!

A tradition unrivaled...

Yeah Quinn had a great year. My youngest is good buddies with a little sister of one of the other MV varsity wrestlers. Fun year to follow them for sure.

Quin's dad, Marty, is a terrifying individual and grade A bad ass.  A few years ago, I was working a tournament, and they asked me to go relieve someone keeping score.  My partner at the table was none other than Marty Morgan.  :o
