General Division III issues / Re: Future of Division III

More on Birmingham Southern.  This is really unfortunate for so many people. It's not like there are too many good liberal arts colleges in the South.

If Pearson were to miraculously go to the Pointers do you believe they'd be a top 15 team in country with upside! I'm dreaming obviously but just imagine

Quote from: DuffMan on March 26, 2024, 09:28:44 PMCurious what % of BU's staff are BU alums.  I could look it up, but I don't want any visits to their site in my search history.  ;)
Heckendorf (OC) and Kulick (QBs) are the only SJU coaches who aren't Johnnies (Kulick technically graduated from SJU but never played a down there).

Their HC, OC/QB coach, WR coach, OLB coach, and CB coach did not play at Bethel. Although the new DB coach is a recent alum they still have a CB coach and he is not. Not sure if they'll have both a DB coach and CB coach. Seems redundant, but maybe DB coach would focus on safeties only?

Thanks for sharing the info Can't expect every kid to stay in college 5-6 years good for him focusing on a career. Certainly would've helped Pointers but they also have some really good talent on the roster so hopefully someone will stay consistent. Don't need 9 guys swinging for home runs all the time I feel the pointers are missing Boos but once again Soule is really good but the experience is missed I'd love to know if he's injured or what's going on same with Brennan Huber who was first team all state last year. Also would love to know what's going on with Weckler and JD Schultz just extremely bizarre situation and if those two ever get healthy they're looking at a formidable rotation which I feel should be 1. Kenny Schultz 2. Mason Weckler 3. JD Schultz 4. Casey Pickering. Schultz and Weckler could be switched but I'm convinced that Pickering should be the 4 and he'd be a very good one.

A potential major situation brewing in the Australian Football League over the last few hours.  It's come out, and the AFL has admitted, that they are faking injuries in order to keep players who fail secret AFL-arranged drug tests away from World Doping Authority testers and, thereby, avoiding a doping ban.

Apparently, players call the league CEO or Commissioner or other executives (sometimes at 2am we've learned) and let them know they have been blowing coke or smoking meth or whatever.  The AFL then fires up their private testing lab to see if the players will fail and arrange fake injuries if needed.  All the while keeping clubs in the dark and avoiding club doctors.

The AFL is claiming (and the AFL-access-authorised media is spinning) that this is for player health (so they don't risk injury playing while stoned) and World Doping integrity (so players aren't trying to avoid tests on their own, instead using the League office to do it).  And... betting markets.  Ah, the real news is there.  The AFL is evading independent doping tests in order to keep players eligible.

Anyways, we'll see where this goes.  It's a hell of a scandal.  It wraps up business, politicians, media... a whole slough of people were needed to keep this quiet.  They will work hard to make it stay that way.

You guys have something of ours, please take good care of it while we are gone.  If you will please place it somewhere special that we may come by and see it occasionally.

The Wesley Cup has new meaning today, it is now a memorial of the past.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I feel so badly for all of the people in/at the school, the program, and all who supported and loved the Panthers. This a sad day for all of D-III, but especially for the Panthers and their supporters! Praying the students and staff/faculty quickly find a home

Multi-Regional Topics / Re: Conference changes

Can't imagine new SAA entrants Trinity and Southwestern have any interest in letting in the remaining ASC schools. They would certainly have preferred remaining in the SCAC at that point.

Quote from: Mavchamp on March 25, 2024, 03:12:40 PMIt's been a year since the mass exodus from the ASC was announced.

A whole year and we have NOTHING....NOTHING from the ASC to give any hope of something positive hoping.

Hope of recruiting schools like Wayland, Texas Wesleyan, Texas College, SGAU, NAU...... we only need 2 of them.  More would be great.  But just two would save the conference.  NOTHING.

Partnership with SCAC?  Nope.
SAA? Nope.
SCIAC?  Nope.
C2C?  Nope.

At this point all four just need to accept the fact that they are going to have to act of their own accord to save themselves.  Can't continue down this road....it's clearly unsustainable due to the staggering lack of leadership from the conference.

Staying D-3 seems unlikely, especially for HSU and UMHB.  Seems no one wants their winning ways.
HPU and ETBU may have slim chances to end up in another D-3 conference.  But seems unlikely.

Do any of them go D2?  NAIA?

Just a total mess.  It's infuriating.

SAA will be looking for another addition, BSC is done, shutting the doors May 31st.

Sorry to hear nothing could get worked out. But, I don't think any of the Baptist 4 have the academic chops to join the SAA lol...
