I agree that the ABCA poll and All America team is a better gauge on reality.

Kyle Stalker from Willamette University is an example.  He was an ABCA West region first team selection - with 22 hrs and great other stats - but he is not even listed on the D3 all america honorable mention selections.
I have seen him play and he is going to the next level .....  not sure why  D3 baseball would not mention him-
Up here in the Northwest we do not get any respect at D3 level.  There is some very good talent in  the Northwest - Stalker is just one example ofa player who was ignored by D3 baseball.

Looking at the Warhawks offense in their regional I'm curious on who Linfield will put on the mound to start.  Do they go with the staff ace in Clark or with Dorn (like the 'Cats did in the regional)?

Dorn will most likely start the first game on Friday and  Clark will start on Saturday.

Dorn gave up only 3 earned runs in 17.1 innings pitched in the central regional against Wisconsin- Stevens Point and Webster.

Clark was solid only giving up two earned runs against #1 seed Illinois Weslyan.

McCulley was in command great until he tired a bit against Wartburg - but a strong bullpen shut off their comeback.
Guterman came in to start against Augustana and shut them down in combination with Cameron Larson.

I attended all the games and the whole pitching staff over all was great. They did their jobs when it counted.

In the five games they played in the regional - they had a 1.94 combined era against some pretty powerful offensive teams. I think we gave up only 1 HR.  The defense was also very solid at .971.

They beat  every team in the regional  except Wisconsin Stevens Point in the opener - and that game was 2-1 in 10 innings. The Cats had the bases loaded in the top of the 9th with no one out and did not score and then had another chance inthe top of the tenth to win - but got doubled up on popped up squeeze paly attempt.

The Cats are playing great baseball going into the finals!

All of Linfield's top 3 starters are can throw upper  80's.
Brian Clark, 89 , Garett Dorn 89  and Reese McCulley has hit 92.
Kyle Mossbrucker, who closes games can hit 91.
Really though- the top three starters are control pitchers who throw strikes and mix up their pitches well.
Clark, who is the number one starter on the staff and was Northwest Conference pitcher of the year faced  Matt Aronson of Illinois Weslyan in Linfields second game. Clark throws a 4 seam, Cutter, Slider, change and his out pitch is a splitter tha can drop off the table.

Dorn is rock solid.  He started two games for Linfield - including the final on 3 days rest.  in 17.1 innings he gave up 3 earned runs.

Linfield's pitching staff had a 1.94 era for the central region tournament in 5 games.  When you combine this pithcing staff with the number one ranked defense in division 3- I am not surprised at all they won the regional.
They basically shut down some outstanding offensive teams.

Linfield has not gotten much national respect this year at all- being up in the Pacific Northwest in Oregon.

Linfield first year head coach and 3 time World Series champion Scott Brosius- and the rest of the coaching staff have the team mentally focused and ready for the finals in Appleton.
Brosius knows what it takes to win at the highest level and I think this is rubbing off on his team.

This is a great story with a world series champion bringing his team to the national championship in his first year as head coach.
