Interesting posts wrt Amherst's fans.  My take, based on a different era.  Remember when there were more students to football games from both schools.  Today, other things draw people plus technology.
The students that will support athletic events....along with their parents may have been out of town.  The tennis teams, track teams, soccer teams, field hockey team were out of town.  Amherst, along with Bates have "small" enrollments. Even among the "smaller" Nescac schools, Amherst's had the smallest fy class...470/471 students.  Amherst admitted less than 11% of its applicants...just under 11 thousand, I recall.  The only other sporting event at Amherst was the volleyball game.  Of the 16 players for Amherst, 13 are from California.  One is from Conn. and another from Hawaii.
The home crowds will grow.  I will be up for homecoming, along with two of my kids, both alums, and their families and their friends.  My oldest son, an alum, and his wife will not make it.  They are out of the country.  A classmate, a former football player,  always attends homecoming...flies in from the UK.  Today's diverse students have diverse interest...just a thought.

Dude, Hamilton didn't lose Joe Schmidt. (Unless he missed the bus to Brunswick) He's a senior.

Our sources in Clinton tell us he is injured and will not play for awhile...we wish him well.

Schmidt averaged 26 yds per catch today. You need better sources.

"Dude", as most people on this board know, we are right way more often than we are wrong including coaching changes, players of the year, all-league and injuries...occasionally, we miss one...mea culpa if it affected how much you laid on Hamilton at Turning Stone....we had them covering with or without Schmidt...

Good news and bad news for the Bobcats.  They finally have some receivers who can get separation.  But their secondary needs a LOT of work.  O'Regan is good, but don't count on him being open as much the rest of the year as he was today.

Costa had his moments, but that second pick he threw was painful.  Thank God NSN doesn't have replays.

And the kicking game was horrific on both sides of the ball.  The CAC has had some pretty good kickers over the years.  Hauschka had a great NFL career, Willie Holmquist played in a Bowl game for Duke after graduating from Tufts, and Sachse is lighting it up on that ghastly blue turf in D1 this season.  Not sure what to make of today's results?

Polar, not sure you noticed but the Wes kicker had a pretty good day (3 for 3 on moderating long FG by 'CAC standards) and numerous TBs on KOs....Seems like a lock for special teams POTW...

IslandTime...glad you got pass Dorian and got to Middletown!  Checked the Wes site.  Having cheerleaders helps the home crowd :). Just kidding.  Saw that Williams' soccer teams were playing nearby...adds to the atmosphere/crowd.  Assume you will be up for the Amherst vs Wes Homecoming game.  Drop by my class tent or the Cage afterwards to say hi and meet my family..finally.  Plenty of goodies to be found :).  Till then...may both teams meet undefeated!

Dude, the only constant in your posts is the  inherent pomposity and hubris, along with an unhealthy disdain for underdogs. That said, I look forward to your weekly picks. Btw, I never bet. I don't have enough money to waste on such activity, and I consider casinos to be the cesspools of a declining culture. I'll leave betting and fantasy leagues to  the NARPS and degenerates amongst us.

Whoa!  One week into the season and the board is already salty.  I love it!  That former Lord Jeff's dad from the West Coast would feel right at home.  All we need now is a return of the penis-wagging former AC.

NBC, as Lumber will attest I have a special spot in my heart for kicking units, K's, LS's and Holders included.  (Even the Patriots new holder struggles from time to time).  If you re-read my post, you'll note I didn't pin the blame on the K just the unit.  (Though both kickers may want to speed up their operation time).

Now all we need is for WestCoastDad to come back telling us kickers aren't football players.  Then the band will be back together.   ;D

PolarCat, glad to hear from you  too.  Ah, the WCD, his son playing a starting DB position.  Hope they are well.  WCD did support both Amherst and his school, USC well. USC has it's problems...the AD just resigned recently...probably due to the Admission stories. Too bad, the AD was a great football player for USC.
Was reading the football stories around the conference.  As of this afternoon....very few loosing teams featured their lost.  Williams has not even posted a story, the last time I checked.

A few thoughts on Amherst:

(1) Thank goodness for Eberth.  This is the first year of him being the best player on the team and they will need all of it.  He is very good and as he goes the Jeffs go;
(2)  Likely the worst year in forever at the running back position.  its early, but I don't see anyone stepping into the vacant shoes.   Okoronkwo opting to stay aboard to study this Fall had to have been a major blow to the coaching staff.   Hope they prove me wrong but I don't see it;
(3)  Defense is young.   Looks like one of those building years for the defense with Yamin gone as well as four of the other top five tacklers.   EJ knows defense so they should be able to hang in;

Happy with the win against a very tough, game Bates team.   The Bates quarterback played terrific.

Boy that Amherst arsenal is hard to handle but Hall had the Bates team ready to play and compete. A good sign for the future. Eberth can play and the size advantage of LJ receivers was a tall order for Bates. The LJs don't want that kind of physicality every week.

Yes- Costa is a gamer and a playmaker.

Jefffan,

I know you have been on here for a while, so with all due respect are you kidding?  #10 is an inaccurate qb who calls his own number way too often and is definitely is not the best player.  My vote is for O Regan or one of the DBs.

With the lack of depth at RB, the LJs will need to throw it more to beat the better teams and the O will will need to be more "current".  The front 7 is coming around and had better results for in H2.

I'm sure we are both looking forward to building on this week's win. #TusksUp

FormerJeff75

First time post, but had to considering the hate from "AmDad" on #10. Eberth is a tremendous leader on and off the field and tough as nails. I'll take him over any other QB in the league.
