Maybe I'm just an old lineman with a slanted view,  but I don't at all think they were conservative in their offensive game plan or play calling in either game.  The level of competition changes a lot of things, including how crazy you can get with play calls.  It's easy to throw bombs against W&J when you know they aren't a legit threat if it kills the drive or even if it's intercepted.   Playing an evenly matched foe makes each possession and first down more critical.

Just my 2 cents from an O-lineman's perspective.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I wouldn't call it conservative.    I'd call it struggling on offense because you're going against a really good defense.

I'm glad a few Mount guys have said this. For some Mount fans, it seems like "conservative playcalling" is the fallback excuse for "our plays are getting shut down."

As I said to my brother, a Mount grad who did not attend the game yesterday, when he asked me "Why is Mount letting [JCU] stay in the game?" It might surprise you to know that JCU plays defense too.

JCU has one of their best defenses that they have had in years.  Don Shula's grandson is getting a lot out of the talented players he has on that side of the ball.  JCU's defensive line dominated Mount's offensive line in the first game and to a much lesser extent in the rematch, but they sure got the attention of Burke resulted in several hurried throws especially on some of shorter throws.

You will have to ask the other posters about conservative play calling but my references to conservative calls was fewer attempts at stretching the defense and not going for it on short 4th downs beyond midfield.

This isn't what you said before, bud. You said that but for conservative playcalling, the games would not have been so close.

You're changing your argument mid stream.

USee

Precisely!

For the record, having seen JCU in person and Mt several times online, I agree w HS Coach's view.

For all the out of town Mount fans.  The game vs Wesly will be on espn 360 and espnu at noon.  The game UWW vs Linfield will be at 3:30PM on espn 360 and probably espnu.

Are you sure they're on ESPNU?  They're usually only on ESPN3/ESPN360 aka the streaming video.  Not that I'm complaining.  The quality is usually good on those.

Release from Mount Union:  ...Game on ESPNU

Thanks for the link, K&JD.  Didn't realize this will be Mount's 100th postseason game.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

Thanks K&JD. And amonachino too.  I only asked because my ESPNU shows college hoops Saturday at noon.  Hopefully that changes!

The other thing that I viewed as a sign of just how seriously the Mount staff viewed JCU was the focus on field position.  They seemed hyper focused on winning the field position battle.  It would have brought a tear to Jim Tressel's eye.

@d3jason

I think they're going to air it the following Thursday at 1 pm.

I may not get a chance to watch MUC on STO tonight, but the Buckeyes are doing their best Mount Union monkey-stomp impersonation.   :o

Still going to be the odd team out unless FSU collapses. So thankful for our AQ system

Or maybe not ...  ;D

Yep. Extremely surprised and again very, very thankful for our system...

Me too.. BUT, I think they got it right with the 4 teams -- I'm not agreeing with their logic, necessarily.. but whatever.

This is very true -- maybe you should try standing up straight for shorter periods of time and see if that helps?

Great analysis, though.  Glad to have you as one of the voices of reason around here.

Yeah, I don't think they got it wrong, but I also don't think there is much difference between Ohio State, TCU and Baylor. Ohio St seems to be playing at a high level right now but any of those three teams had good reasons to be the last one in. Interested in Fl St/Oregon. Not sure FSU is all that good, but so hard to tell because of their competition.

Hmmm.  Compliments from both Usee and SaintsFAN on the same page?  Maybe I should consider buying a lottery ticket.

Or maybe they've both been drinking?
