I agree that JCU  does get better as the season progresses, but the schedule is what it is this year. My take is the Raiders
have an advantage because of location, the passing game is well along for only two games. The Oline and running game
will get stronger as the season progresses. JCU needs to keep it close in the 1st half, if not then it could be a longer
day. With 15 sacks, JCU brings the rush, look for Mount to counter with short screens and quick outs with quick
hit runs to keep the defense honest. Neither team can afford turnovers.  Both defenses will be very aggressive.

Unlike BW, there is great respect for JCU and vice versa, so I expect a hard hitting, but clean game. :)

My favorite uniform is Purple helmets, white jersey and purple pants, followed by the old black jersey and purple pants, IMHO :)

For 2018, the Warhawks will win the WIAC IMHO.  ;)

After attending the Raiders first game, a few thoughts:

- The defense was great for the first game, LB's and secondary made great plays all night. Defenses are most always
ahead of the offenses at the start of the season.

- The offense was not sharp overall, execution and timing were off, the best part of the offense for this game was running the
ball with several ball carriers. The Raiders have some up and coming talent going forward and over a long season will need
   that from time to time.

- The passing game was really off, missed throws, just not crisp as usual, but will come over the next games

- Penalties for the first game are normal, but 12 for over 100 yards just kills any momentum. I thought some of the call were
questionable, but corrections are needed  for upcoming BW and JCU.

- Rose- Holman was not a bad team, but could not execute, too many 3 and outs, and though a big team they lacked overall
team speed which became more obvious as th game wore on.

- The  Raider line play was not that good, key lineman Frazier out for awhile and the had some impact.

Although the game was never in doubt, IMHO, the Raiders need to work on several offensive areas.

Was on campus recently and saw Geoff Dartt with a couple of other coaches. Just checked out his Twitter and it says he's a Mount Union coach again. I know he came back for medical treatment in Cleveland, so I hope all is well with him. It'll be nice to have him back on staff in any way, but I hope he takes care of himself first!

Coach Dartt is listed as ST Coordinator and TE Coach in this tweet:

K & J's Dad,

Thanks for the post, glad to see Coach Dartt back at Mount! :)

John Carroll has hired their O and D coordinators.
Benedictine HS coach Joe Schaefer is the new defensive coordinator.
Brush HS coach Jeff Fink is the new offensive coordinator.
It seems Finotti wants to go in a new direction with high school coaches.

IMHO, JCU did not elevate their strength in the OAC by hiring two HS coaches with no apparent college experience for the
top assistant positions. B-W on the other hand is in a stronger position in terms of coaching. We'll see how it develops next fall ::)

Talked with Dean Frazier yesterday, his son chose JCU for a few reasons other than that his father is Dean at Mount.
He will play wide receiver for JCU not QB.

I think the Dom Davis situation simultaneously illustrates two keys to Mount's sustained success:

1.  Best guy plays.  Every starter earns his spot every week and that is understood.  If someone is outperforming you then he plays ahead of you.  Unfortunately for Dom in the eyes of the coaching staff Fulford and Poorman were performing better than him.  It sucks for him, but only one QB starts.

2.  Next man up.  This year Trey Williams steps in for Dear.  Brish steps in for Groves.  And the expectation is there will be no gaping hole, no major fall off.  You step in and step up.  Dom did that last year as a freshman and that will never cease to be impressive and worthy of our respect.

I wish him the best of luck at Walsh.  I hope he wins the job and lights it up.  I'm also glad his parents/family will still be close by and able to watch him play.

Agree, Well said! :)

I know very little about UMU other than their amazing success, but I am curious what is is about LK and VK that have made them so damn good?  Any insight?

Jack Parkman,

There are so many factors that many people can list as to the success of the program under Coach L. Kehres and Coach V. Kehres. Here is just a few:

- Set the goal each year of winning the conference and making the playoffs

- Recruiting the best talent across the country.

- Building the team based upon the talent you have versus requiring players to fit into a system

- Studying in depth the competition and assessing with great accuracy a game plan for success

- Recruiting those players who are very intelligent and want to obtain their degrees in four years

- Having stability of a great coaching staff blending new talented coaches with seasoned veterans

- Confidence in making in-game successful adjustments and always respecting your oponents

- Preparation is a top priority

The success of program attracts the talent and the 15 week season allows younger players more time
to develop and make a contribution. Graduation becomes the "next man up" approach and all this plus
more over the last 25 plus years. :)
