Another QB quietly having an outstanding season is Ben Thorson. 70% completions, 30 passing TDs, 0 INTs.

Haha, great post!  Swider always did remind me a steroid-free Ultimate Warrior (moment of silence).

My freshman year, Coach's first year as DC, we referred to him as "Greystoke" from the Tarzan movie.

It looks like Washington University football has a new head coach: https://washubears.com/sports/fball/2019-20/releases/20200106ekuf1a

A+ Hire. His offenses at EMU really allowed them to be competitive with less talent than other schools in the MAC. I think he will have WashU as a top 3 CCIW team for years to come.

Not sure of the possibility, but we did highlight how the DC for EMU is former Wheaton College football player - Neal Neathery.   Wouldn't it be crazy if the CCIW poached both coordinators from EMU?

Clemson RB just spiked the ball after scoring the go-ahead TD vs OSU... and no one said boo. Just sayin'

Didn't notice it initially, but he certainly did.  :-\

This announcement kinda puts into perspective Coach Swider's clear disappointment during the SJU post game interview.

Put yourself in his shoes... After 35 years your very talented team is clearly in the best position it has ever been in towards a goal you've focused on for over 3 decades.  Finally in a position to have home games through at least the semis without having to go through Mount Union or UWW in a 2nd round game.  Then a loss to a very talented SJU team in such a heart breaking fashion.

That said, Coach Swider constantly preached living with "no regrets."  I have many life lessons I can directly attribute to my time as a player and a coach at Wheaton College.  His impact is significant to the players he has led, WAY BEYOND just wins and loses.  Great coach, great man.  Congrats Coach on an outstanding career and all the best in your retirement.

Swider coaching tree is broad from D3 staffs.

Neal Neathery:
QuoteEntering his fourth year at EMU is Neal Neathery, who came to Ypsilanti after spending six years at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Neathery serves as the team's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, while adding the title of assistant head coach prior to the 2018 season.

A coaching veteran of more than two decades, Neathery reunited in 2016 with Creighton after working together for 13 seasons compiling six conference championships and a 109-21 (.838) record between stops at Drake University, Wabash (Ind.) College and Ottawa (Kan.) University. Named the 2007 American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year, he has been the defensive coordinator at each of his five previous coaching stops.

Obviously becoming Assistant Head Coach at EMU, it is not likely he'd be moving into D3.

Who will his replacement be? Jesse Scott? Would think Don Beebe down the street in Aurora would be considered.

Rod Sandberg at Whitworth has a lot of ties to Wheaton. I'd think Jesse Scott gets it, however.

Steve Ryan has led Morningside University for 17 years.

QuoteSteve Ryan has guided the Mustangs to a 170-40 record for a .809 winning percentage in 17 seasons for the most football coaching victories and the highest victory rate in Morningside history. Ryan has led the Mustangs to 15 consecutive post-season appearances in the NAIA National Championship Series, where the team has advanced to at least the semifinals six times in the last seven years. He has led the Mustangs to nine Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) championships, including their current run of eight consecutive league titles.

He led them to a NAIA national championship last year, and they are in the championship game again this year - I believe sitting on 29 wins in a row.  I'm sure he is very happy there, but obviously another very, very strong candidate if he so chose.

Ack... didn't see CardinalAlum's post before I submitted this.

Oh, I certainly don't lose track of time when I'm there. Not at all. On the contrary, I become a clock-watcher. I have a deathly fear of missing the last train home and being stuck thirty miles out in the suburban wilderness. ;)

Careful... many west suburbanites sense those who have adverse dislike of suburban sprawl, strip malls, and cookie cutter sub-divisions!

Keep your eyes down and carry bag that looks like you've purchase something from The Gap, Petco, or any other common chain retailer, or dinner from Chipotle, Chick-fil-a, etc...

Had the unsportsmanlike penalty not happened, I wonder if Wheaton would have gone for 2?

And if Wheaton hadn't been penalized for illegal substitution resulting in offsetting penalty during the roughing the kicker, they would have been back at the 2 yardline again.

Swider has a history of doing so, and Wheaton was quite effective running the ball - particularly in the 2nd half.  I think he goes for it.

What do I know?  In the post game interviews, Swider said they had zero intent on going for 2 points.  With 6 minutes left in the game he told the OC they would not be going for 2 if it came down to the end of the game.

If it went to OT, he felt they had a better kicking game (which didn't quite show itself).  He felt the defense was getting beat on the long passes over the head of defenders, "which doesn't happen as much from the 25 going in."

Spiked the ball on the TD

So, I'm just going to say it. I watched that game and I have no complaint w the referee's call, but I sure wondered aloud why the center was carrying the ball at the goal line. I know Wheaton has very good RB's. I get the whole "Fridge" ness of the play, but for me, you go w what got you there. Unintended consequences.

Just a guess.  Wheaton had used the jumbo package throughout the year.  Obviously not a core scheme, nor a gimmick either.  It had been successful at other points during the year on 4th and short.  And their best running back had been hobbled for the better part of the season with a high ankle sprain, which he appeared to re-tweek earlier in the quarter.

Wouldn't the penalty been half the distance to the goal?

Yep, your right.  So... we'll back it down to if the unsportsmanlike penalty hadn't occurred.

Wow, and Wheaton pulls an 'Ole Miss and loses.

Isn't Wheaton like the most ultra religious type school there is? What could someone have said/done to get a penalty like that?

Hard to tell. Cost them the game whatever it was. Discipline?

Center lined up in the backfield as fullback 3 straight plays.  Goes for 6, 1, and then 1 yard TD.  Was over excited and threw the ball down hard.  Enough to be deemed spiking the ball.  Not a real spike, but the ref has to call it.  A lot of centers scoring a potential game tying TD in the quarterfinals of the playoffs might get a bit excited.

Not sure exact what any of the above has to do with coming from a private Christian college.  What does personal religious faith have to do with any of that?

Things continue to heat up between MIAC vs CCIW... the atmosphere in McCully is going to be ELECTRIC!
Can't wait!!!

I'm going to drive like a maniac to see the 2nd half in person.  My son has a high school swim meet in the morning - family first.
