Was perusing through some schedules on D3, and I was wondering: What in the heck is Louisiana College doing playing Alcorn State (an FCS school). And what in the heck is Alcorn State doing scheduling them (after playing Georgia Tech the week prior)?

Does LC have that big of a problem getting games?
Back in 1996 HSU whipped 1-AA (now FCS) Prairie View by a few touchdowns
That says something about upper level D3 playing lesser/lower level FCS.

Linfield alum qb is now qb coach at Miss. State. Has a lot to work with in Nick Fitzgerald. We'll see.

Good guess. Just wondered if ETBU had an injury bug or if SRSU brought along the Marfa lights.  ::)
In any case gotta give SRSU congrats.
#4
Seriously. What happened to ETBU? Whoda thunk it?
SRSU was no walkover, but handling ETBU in Marshall that way is quite the surprise.
#5
Is that ETBU v. SRSU halftime score correct?  ???
Wow!  :o

Playoff talk for HSU is a little premature. HSU still has to beat McMurry next week. My money would be on HSU, but one never knows. Ask Texas A&M! ::)

Can you cite/explain some examples of the type stuff you saw? No numbers or teams (to avoid unnecessary further embarrassment). I am just morbidly curious.

The stats show the close game it was. It doesn't seem fair to lay the loss at the feet of the UMHB qb. His completion percentage was close to the HSU qb's. And no interceptions. Besides, it is a team game. Win or lose.
DFWCrufan's take looks pretty fair. And classy.

Indeed, that may have been the point of the post, but not to be aware of the vast difference between an oxymoron and redundance is ridiculous as well.

Gain of positive yardage sounds more like redundancy than an oxymoron, doesn't it?

mcmfan -- Fair question. HSU played 3 QB's. As Mr. Taff posted, #1 was pulled after one dive in 4th Q, but overlooked is that the #3 QB had already played by then. Those aspects look pretty different than what McM did last week.

The issues related to the other coaches were factors as well. But the back to back winless seasons were somewhat due to lack of experience on the parts of those who had to start. Sounds like a HUGE bite to me.
No insult intended. I was just inferring form what the othes posters suggested or observed -- and what I had seen at McM subsequent to the season I was noting.

Seems to me that the point McCabe and umhb2001 are making is that the type offense has little to do with it -- if crukid is correct:
"The second team QB threw a TD with 30 seconds left, it was his first and only drive of the game. Mullin threw his 4th TD pass of the game with 6 minutes left and a 30 point lead." It could be that the 2nd string QB needs experience with the same offense (if that will be what they do in seasons/games to come).
Under head coach Keenum McM was pulling that kind of stuff back in 1999 with having Braxton Shaver in the game very late and with a several td lead. That came back to bite them. Big time. As for this year's McM and their future - we will see.
In any case, to have a record in sight for a player and to sub -- even under those circumstances -- may be tougher than some of us recognize.

We've done some more research and shared it -- I rediscovered that UW-La Crosse beat South Dakota State in 2006.

Sorry for the confusion on our part yesterday; actually I personally did not tweet that it was the first time that this had happened. Also if you watched our coverage, you may have noticed that Coach Mumme said it in the postgame as well. Pat helped us look up the above number, and also provided information that might interest ASC fans, and that is that Howard Payne beat Prairie View A&M in 1998 - so McMurry becomes the second ASC team to pull off the feat and the first D3 school in five seasons.

Either way, we're all still beaming. I'd like to go on record as saying that I am moving all further McMurry games home and road to the Alamodome"
And a  little further back, in 1996, HSU beat Prairie View A&M 42-14.

HSU will bus to DFW where they will catch the flight to Oregon.
As for the bus driver losing his/her way to Salem, well, the bus driver will be from Oregon. And HSU's colors and uniforms look a whole lot like LSU's. So there could be some hard feelings and the driver may want to overshoot Salem and take them elsewhere.  ::)
