Lost in the fun on Friday Night, HPU names Braxton Harris their new head coach.

http://www.bigcountryhomepage.com/sports/harris-named-head-coach-at-howard-payne/621702353

Former Cru guy and personal friend. I wish him all the best except for when he plays us.

The Brownwood paper wrote up a pretty good story about Braxton http://www.brownwoodtx.com/sports/20170112/new-football-coach-braxton-harris-has-vision-set-on-howard-paynes-future,

Crazy stat from the story that the Yellow Jackets are 20-80 in their last 100 games. Crazy to me since I was a student when HPU upset UMHB back in 05 and it seems to have gone down hill ever since for them, does anyone know if their is a reason since they were doing pretty good in the early 2000's.

Anyway good luck to Braxton and Mark Carey (another former UMHB player/coach then TLU coach).

Only 234 days till kickoff  ;)

While the (former) players involved are not guilty until proven in a court of law, this is heartbreaking.   Condolences to all involved.

QuoteTwo football players at McMurry University (Abilene, Texas) were arrested Wednesday on charges of capital murder.  Dontrell Dock, 19, and Ryan McBeth, 20, were arrested by U.S. Marshals in Abilene in connection with the Jan. 11 shooting death of 29-year-old Chris-Dion Russell in Fort Worth, according to Abilene television station KTXS.

The external media hasn't picked up yet that the third person sought in connection with the killing is also a McMurry player:

The QB. He was also a former player at UMHB. Left during fall camp when he realized he wouldn't be playing for varsity.

Very heartbreaking...

You always hope that you can help a young person can get out of that environment. Last Sunday a friend of mine from New Orleans was talking about how many young people were "liberated" from New Orleans after Katrina dispersed them to other cities. A chance to start afresh was a common element in many of her stories.

UMHB reloads. QB commits have been looking strong, one brings along an OLineman. RB also is a point of focus so far. Several quality dudes coming. Linebacker again is a point of interest as well. Excited for this time of year when we get to see who is next.

Once again Crufaithful that time comes when young nuggets looking to take that step into their collegiate years and play football begin committing to going to certain programs. With UMHB being the 2016 National Champions in DIII and already having a great pipeline of players to recruit from in Central Texas, being 16-0 is a bit of stuffing to help seal a deal. So we have a list of new young players who are wanting to come to UMHB for the 2017 Fall semester. Here are some of the released commitments so far.

An Interesting bit of news. Will Chaney was also recruited by Southwestern University, and has chosen to go with UMHB. Chaney is a QB 6'0" 205lbs out of Alamo Heights HS .. http://www.hudl.com/video/3/5196643/582350164ba877176ca1c3fb

Also Ryan Connelly at G, T 6'3" 270lbs out of Alamo Heights HS was going to Attend Abilene Christian, but has changed his commitment to go with UMHB ..http://www.hudl.com/profile/5293274/ryan-connelly

A few things, AJ Blacknall is really supposed to be a very good RB, perhaps a good compliment to Markeith Miller. Will Chaney and Ryan Connelly are coming as a package, both were in a successful HS program together, of course making the Varsity roster your freshman year is really hit N miss, but who knows, We are reloading at QB so I would imagine at least two or three of these young men to attend QB camps over the summer.
The Cru are graduating some amazing young players, but the juniors alone have such talent and solid leadership prospects the 2017 season looks very solid even from this far out. Sure there is summer and all kinds of hurdles to get over, but I'm looking forward already to a 2017 Cru

Be sure those recruits know they have to go to McMinnville next year and play in that heat and humidity.

When's the awards banquet?

I don't have any info on the banquet, but I'm quite sure everyone will be looking forward to our trip to the Northwest and a brief break from the scorching September heat in Texas.

It looks there will be quite a battle for the starting QB job. There is some incredible talent coming in and, from what I have been told, there are a couple that have yet to announce and they have great potential. I have no doubt that whoever emerges as the starter will do well, especially under the guidance of OC/QB coach Stephen Lee.

Last night was a huge community wide celebration of The CRU's national championship. It was a come and go affair. I guesstimate around 1,500 in attendance. It was a great time:http://kdhnews.com/sports/college/umhb/bell-county-celebrates-crusaders-national-championship/article_81a78bdc-e9c4-11e6-bbe4-0766887c51dc.html
