Saw much of Westmin - Font game on internet...

Interesting story... when I signed on to watch, it appeared the game was not going to be video on the net... no link on Fonbonne site, SLIAC site, or D3hoops.   I didn't think it would do any good, as it was mid Saturday afternoon, but I called and left a message for Maria Buckel, VP of Athletics at Fontbonne... I went directly to the point, expressing my disappointment that the game was not being broadcast, a game important to the standings, important especially to fans of Westminster and Matt Mitchell... I was in no way rude, and made use of the word disappointed 2 or 3 times rather than reverting to slurring anybody connected to the program

10 minutes later, my phone rings, showing a call from FONTBONNE... low and behold, Ms Buckel had checked her messages prior to tipoff, apologized and thanked me, because Fontbonne had no idea the video link to the game had not been posted...  the link had been put up immediately after receiving my call and the game was on...her last words were "enjoy the game!!! "  Well Ms Buckel, I did, and I'm sure other Font and Westmin fans did too...

Glad I made the call, glad (and amazed) that Ms Buckel got the message, And SO GLAD I didn't act like a raving lunatic when I left the message!!!!!!!

The Webster Women are getting more and more local press: https://fox2now.com/sports/eyes-on-the-prize-webster-university-womens-hoops-team-focused-on-ncaa-championship/

The goal is the national championship.

In regards to the player of the year, it is crazy to me that one might think the championship team has one POY candidate while the team a few games back has two.  Clark is good, but not that good that he is doing it all alone.

Elijah Rice leads the team in scoring with 16 points per game (50% from the field) and is second in rebounding with 7 rebounds per game.  His ability to defend and create offense for others...  Rice has to be on the short list whether you prefer stats or film to make the call.

No qualms with your argument.... I looked at Big men and chose Dorethy over Davidson and Stewart.... I looked at small forward/ shooting guard and chose Milsteadt over Rice....   No point guard compared to Clark

If I had to vote for one... Dorethy would push out Milsteadt.... Clark vs Doherthy... I go with Clark....

As I said, coaches and I never match....  ;D ;D ;D   Josh Johnson from Webster made POY last year... I totally missed the boat on that one with him on my 2n team all conference!!!!!

From the little I've seen this year (limited to internet)... I was thinking about the SLIAC MVP for the 21-22 season...

I came up with 5 candidates
Caden Clark   Fontbonne
Clark Davidson   Prin
Ian Milsteadt  Eureka
Logan Dorethy  Eureka
Christian Stewart Spalding

I passed by Elijah Rice because I feel Caden Clark is most responsible for Fontbonne's 1st place finish in conference
Webster, Westminster, Greenville and Blackburn offered no logical candidates...

There are 3 big men in the group...Davidson couldn't keep a good start by Prin going, and Stewart and Spalding were inconsistent, so I will eliminate those 2.

That leaves Clark, an outstanding floor leader.... Dorethy, the best offensive big man in the conference, and Milsteadt an athletic exciting player to watch...I NEVER agree with coaches voting, and always acknowledge they know far better than me.... wonder if one of my final 3 (obviously hedging my bet this year) will be selected by the coaches.... ??? ???

Nice to see SLIAC.org Recognize Westminster Coach Matt Mitchell for career win No. 300!!!

Now... next step.... Coach Mitchell now sits at a career record of 300 - 300.  One regular season game left, against conference leader Fontbonne...
Fontbonne is clearly the best team in the SLIAC, but the teams are close to evenly matched from the top of the conference to the bottom (see 8th place Greenville knocking off 2nd place Eureka 2 days ago).. Westminster can be competitive in this game, and an upset win would assure Coach Mitchell of a .500 career record, no matter what happens in the conference tourney.

Now then... one other solution... Mitch retires today at 300-300, new Head Coach Todd Creal starts tomorrow at Fontbonne ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

Coach Mitchell gets No 300 as Westmin gets the upset over Blackburn!!!

And Greenville shocks Eureka....

Nice % comparison... but you forgot to mention Kampf has 4 times the total 3 point shots that Jacob has and 5 times the conference 3 point shots.....

That is an interesting point.

How many does a player have to make before the comparison is worth making?

Hardy has been around 44% all season with 29 made three-pointers compared to 59 by Kampf.

Interesting.

You should call the Principia coach and discuss.  He may appreciate the perspective.

WUPIFFF... I'm trying to keep this room interesting.... your sarcasm doesn't help....

Yesterday, I mentioned Principia's Jake Kampf and his 3 point shooting abilities....and my frustrations that the Prin offense didn't seem to gear much towards getting him the ball on the perimeter..
Last night against Fontbonne, Kampf goes 5 for 7 from the 3 point range... raising his season 3 point % to 45.5%, which puts him in the top 10 of D3....Crazier yet, his 3 point % in conference games is 54.2%... a number, that if it were for all games, would be FAR ahead of any D3 shooter's stats.. No 1 in the country

Kampf is not the type of player who can create shots with offensive moves... it's off the ball movement and cooperation from teammates with screens and skip passes, and penetration and dish situations.

I'm glad that the kid is the type of player who is dependent upon his teammates to get him scoring opportunities. It'd be a shame if he had to go through his playing days with the nickname Jake "Mein" Kampf. ;)

Help me Lord, Help Me ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Your point is well taken, but I have to point out, if we look only at conference games, Charlie Jacob is shooting 55.6% (45.2% for the season) in UAA play.

I think everyone thought he would Jacob would have a great senior season, but he is currently the primary offensive threat in the back court in the absence of Jack Nolan.

WUPIFFFF  ;D ;D ;D   nice % comparison... but you forgot to mention Kampf has 4 times the total 3 point shots that Jacob has and 5 times the conference 3 point shots.....

Eureka vs Prin.....When it boggles me enough, I gotta comment..... Prin's Jake Kampf is the top 3 point shooter in the SLIAC... one would think the offense might be geared for penetration by others and dish to Kampf on the perimeter.... instead I see Kampf penetrating and Dishing to Miles and Bird... and they keep shooting, and missing....

Hopefan's wild prediction as to how the conference standings will finish.... not reviewing tiebreakers...

Fontbonne      13-1
Eureka             11-3
Blackburn        8-6
Spalding            7-7
Principia          5-9
Webster            5-9
Westminster     5-9    (yes I'm predicting an upset win over Blackburn)
Greenville          2-12

Unfortunately with 3 teams at 5-9 and not having researched the tie breakers, I can't take this prediction further to forecast conference tourney matchups.

Extremely tough loss for Coach Matt Mitchell and the Westminster Blue Jays yesterday.   We know Coach Mitchell is retiring from Coaching this year... his entire coaching head coaching spent at Westminster.  Mitch entered into last night's game with a 2lifetime 299-299 record, 3 games left in the regular season, and the conference tourney remaining.  The 3 games remaining were yesterday at Spalding, Blackburn at home, and at Fontbonne.

To get to 300 wins, one win was necessary.... a possible candidate to get that win against was at Spalding who had played hot and cold in the conference, (but darn, a tremendous lengthy bus trip and playing in the tight, dark Spalding gym is always so tough).. Westmin couldn't make the adjustment and got beat.
So now Coach Mitchell is at 299-300.....He needs 2 for 2 to guarantee a .500 career record including whatever happens in the tourney... more critical he needs a win on Wednesday night vs Blackburn for win no 300... if it doesn't happen, it's a highly unlikely chance at victory at Fontbonne, who has been playing outstanding ball in conference... then on to the conference tourney where they would likely play at Eureka... again a tough win..

Mitch needs the win at home vs Blackburn for win number 300..... Here's hoping the Westminster student body, admin, and community pack their historical gym on Wednesday night to see him get it....

Also a last play decision at Webster last night... Fontbonne can't seem to lose these close games, Webster can't seem to win....

Webster led much of the game vs Eureka.. game is tied and Eureka's Logan Dorethy hits what I would consider a miracle shot at 10 seconds left... a turn around fade away jumper from the foul line, very well defended, so much so that it seemed to be a no-look throw.... but it went in.    Webster can't answer and Eureka gets the win.

That Mahoney injury looked pretty bad.   Non contact injury that made him go down in an instant.   I hope it's not an achilles.

Sorry to report that I received an email today from Coach Gilbride that confirmed RPI senior tore his Achilles....
