Well in eager anticipation the 64 Pre-Season Poll

1. Randolph Macon (this pains me, pains me so)
2. Shenandoah U (why not?  QB is a stud)
3. H-SC (Gotta love my Tigers but I cannot be a homer)
4. W&L (Stakes a step back with Abell having left)
5. FC (Ferrum is an up and coming program down in the end of the state I
6. BC (Their offensive scheme is usually enough to throw a few people off, perhaps a trip back to glory soon.
7. Guilford
8. Emory and Henry (After last year's collapse and an L to Open up the Crooked Road Classic, don't see the Wasps winning many in conference this year.
Your post says volumes about being the bastard stepchild of the ODAC.  lol

Huntingdon had over 140 report today including 76 returning players. Practice starts tomorrow.
Now I begin the process of refreshing the roster web page about a zillion times a day until the new one is posted. ;)

Go Hawks!
Hawks88, are you making the September 1 trip to Guilford?  Let me know your plans.
We're still coming. I've got a room booked but that is about as far as my planning has gotten right now.
Great.  PM me if you need anything.

When is ODAC media day?  Im getting antsy!!!

Not sure about media day, but coaches poll gets released on Monday 8/20.

I thought the ODAC did away with Media Day. Pretty sure we didn't have one last year, just a coordinated release date for coaches poll and having coaches/players available for interview if media wanted it but on individual campuses.
I think you are right.

CIAA is the only D2 football conference in the area I believe. It will be interesting to watch that program grow, or not. Sounds like a tough gig to me.
The CIAA is a traditional HBCU conference, but they did admit Chowan a few years ago.  The CIAA may be looking for members since some long time affiliates such as WSSU and NCCU are trying their hand at DI.   It is the most logical geographic fit for football with Fayetteville State, Elizabeth City State, Chowan, Shaw and St Augustine's all in east central or eastern NC.  There are other CIAA schools such as Virginia State and Virginia Union in southeastern VA.

Maybe the SAC?  With LR, Catawba, Mars Hill Wingate and others.  Not sure who's in that conference now but they did lose Brevard. Good to hear about another NC school adding football.
The DII SAC is a good thought.  In addition to losing Brevard, the SAC also lost Pfeiffer to DIII, but the Falcons did not play football.  Other factors in favor of this possibility:  HC Chip Hester was Head Coach at Catawba for 11 years and the Barton Bulldogs (then Atlantic Christian) used to be in the old NAIA Carolinas Conference with Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill.  When I was an undergraduate at Guilford, the conference also included the Quakers, High Point, Elon, Presbyterian, Newberry and others.

What football conference will Barton play in ?
Hi, tfa2.  Barton is a member of the Conference Carolinas, but none of the other schools currently play football.  I don't know if the Bulldogs will try to go it as an independent, wait for other conference members to add football or skip to another DII conference.  I'll have to wait and see.  I could see them trying to schedule some of the state's DIIIs until they get a foothold.  NC Wesleyan would be a geographic rival, for sure.

Division II Barton College (formerly Atlantic Christian) in Wilson, NC has announced plans to start football and begin play in 2020.   Former Guilford player Chip Hester has been named as the new Head Coach of the Bulldogs (they actually had football until 1950, I think).  By my count, this will make the 33rd college in North Carolina with NCAA football.  In my opinion, this new program will most likely affect NC Wesleyan or Methodist as an infringement on their typical recruiting area.

UNC-CH, Duke, Wake Forest, NC State, Appalachian, Davidson, Elon, West Carolina, East Carolina, Brevard, Mars Hill, Catawba, Livingstone, Campbell, Barton, Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem State, Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate, Gardner-Webb, Guilford, Greensboro, NC A&T, NC Central, Chowan, Shaw, St, Augustine's, Fayetteville State, Elizabeth City State, UNC-Pembroke, NC Wesleyan, Methodist and UNC-Charlotte.

WW

Hopefully we can revisit the OOC between Wabash and HSC once both programs rebound. Good luck to the LG's this year.

Hasa

Thanks for your input. GC playing Davidson this year ?
Yes, the Quakers visit Davidson at 7 pm on Sept. 15 after Huntingdon and Methodist the first two weeks.  Ferrum fills the Jacksonville spot this year.

BTW, I visited Wabash in Crawfordsville last year a very nice looking campus.

I don't really understand non-scholarship D1 football. What does that really mean ? Davidson would struggle to win the ODAC or most other D3 conferences.
D1 non-scholarship football is really D3 football advertising itself as something not D3, right, at least in Davidson's case.

I think that's an oversimplification.  Davidson might be a really bad team in the Pioneer League, but the average and better teams there would be overwhelming to all but the very best of D3.
Wally_wabash is right.  Guilford played both Davidson and Jacksonville last year on the road.  I saw the games in person I am telling you, both the Wildcats and the Dolphins would have probably run the table in the ODAC last season.  The difference in speed, size and strength is obvious when you see them in person.

I'm in Oregon.  I saw Willamette's stadium this week and saw Linfield years ago.  George Fox is in Newberg, but they're advertising Bruins football on billboards on I-5.

I am a little bias! I know that W&L has a new Head Coach but look for them to be even better this year! Looking for another Championship! ;D
Hi, Generals98.  I see this is your first post welcome to the forum and +1 to get you started.

GC going to be pretty good this year ?
Not 100 percent sure, tfa2.  I think many players are back, including De'Eric Bell, and recruiting went well, but the QB spot is up for grabs.  I hear it will be very competitive to settle on a starter.  We have four ODAC games on the road and play at Davidson again. Top heavy home in early part of the season three of last four ODAC games on the road.  I personally wish no ODAC team finished with last two on the road or at home.
