Barring any catastrophic changes in approach and support, I'd be hard pressed to believe there will be a serious changing of the guard anytime soon. Although I suppose you could make the case that that is what is happening at Amherst, I just think them and Williams will always be poised to compete at the highest level more consistently than the rest of the league. With that being said, we always see other schools pop up and put together a few nice runs---such is life in a high academic conference with such deep pockets.

For example, in the last 6 seasons we've seen Hamilton advance to the Sweet 16 twice, Colby come a 40 foot prayer away from winning the NESCAC, Trinity and Bates playing against each other in the Sweet 16, and an additional 2 Sweet 16 appearances for Tufts, one of which could've continued had it not been for COVID. However, in that same time frame, Williams and Amherst also made two more Final Four appearances.

I'm sure plenty of teams will continue to make runs like that in the future, Conn potentially being one of them. But I'm going to need to see a pretty big sample size before the league changes hands.

I follow the Centennial and MAC Conferences. This was a good reminder just how good this conference is. Question, what does a NESCAC coach, alumni etc. mean when they say "take basketball serious"? What type of investment constitutes that? Would that be judged on budget, assistant coaching positions, coaches salary, travel ability, facilities? What else... packages? In the leagues I follow, I would say FnM puts the most into their hoops program. Stevens Tech, DeSales too (both FT assistants). Centennial has three full time assistants (FnM, Gburg, Ursinus) and the MAC has a few FT I know of (DeSales, Wilkes, Stevens Tech, Stevenson, Albright). I think packages and assistant coaching positions can be the difference makers.

Take care!

Great for Nick. That's a national job and one of the better ones in the country... I think he has 3 years to show he can take them where I believe alumni/admin/fans think they should be- top of league and national contenders (call it top 20-30. Great financial aid packages, history and program legacy, academics, full time assistant coach at 46-52k with second assistant around 10k... recruiting resources endless. Ability to get international kids at a fraction of the cost vs other Centennials. They need to show success sooner than later!

I'm sure they were from great programs (JHU ie). I just assumed there would be more D1 assistant finalists, Ivy/Patriot type and some D3 head coaches. Certainly not taking anything away from anyone involved regardless of current position. That's great to hear three DIII assistants had a shot at it.

Strong recruiting class for F&M has certainly helped Nichay stake a claim. The D1 assistant from Rice is local to F&M, played in the local high school league (The Lancaster Lebanon League "LL"), went to Colgate and was several time all league, coached at Hobart and as mentioned is at Rice- talk about academic. If I were Nichay I'd be concerned that the rest of the league has seen an uptick in success hiring D1 assistants (Haverford, JHU, WAC, Swat)... for Nichay having Jeremiah Henry in staff certainly garners for him tons (TONS) of alumni and local support. Interesting situation and case can be greatly made for either finalist.

I'm shocked the other two finalists were D3 assistant coaches. It's FnM!

Will FnM name AD or new HC first?

What has the world come to when people can't see the WINNING Danzig gives the program. I am sorry but Scranton is nothing special these days, AT ALL, in any way, many schools have caught up to the powers of yesterday and frankly have surpassed them. No recurit today cares about a national championship run how ever many years ago, different age, they are more concerned with how many people like their latest social media post. Some expect Scranton to literally win a national title with a roster from NEPA... get out of here ... times have changed and to think you are winning with NEPA kids all day is borderline laughable. The recruiting landscape in general has changed with tuition costs and less college bound 17-18 years looking for schools today than 20 years ago. Take the top 3 players from Scranton, Marywood, Kings, Wilkes and Misericordia and STILL you aren't better than you are now. Maybe a win or two more. Lets argue the below to start (and no national title or final 4 will get you laughed at):

2019-20 (19-8, 10-4 LAND)
2018-19 (20-6, 9-5 LAND)
2017-18 (13-12, 9-5 LAND)
2016-17 (22-7, 11-3 LAND)
2015-16 (19-8, 11-5 LAND)
2014-15 (23-6, 14-2 LAND)
2013-14 (24-4, 12-2 LAND)
2012-13 (19-7, 10-4 LAND)
2011-12 (23-8, 11-3 LAND)
2010-11 (20-6, 11-3 LAND)

Not too familiar with this conference but do follow scores of the teams near the top (Scranton, Moravian, Susquehanna)... Is it traditionally the same 3-5 teams that compete for the playoffs? What's the hardship for Goucher and Elizabethtown? Etown has a strong(er) tradition than what's been reflected, can Goucher compete at all? Admittedly I do not know much about either school aside from just looking at scores and records of their basketball teams the past few years.

You're asking about the Landmark Conference members which is a different board in the Mid-Atlantic from this one(CAC). All the members have the same general "hardship", not just E-town and Goucher; probably why they formed the conference of like-minded institutions. There hasn't been a high quality player in the whole conference since Jay Howard of Catholic a few years ago. E-town and Goucher changed coaches a few seasons ago but little progress has occurred. Maybe too expensive and too much competition in the Mid-Atlantic for the few prospects.

Sorry Ronk, I was on the wrong board, thought I was on Landmark. Appreciate the reply.

Is there anyone hearing or has more on the rumors about Wesley closing? That their staying open is solely dependent on full state funding? Their argument being students are from and remain in DE. Wesley is down 372 students over the past 5 years per Delaware Business Times. Friends daughter is an adjunct there. She mentioned of hearing rumors of absorption by Delaware or Del State.

I'll go out on a limb based on info I've gathered over the last few weeks ... Wesley's conference to lose.

I'll leave it at that ... some info I can't share because I'm trusted not to :)

Dave, out of curiosity, does Wesley have everyone you thought they would have this year?

Nothing special over the weekend for the Freedom. A few teams beat PSU Branch campuses and Eastern was beaten 100-
70 something by Swarthmore.

Tonight I'll make some picks:

DeSales over Muhlenburg 82-73
TCNJ 79 over Mis 66
Jersey City 74 over Stevens 65
Wilkes 104 over PSU Hazelton 60
Cabrini 83 over Eastern 78
Kings 72 over PSU Scranton 68
St. Elizabeth 68 over FDU Florham 66

Del Val does not play as they play again Friday @ Muhlenburg

I am not against transfers... no reason to be and transfers can be amazing assets to any program. Del Val has to be hard to recruit to- facilities, lack of majors and rising costs. They are probably last in the MAC in all three, or bottom 2 now that Manhattanville departed. I imagine recruiting four year players is a major challenge there, my opinion. No sports are team wise successful in recent years with the exception of basketball and football. Wrestling has been with individuals. Again last 5 years talking.

I agree on DeSales. They are the class of D3 Hoops in the area after Swarthmore.
