Josh Karsner led three Centre players in double figures scoring 19 tonight @ the Hangar Dome to defeat Millsaps 56-42.  It was an ugly offensive affair the opening 20 minutes as neither team could consistently find the hoop.  The Colonels surged ahead late in the 1st half and seized control quickly in the 2nd half with several key threes to build a 10+ point cushion that they comfortably maintained the remainder of the game.  Centre, now 8-2 and 2-0 in conference play, heads to Birmingham Southern for a Sunday afternoon game.

Going to be interesting to see what happens over the next two weeks with Centre playing B-SC tomorrow,  then Sewanee on the 1/12 and then OU the following weekend.

Centre probably wins over Sewanee but Birmingham Southern and Oglethorpe are likely road losses.

Centre gave it a good go but their 6-game win streak ends at Birmingham Southern 73-69.  Colonels had a possession down 1 point with 40 seconds to play but failed to convert.  The Panthers then milked the clock with senior point guard Blaise White dropping a deep three with time running out on the shot clock.  Good competitive road game in the SAA; Centre committed too many turnovers, fouls and gave up a bunch of 3's to White and Larry Thomas that ultimately made for the final outcome.  Thomas lit it up for 29 including 5-7 on 3's. Bryon Ellis led the Colonels with 14.  Freshman Holden  Hertzel had a nice game with 8 points and 6 rebounds.  Centre leaves Bill Battle Coliseum 8-3 and 2-1 in the SAA.  They will play a non-league game hosting Brescia Wednesday before taking on Sewanee Saturday.

Colonels win easily @ home against Sewanee this afternoon 59-45. Sloppy game in most respects with poor shooting from both squads. Ellis and Wesley led Centre with 12 points each.

Good balance tonight as Centre defeats Oglethorpe 67-57 to go 11-3 overall.  The Colonels turned around a late streak of sloppiness in the 1st half to score the first 13 points to open the 2nd half & open up a decent margin.  Tyler Wesley led the Colonels with a double-double.  Donavan Whiteside and Colin Lopez scored double figures as well.

Tight game early in the 2nd half @ Rhodes with Millsaps leading by 3.  The Majors shot lights out in the opening half knocking down 8-11 threes and led 38-31 at the half.

Rhodes wins 70-61; Theo Hartwell scored 18.  Millsaps played well and hung around to near the end. Battle of the Titans Sunday with Rhodes hosting Birmingham Southern to see who holds on to 1st place in the SAA.

Rhodes takes over sole possession of 1st place with a home court win over Birmingham Southern this afternoon.  Rhodes' intensity showed from the opening tip as they did a nice job of controlling pace.  Andrew Galow led the Lynx with 26.  Birmingham Southern and Centre now share 2nd place @ 5-1 while Rhodes moved to 6-0 in conference play.

Colonels shoot effectively tonight in defeating Hendrix in Danville 80-43.  Hendrix struggled to find the basket from all angles & distances from the opening tip as Centre stretched the lead quickly in running up to a 38-21 halftime lead.  The score honestly was closer than the actual play seemed.  Bryon Ellis led four Centre players in double figures by tallying 16.  Blake Scinta got some action tonight coming off an injury.  Colonels will welcome Rhodes Sunday afternoon for a showdown to see who takes control of the league heading into February.  Rhodes is trailing Sewanee tonight 34-14 at the half on the mountain.

Tale of 2 halves @ Sewanee as the Tigers hold on to win 59-56 after nearly giving up a 20 point halftime cushion.  Sewanee's shooting was the difference as they scored 11-17 from the 3-point line.  Lewis Affronti was a perfect 5-5.   Andrew Galow willed his Lynx team in their 2nd half run by posting 26.  The SAA now is knotted @ the top with Rhodes, Birmingham Southern and Centre all carrying 6-1 records.

Rhodes is playing well as they lead Centre at the break 33-29.  Centre appears a step slow with Rhodes crisply moving the ball around on the offensive end.  The perimeter has been good for Rhodes as they are 6-11 from behind the arc.  Even the Lynx's backup post player scored 2 wide open triples.  Centre needs to take advantage of its size to exploit Rhodes inside. Defense will need to tighten up if the Colonels are going to emerge victorious today.

Centre gets the W as they defeat Rhodes 70-55.  The Colonels changed the tempo of the game early in the 2nd half by using a soft man-to-man full court press which slowed Rhodes' quick ball movement.  The Lynx got called for a number of fouls which helped Centre open the lead.  The Colonels knocked down 30-36 free throws with Blake Scinta nailing 11-13 of them in leading the team with 15 points.  Good balanced scoring and excellent bench play from Centre today as they hit the road for Georgia next weekend.

Must win game tonight for Oglethorpe. Have played well. Even better than many have expected but need a win over a top quality opponent to gather momemtum for conference tournament.  Looking forward to being courtside tonight and hope for big crowd.

While OU played lights out last night against Centre they are fighting for their lives at home tonight against Sewanee.

Sewanee wins 57-51.  I have been short changing this team during the season.  I am taking notice now!  Granted Oglethorpe played poorly tonight, but the Tigers showed a lot of grit in winning a road game against a solid team at a tough venue.

Thought in witnessing Oglethorpe's Friday night victory over Centre that the Stormy Petrels looked outstanding for their late 2nd half run where they out scored the Colonels 31-5 in the final 10 minutes of the game in overcoming a 13 point deficit.  I was a little shocked that Centre had no energy to make any sort of comeback once Oglethorpe took the lead.  OU was simply that dominating.
