Wheaton's newcomers announced:

http://athletics.wheaton.edu/news/2017/5/4/the-thunder-mens-basketball-program-announces-eight-newcomers-for-the-2017-18-season-update.aspx

Mike Schauer  states of the newcomers to his program,  "This recruiting class continues the upward momentum of the program from this past season. It is a talented and deep group. The class has size and versatility at several positions.  As is usually the case for Wheaton Basketball this group comes from all over the country.  Wheaton Basketball should be very good in the upcoming years."

which team is hoarding guards now ?  9 guards listed on the roster with no seniors last year and 5 incoming freshmen !  Certainly has size and versatility at the guard position

The transfer included in that group, Will Davidson (rising sophomore coming in from Trinity International), actually played in 35 games this past season for the Trojans, not 19 as the article stated. That's pretty significant, since the Trojans won 30 games and reached the NAIA D2 quarterfinals. He averaged 1.5 ppg and 0.7 rpg.

But, 1.5 and ppg and 0.7 rpg don't seem very significant.  😏 🙄

Yeah, his numbers as a Trojan were miniscule, and he only averaged around six minutes per game. But he did get into 35 games as a freshman for a team that made it to the NAIA-D2 Elite Eight, so that does say something. Perhaps he was a defensive-oriented sub.

A great day to be a Titan -- IWU wins FOUR conference tournament championships in one day:  men's golf, softball, men's and women's lacrosse.  All to the D3 national tournaments to follow.  Baseball had a sad ending, losing their last 6 games.  Women's track and field couldn't do it again . . . finishing 3rd, I believe, this year.  Congrats to all the Titan athletes and to the other conference championship winners.

Graduation Day at IWU on Sunday -- warm congrats to the Class of '17 and thanks to all the athletes, volunteers, athletic program staff, TAs, trainers, and coaches who made all these athletic seasons and achievements so memorable.  Good luck to all the seniors in future studies and endeavors.  Stay close to your IWU friends, faculty and coaching mentors . . . and always support IWU and the Titan nation!

Good luck!

Had the pleasure of attending the annual North Central basketball banquet on Friday evening. This year the festivities took place at the Tamarack Country Club in Naperville.
Following dinner, a stirring senior address by the loquacious Jagger Anderson, and the season highlight film, Head Coach Todd Raridon presented letters and plaques to the following award winners.

Letters were awarded to;

Senior
Jagger Anderson

Juniors
Erwin Henry
Alex Sorenson

Sophomores
Tommy Koth
Jaquan Phipps
Aiden Chang
Jack Bronec

Freshmen
Nick Chambers
Matt Cappelletti

Alex Sorenson (First Team), and Erwin Henry (Second Team) received their All-Conference award plaques.

Aiden Chang received the Scholarship Award
Aiden Chang received the Defensive POY Award (voted by teammates)
Alex Sorenson received the Team MVP Award (voted by teammates)

The Cardinals finished the year at 18-11, won the CCIW Conference Tournament, advanced to the 2nd round of the national Tournament, and finished #28 in the Final D3Hoops Poll. Along the way, they defeated #3 Augustana, #18 Wartburg, #23 Benedictine, and ORV Wooster, and lost by one point to #7 Hanover in the 2nd round of the national tournament in a game they should have won.
This despite losing pre-season All-American Connor Raridon for the remainder of the season in the seventh game. They also lost 6'7" sixth man Sam Fehrle after four games.

Next year, as is obvious to everyone, NCC's biggest question heading into the season is who will replace Anderson at the point. Losing only Jagger, they will reacquire both Raridon and Fehrle, add some talented newcomers (all of which have not yet been announced), and should be primed for a standout season. Chemistry, defense, and consistent execution will play prominent roles. However, the talent and potential are there. The onus to come together, and reach that high degree of potential, is squarely on the player's shoulders.

AO, surely looks like NCC should be right there at the top of the pre-season rankings with Augie.  A very powerful team coming back, esp. if Raridon is fully healthy again.

Have a good summer, all CCIW chatsters.

I wonder how many games a Cardinal must play in order to letter?  Do we know if Coach Raridon has filed paperwork with the NCAA to obtain a medical redshirt for his son?

I'll say.  Lot of talent and young guys who received some unexpected but invaluable time on the court last season.

I wonder (A) how many games a Cardinal must play in order to letter?  (B) Do we know if Coach Raridon has filed paperwork with the NCAA to obtain a medical redshirt for his son?

A - 75%
B - Filed several weeks ago and approved.

The med red paperwork isn't filed with the NCAA, Mark. In D3, medical hardship waivers (aka medical redshirts) are administered and approved by the member conferences. This is from the most recent edition of the NCAA Division III Manual available online (2015-16):

Quote
14.2.5.1 Administration of Hardship Waiver. The hardship waiver shall be administered by the member
conferences of the Association or, in the case of an independent member institution, by the Committee on
Student-Athlete Reinstatement. An institution may appeal a decision by its conference to the Committee on
Student-Athlete Reinstatement. (Revised: 1/12/04)

CR has been playing in open gym since NCC returned from spring break about 4 weeks ago and looks to be fully healed. He has full range of motion, flexion, and extension.

He should really just change his jersey number to 7.

CR7 I'm sure someone might get a little annoyed though (soccer reference).
