Kolden confirming he's in the portal. Not sure if that's news

Well that seems less than ideal.  I know it doesn't mean he's for sure leaving, but oof, that's rough to see.

I know this won't be for everyone, but as a NP fan I'm loving reading this sub stack from sports writer Gordon Edes.

https://gordonedes.substack.com

It absolutely has a blue and gold tint to it, but it gives some really great background about an exciting coach and players who seem like they are ready for something big this year.

Living almost 3,500 kilometres away (I live in Canada, we use km up here), this is the most I've been able to get to know a North Park basketball team since I was an undergrad.

DePaul 74 - NP 63.

NP out rebounded DePaul 33-32, NP had fewer turnovers (16-18), and NP had 4 more steals (11-7).  The steals and turnovers were things I would have hoped NP would have been close on.  The rebound stat is exciting to me.

Purely watching the gamecast (I had to talk too much in my meeting to sneak AirPods in during it), it seemed like NP kept it close-ish for much of the game.

I'm encouraged, and looking forward to GS's recap of the game.

Greg, do you know if that game will be viewable online anywhere? I did see a link on DePaul's website for audio, but I'll be in a meeting during the game (a video feed is a lot easier to hide than audio!).

Millikin scored 3 of their 4 goals in the last 3:30ish.  Just a disaster for DePaul.

North Park has a late addition to the roster: 5'10 rising junior Julian Gatewood out of Homewood-Flossmoor. As a starter in the Aurora backcourt last season he averaged 9.4 ppg for the Spartans, but it was his shooting line that was particularly impressive: .449/.393/.903, as he led Aurora in treys made as well as trey percentage. With Jonah Ogunsanya sitting out the upcoming season due to injury, it's likely that Gatewood will compete with Davante Robinson for the role of designated sharpshooter off the bench.

You know I'm excited about an HF alum!

This note could probably be added to any of the boards, since Greg is a great contributor with all of them.  But I know Greg's passion for NPU sports probably started with basketball.

Congratulations to Greg Sager for receiving the call to the NPU Viking Hall of Fame with his induction scheduled for December 2nd.

Congratulations Greg!  The time, energy, and passion you put in to supporting NP sports is one of the reasons I still care about following and watching still.

They also have Illinois College as a 6.5pt favorite at Wheaton with a 38% chance to win. IC has a 107 offensive PPP and 90.9 on defense. Interesting data.

Yeah I was confused by that, do you think they just put that -6.5 on the wrong line?  It has Wheaton with a 62% chance to win...

NP 66 Wheaton 63.  There's a big win for NP!

I thought the last play was definitely a foul (and a replay seems to confirm there was contact on Tyson's arm on the shot), but given the way the game had been played, it was probably the least amount of contact I had seen most of the game so wouldn't have been surprised if it wasn't called.

Heck of a game and a tough one to be on the losing side.

Maybe that's what I meant by generous.  I actually thought a foul could have been called against Wheaton on the shot just seconds before that briefly gave IWU the lead.  Definitely a rough way for IWU to lose.

Always blue and gold, yes, and generally always whatever colours are playing against Wheaton.

Oof, that call at the end of the Wheaton IWU game seemed really generous.

North Park somehow comes back from down 18 to win 85-80.

The admin seemed to be vibing with my vision for the program.

First change: since the candy cane striped uniforms have brought more doorstops than we have doors for the cross country team, there's gonna be a new look to the team's uniforms.  With the boost we receive from NCTV-17's coverage, we expect these will go viral much in the way that "Mumford Phys Ed" shirts did after their star turn in "Beverly Hills Cop".  This will bring unimaginable riches to the athletic department, and will facilitate change #2.

This seems uncomfortably Indiana/Wabash-esque for an Illinois-based school. But, hey, you're the new boss.

Homewood-Flossmoor High School circa the 1970s-80s is deeply offended by your suggestion that this has no roots in the Land of Lincoln.

HF kept those around all the way until 2000!

I was baffled by that Red as well, but in the box score it looks like it was a second yellow.  I'm still not sure what it was for.

And I had the same thoughts about F&M's playing style, it really didn't matter much that they were up a man and kept their same style... and the result showed it.  They eked out a 1-0 win, scoring on a header off a throw in.

Carthage just went to Calvin and came away with a 1-0 win.  And honestly, Carthage looked like the better team to me.
