I think I stayed at one in grand forks-very classy.

You stayed at THE one in Grand Forks. It had it ALL. Steaks, comedy shows, gift shops, swimming pool shaped like a cowboy boot. The works really, full spread.

I was curious, so I checked it out. Since it's inception (1993) there has been 1 Jr selected for the award. Burke from Mount in 2013. The rest have been Seniors. The J-Club is stingy to underclassmen.

I was curious, too, and here's the Gagliardi Trophy panel.  I see 5 of 39 voters with SJU ties.

I included Austin Murphy since he spent a year with the Johnnies and wrote a book about it.

Game of Thrones Season 8 trailer out.  Jaime Lannister to the rescue!

EDIT:  Also, day two of pre-season training.  The boys are blowing out the cobwebs.  Specifically pictured is nineteen-year-old James Worpel, the man-child.  He arrived as a first-year player out of last year's draft with a body that already looked like it belonged to a 22-year-old.  It looks like he's put on a little beef over the season.  Should be great fun to watch as he loves banging it in the middle of the pack and going after the contested hard-ball-get.

And a little light humour with a player, Jack Higgins of the Richmond Tigers, who is a frequent media interview basically because he's had absolutely zero media training and apparently has no intention of every getting any.  He's an interview train wreck.

Don't know about the rest of you but I need either closed captioning or a translator.  Takes "The United States and Great Britain are two countries separated by a common language" to a whole new level.

Definitely seems like a goof, though.   :D

Definitely.  One that made me laugh is that he kept referring to getting some "snags".  "Snag" is slang for a sausage, like you cook on a BBQ.  Sausage is short for sausage roll, a meat-filled pastry treat that is popular here.  Sausage roll is rhyming slang for a goal.  So, if you get a snag is means you kicked a goal.  Obvious.

(Another one was that he referred to a play by a teammate as "she's apples".  Of course that's short for "apples and spice" which rhymes with "nice".  So if something is good to look at (like some crafty play or a girl specifically) then "she's apples".  Piece of cake, this country.)

The voting panel is what you see there, yes, but a candidate has to get out of committee to get in front of those voters, and the committee is the J-Club. But the group does seem to be interested in making sure they get the best guys on the ballot.

I think Carswell wins it.  Trine's collapse in the first round of the finals puts some doubt in there and Erdmann's strong performance deep into the post-season adds more question, but I still think Carswell.

What's a little unclear to me is how much emphasis is put on football and how much is put on academics, community service, etc.  I think Erdmann has a strong resume (frankly, they all do, as they should), but being a junior probably hinders his chances.  I've been surprised before, though.

"December 7th 1941, a date which will live in infamy."

As this week the nation paid last tribute to a former President, earlier this year the remains of an uncle of mine (mom's brother) who died at the attack on Pearl Harbor was identified in Hawaii and brought back to Iowa for burial.

Both the former President and a farm boy from Iowa were given proper respect. My Uncle died on the USS Oklahoma on this date 77 years ago. Obviously I didn't know him, it was decades before I was born. But my mom always talked about him. She is in one of these pictures and looks to be about 15 years old.

That's pretty incredible, BDB.  Thanks for the reminder of things that truly matter!

Great story BDB. I remember the attack on Pearl Harbor. I was 1 month shy of being 6 years old. Your uncle and his comrades were real life heroes. They truly were our greatest generation. They have had a special place in my heart for most of my 82 years. Thank you for helping us all to remember. 😥 🇺🇸

+k Bob. Thanks for reminding us of The Greatest Generation. I can just barely remember the President's speech about the 'dastardly attack'.   :'(
