Then maybe DI should just be separated from Universities altogether, made clearly commercial (yes, with players unions -- which may be coming) and let the institutions get back to their core mission which is, believe it or not, educating the citizenry in various fields on the tax-payers' and parents' dime.  Let DI be what it seems to be for so many, prep/development leagues for the NFL, NBA etc. The one-and-done philosophy as exemplified by KY. is reprehensible, IMHO.

Make all of the protests on behalf of your Wolverines as you like, but you know that they're just as tainted as the rest of them. After all, how many other D1 schools ever had to vacate an NIT title, a Big Ten tourney title, and four D1 tourney appearances (including a Final Four) due to a massive booster-payments rules violation?
My Gophers had very similar penalties for their academic fraud.  I could care less what the record books say, they didn't cheat to recruit the players as Michigan did or give them steroids.

I really don't care how well the kids are doing in class.  If LeBron doesn't want to take calculus I'm not going to force him.  I'm similarly not impressed by "student-athletes" who are praised for staying eligible in their phy-ed program.  Does another student who works nights as a cafeteria worker have to be suspended from his job if he didn't get a 2.0 last semester?  D1 hasn't been amateur for quite some time, appreciate it for what it is.

Top bold: There were never allegations of steroids in the scandal.  Probably the players were all coming to Michigan regardless of payments, but, yes, an out-of-control booster (a bookie at an auto plant who thought he was big-time mafia) made big payments - he died before charges could be brought) did outrageous things.  Should UM have known - undoubtedly.  Did they know - there is no such evidence.

Bottom bold: As long as these things are occurring at universities, I certainly care about the kids going to (and succeeding) in classes!  Otherwise, get the programs the hell out of universities and into minor leagues!  Alas, as another poster mentioned, there is NO incentive currently for the NBA (or NFL) to sponsor such 'minor leagues', since the D1 programs already do it at no cost to them (and give huge advertising for the future players; while who except total stat nerds knows of any minor league baseball players except maybe hot prospects for their particular team?)

@BRose_13 Well I am officially committed to go to Illinois Wesleyan and play ball for my pops!!!!

Ron Rose and the Titans have landed 6-2 combo guard Brady Rose of Bloomington H.S.  Rose averaged 16.7 points and 3.3 assists as a senior, and made 82 3-pointers.  He was named 1st Team All-Big 12 and 1st Team Pantagraph All-Area.

Rose is most known for his ability to shoot the basketball.  He is a pure 3-point and mid-range jump shooter.  Rose also handles the ball well and while more SG than PG, can play the 1.

Rose had some higher level scholarship offers and interest.  He should be a really good player for the Titans.

They already are clearly commercial, they just pay the players relatively poorly compared with their worth.  It would seem very odd to separate the most profitable programs of the university which support the academic mission and keep alumni involved and donating.  There are 350 D1 Basketball teams and only about 20 players every year from the NCAA get drafted in the 1st round with guaranteed NBA contracts.  It isn't a NBA developmental league.  The few kids that are "one and done" are also the ones who generate the most value for their university.  I don't see the harm.

I wasn't saying the Michigan players took steroids.  I will defer to your knowledge about the booster payments.  I'm just trying to make the distinction between Barry Bonds/SMU football style cheating and lazy students whose laziness didn't give them an advantage on the court.

I shouldn't say I don't care at all about the kids going to class, I just don't care more about their classwork than any of the other non-athletes at the school.

Seems like a huge mistake.  Should have followed his cousin Jalen to Michigan, where reading is optional.  :o

The CCIW has a great tradition (and success) with coaches' sons playing for 'pops'.  Most recently (and prominently) there's Steve Djurickovic and Derek Raridon.  37+ years ago (how time flies! :(), there was Eric Bridges (unlike his dad, who went from 2nd team in 1960 to 1st in 1961, he 'regressed', being 1st team in 1986, 2nd team in 1987).

Who have I forgotten?

Welcome to IWU, to the Titan nation, Brady Rose.  Happy to see this.  Like Father, like Son.  Brady a good defender, good assist man, SG and PG, a great trey shooter.  Probably not as good an assist man as his Dad, but surely a better shooter!  Like Q mentioned, I think Rose is a very good CCIW player at the end of the day.  He'll need to work hard, get stronger, etc., but the basketball skills, the shooting skills in particular, are there.  As a BHS player, he's played in The Shirk many times.  Welcome home, Brady!  (Reading not optional at IWU, be assured).

Next year -- another Seibring and a Peacock!???  :)

More recruits surely to come in the next few weeks -- after the normal April 15th time for college decisions, deposits.

A well-deserved smite to you.

I don't know whether your shot was directed more to Michigan or Jalen Rose, but either is totally unwarranted.  Michigan has a much higher than average graduation rate for bball players.  Jalen not only has a college degree, he is funding a charter school and (ironically, given your character assassination) many reading programs.

Time to crawl back under your rock.

John, Kerry, and Randy Pfund all played for father Lee Pfund at Wheaton, and all were stars. John scored almost two thousand points for Wheaton during the '60s, when the Crusaders were in the midst of their Babylonian Captivity in the independent ranks. After the school returned to the CCIW, John's brother Kerry was an All-CCIW player in 1971, and youngest brother Randy made the All-CCIW team in '72 and '74 before going on to a career as an NBA coach and executive. All three Pfund brothers are in Wheaton's Thousand Points Club.

And you're forgetting a recent player: Derek Raridon's older brother Mitch, who also played for dear old dad and who continues to be an active part of North Central's Raridon connection by serving as an assistant coach.

If there are other father-son combos out there in the CCIW history books, I would bet that Dennis Prikkel would be the guy to identify them here.

Kudos and Karma to you, Greg, for your advice to Ypsi -- graphics included. :)  LOL.

Glad to see Brady Rose coming to IWU.  A solid player, good trey shooter.  Let's hope Ron Rose has some frontcourt pounders and bashers in the recruitment pipeline too, as he has a plethora of outstanding backcourt, perimeter players around for next year.  Perhaps you can never have enough, perimeter or paint players, though IWU surely needs worthy replacements now for bigmen Davis, Zman, Anderson and Dortch, and wingmen Zimmer and Mayberger,  Marietti returns, some others . . . likely Trevor Seibring in the mix.  As you know, I'm still hoping for a Rossi return.  Time will tell -- on returnees and recruitees.  Sodemann, Overstreet, Marietti returning starters.  Nelson, Stempel, perhaps Coyle likely in the mix, along with Dolan returning.  Lots of options and variations possible.  It will be an interesting, new squad, with a lot of experience coming back, tremendous talent and experience lost too.  Thanks again to those six seniors.  Graduation May 4th -- coming soon.
