I've been off this board and for quite some time. I hear there was some sort of football contest in Pella today?

Just popping back in after a way too long if an abscence. Very pleased with Wartburg's performance this year. Very puzzled with Central's. Any ideas why?

No matter how badly the Central season has gone, it just doesn't seem right not to get fired up for the Warburg game.  This being the last home game and all, I'm looking to The Dutch to bring some passion to it, eliminate the mistakes and make themselves proud against the Warts.

Well said!!  I think this game was the highlighted game for my family as it was not only a war on the field but also in the family.  With an empty nest now the war is not the same for us.  Both boys are busy with their own lives and jobs this is just not the same.  I would like to see the boys text messages though :) :) :) :) :) :)

Even the father/son ones can be good. I had to empty my inbox during the 49er game last night. It's a highlight of my week when we are watching the same game. Not as good as him watching it beside me, but I'll take what I can get!

Maybe it says something about a team when things that should never leave a locker room are brought out in public by a teammate. Just my opinion.

You could be on to something fbd.  Little Warthog's class played their last game against Linfield College on Thanksgiving weekend 2003 in Salem, Oregon. (The field in McMinnville, Oregon was unplayable.) Nine years later Little Warthog will not talk about anything that coaches or teammates did or said during his four years at Wartburg that he feels would embarrass or reflect poorly on the Wartburg Football Program.  He will occassionally do a solo act imitating Randy Laing's talk to the defense when they were trailing Luther at half-time one year, but that is all I've ever heard about things that happened behind closed doors.  I have to believe with over 100 players and 10 coaches wandering around there had to be some personality conflicts, fights, disciplinary action, and bruised feelings.  If there were any of these things happening, he won't talk about them.

I look at teammates like family. no matter what happens internally, I will fight anyone who says or does anything against a member of my family or my teammate. There is a bond there that can't be broken. What I find curious is that one who posts on here about the solidarity and sacrifice of a team will so easily throw a member under the bus. Granted,he may not have played with him, but they are the same football family. Odd.

You have some interesting points of view. The two things I would question you on. A) coach Mac is not a rah rah coach but he does get the most out of many Players. You don't need to be a HC to motivate players, zach pfantz was the best at getting players jacked up. Many times dewaard has his players play out of fear of getting berated and loosing a job, which is not what you want for some players.

A lot of the fire that is missing is just due to atmosphere...it is just not conducive to mustering up that raw emotion.

Another thing I would question you on is having Tim c coach....having talked to former players, ,let's just say he isn't thought of as highly of his peers as he is by you.
I am 100% behind Coach Mac and I do agree he gets the most out of his players.  I just want someone to get the team fired up to play from the opening kickoff because in most of the games, the Dutch sat out the first quarter.

You can go blaming the lack of fire on the atmosphere all you want, but I have watched MANY Central teams that were undefeated in the regular season and the atmosphere was the same then as it is now.  I agree Central needs to implement the stadium changes drawn up years ago, but changing the stadium is not going to make the crowd cheer any more than they did then or do now.  Yes, fans can fire a team up, I'm not disagreeing with that, but I was asked what the change was and atmosphere has not changed a bit, it has been consistently bad.   ;)

And Tim C remains the best QB I have seen at Central and he coaches.  Since I am not suggesting he come to Central to coach his peers, I really don't care what you believe they thought of him.  I don't know him personally, don't know that I even met him during his four years at Central while I worked at the college.  But, I imagine he does get respect from the players he coaches.  And I did personally watch some games where I felt he literally put the team on his back and carried them to victory.  So if his peers have a problem it might be jealousy.

To be fair, those teams were much more talented than this years team.

And perhaps you forgot some of the other players on the team during Tim Cs time....a very average QB could look stellar with those skill position players.
And by peers, I was referring to those that worked with him during his playing years...that includes coaches, players, managers, etc.
You might be a little testy too if you played your senior season at QB with a broken hand. It doesn't matter if he's liked as long as he's respected.

The people I have talked to that played, coached, worked with Tim, etc. didn't exude much respect for him...then again those that are most disgruntled will be the most vocal about it. So maybe it is only a small portion.

Maybe it says something about a team when things that should never leave a locker room are brought out in public by a teammate. Just my opinion.

In response to the hustle factor on the field. Knowing the extent of how game film is broken down and analyzed, I would find it hard to believe that someone jogging during a play would not get noticed in a big way. I'm sure that it would be called out on Sunday's meeting and for sure on Monday. Not knowing all the specifics or seeing the incident, there may be more to the story. I wouldn't think that Mac would put up with it.

I'm glad you commented in so many/few words.  You said exactly what I woud have said in a long long rant.

Just call me 85 Words or Less.

Cornell to UD took us just under an hour.  Coe would be 1:10 - 1:15 i would guess???

to make and the 4pm kickoff in Dubuque would make that difficult.

4:00?  I thought your kickoff was 5:00.  There is no way I can make both if I had the time wrong.

I guess the Hacienda gets my business.

Hey, Warthog!

Nothing makes a drive shorter than leaving after a Knight victory.  ;)

DDog, we enjoyed being able to spend time with you again. That game wasn't any easier on the Knight faithful. Just glad we got out alive from that one.

If your daughter was any cuter there would have to be some kind of warning label on her. She is such a well behaved young lady. I wish you could have found some cotton candy to make her day. Best of luck to you and your family.

Thanks for the sweet words about our daughter.  Wish I could have joined you, they had a great time!! :)

You are so welcome! Of course we really meant we bribed your daughter with sweets so your husband could get on the stripper bus. ;)

I got to witness yet another agonizing loss by my Spartans today.  I know it's woulda coulda shoulda, but this team is soooooo close to being 4-0 in the conference right now.  I feel horrible for those young men working so hard out there.  I know better days are ahead for you.

As hard as watching a loss like that is to take, it was made better by the warm welcome my daughter and I received by the Wartburg faithful.  NKD, fbd, wartnight and others welcomed us in, they even loaded my daughter up with sugar AND...AND...told her that losing a tooth on your way to a big event like a Wartburg game meant the tooth fairy was going to bring her $5.00 instead of the $2.00 she would normally get.  What great guys ;D  I was able to talk with warthog during half time, always great to catch up with him.  Overall, a great Saturday out, just wish the score of the game had been a bit different.

or maybe my significant other and I have a mutual respect and an adult relationship where we dont need permission to do things we want to do.... :o

After your significant other becomes your wife, you will find out that the secret to marital happiness is that you are incharge of vehicle maintence, home repair and lawn care. Everything else is just showing up when and where you are supposed to. ;)
I corrected for you (oh, I guess that is @ my house ;D)In reality I enjoy doing the home repair/lawn, but I work out of town & my better half has summers off, so many times when the lawn is ready, it is done by the time I get home.....
My advice to guys; marry a football fan!

In everlasting credit to my wife, she became a football fan so we could spend time together. It made it even better when our son played because she could actually make sense of the game. Of course I have to go shopping with her but that's the give and take.

Um, yeah. You will know me at the tailgate by the frying pan shaped divot in my skull.

Trying to talk the wife into going up for the game also. She likes browsing all the booths there for homecoming so I might actually get there.
