Which schools are joining the GNAC next season and who is departing? Thanks!

Suffolk is leaving for the Commonwealth Coast Conference at the end of the spring athletics season.

Dean joins GNAC in September-- First year as a full d3 member.  Dean is presently in the NECC.

Thanks for the info!! I'm obviously a bit confused by all of this conference roulette :) There are three or four Upstate New York teams who are leaving the NEAC at the end of the Spring and I could have sworn that I heard they were joining the GNAC. I'm now wondering where they are going if not the GNAC. I believe the schools are SUNY Poly, SUNY Cobleskill, Cazenovia and Wells. Let me know if you've heard anything about this.

I believe those NEAC schools are joining the NAC.  Our assumption (unconfirmed) is that the NAC is hoping to do East and West divisions to minimize travel from Upstate NY to Northern Maine and vice versa.

Is St. Joe's big enough to host a pod, if it even matters?

They will not host, regardless of capacity.

Existing gym at St. Joe's seats 342-- too small to host.  New expanded gym will get more seats, but the Bluejays are not in the top 2 in the regional rankings, so they travel next weekend.

Not entirely true ... yes, it is small and the NCAA may say no to them if it ever came to that, but they don't have minimums in the handbook for the opening weekend. Also, they can always go to another gym. That has happened often.

AMC Hoops- recruiting news- The Falcons have added an athletic forward in Rahsen Fisher- Trinity Catholic- Stamford, CT.
6`,5" forward runs the floor really well & is a strong rebounder. Typical Flying Falcon who finishes strong at the rim!

Amazing story about Coach Oliver's family and what his parents have gone through over the past couple months. Mitch's father, Ernie, who is at every single game, home or away, almost lost his life to the COVID Virus and John Pierson from News 8 did a really touching story on his battle. Hats off to Mr. Oliver and the entire family.

Some really strong late recruiting additions for St. Joseph's, according to NERR:

Chris Camille, a forward who was ranked second in Maine and 76 in New England, and Keigo Kimura, ranked 54 in CT and 135 in New England

Kimura is billed as a shooting specialist, which was St. Joseph's biggest weakness last year.

https://newenglandrecruitingreport.com/in-the-news/unsigned-senior-spotlight-keigo-kumara

They have loads of players who can attack and create, and if he can come in right away and just stand around and make open 3's, he could make a big impact for them.  And Camille is (along with WPI's John Adams at 74) the highest-ranked (by far) D3 recruit in New England this year, so he figures to make an impact this year.

If St. Joe's brings in another high profile transfer, they will be REALLY scary.  Even if not, with everyone back from last year (presumably) plus these two additions, they figure to be one of the most talented teams in the nation next year.  And they will STILL have only one senior on the roster, so they are set up for a major two-year run.

Until we see some roster consistency, I'm going to hold my breath on everyone being back.  I'm assuming guys who built profiles last year, at least a couple of them, might have scholarship shots down the line and might go that route (as we saw with the first roster).  I don't begrudge them at all, but I'd like to see St Joe's settle into a recruitment pattern.  It's exciting to see them good and competitive, though - I hope that continues.

That's fair Ryan.  But it does seem based on social media, and the fact that he already tried D1, that Jaecee is coming back.  If he, Jackson (been there two years and at his size, doubt he could move up), and Powell (who will be a senior) all return, that's all they need to be really good, along with the role guys who surely aren't moving up plus these two recruits.   Taelon Martin seems like the guy most likely to transfer, that was his plan I believe, but not sure he did enough as a frosh to excite D1 schools .... if he sticks around, he could explode next year.  For sure, will be curious to see their roster next year!

SpringSt7

I agree with both of you, but at least for the next 2-3 years, they do seem pretty set around Martin/Jackson/Powell, for all of the reasons you mentioned. At some point they are probably going to have to settle into a more standard recruitment pattern, either with Calhoun or post-Calhoun, but for now, it's hard to say it isn't bringing immediate results.

The off season has hit August and with it has come news of Division III Fall Championships being canceled for the same reason Winter Championships were derailed and Spring Championships pulled earlier this year: COVID 19 Pandemic.

The decision came on the heals of a vast majority of DIII institutions curtailing fall sports and many pushing winter sports starts on their campuses until January at the earliest.

What does this mean for the 2020-21 season of college basketball? Specifically what does it mean for Division III? Will there be a basketball season? Will it be a six-week-or-so-sprint? Or is there a way to adjust things?

On the Mid-Summer edition of the Hoopsville Podcast, we try and get some answers to those questions. We talk to one coach who actually has put together a proposal to start the season in January, with some changes to make it work including crowning a champion in April. And we talk to an administrator who also serves on the DIII Management Council to better under stand the decisions made to cancel championships and if shift a season like basketball is even possible.

Plus, we honor the best of the best in the last decade of Division III women's basketball. Gordon Mann joins us to discuss how the 2nd D3hoops.com Women's All-Decade came together (and hints of work on the men's list).

Guests include:
- Philip Ponder, Oglethorpe men's coach
- Jason Fein, Bates Athletics Director and DIII Management Council member
- Gordon Mann, D3hoops.com Senior Editor

And of course, there is always the Hoopsville Notebook. A few things we take note of that have made headlines since the beginning of July. We also tip our hat to a few of those who have always helped the show be it's best.

Hoopsville broadcasts from the WBCA/NABC Studio. All guests are featured on the BlueFrame Technology Hoopsville Hotline. The offseason plan is to do a podcast each month. The shows will be audio-only leading up to the start of the 2020-21 when we will restart the video shows.

Looks like Martin has transferred to a junior college in FLA.  https://dscfalcons.com/sports/mbkb/2019-20/releases/IncomingClass

Awful, terrible, sad news for the entire Albertus community. This one really hits home on so many levels.

Jahqwan "JQ" Walters was such a great basketball player but an even better person. He had such an outgoing personality and was always the first one to come over and say hello or just shake your hand and say thank you for coming out and supporting the team. A really remarkable spirit who went through a lot in his life and always seemed to have a positive attitude. Not only an all american player but an all american person. To have such a great life cut short due to gun violence is just incredibly sad and I pray for all of JQ's family and friends who new him.

As a fan, to feel such a connection to him simply as that, just a fan, I think speaks for this young mans personality and character. To graduate with a degree I know meant a lot to him from a few conversation we had together and then to see him sign a professional contract overseas to play basketball was the icing on the cake so to speak because it justified all the sweat and hard work he put in over the years. Not to mention being selected to play on the WeAreD3 team in "The Tournament." To this day, I have yet to see a player who shouldered as much as he had to and played all out for 40 minutes every single night.

JQ solidified himself as one of the greatest players to ever put on a Falcon jersey not just with his play on the court but his life off it. He attended games as regularly as he could when he was home as an alumnus and I will truly miss his smile and sense of humor in the stands.

RIP JQ, you will be missed dearly
