Simpson is good. Connor Riordan is the real deal, and he's got some teammates, especially guard John Barbee and center Adam Reiter, that are solid as well. UW-Platteville will probably have its hands full.

Carius had 2 monster games to start the year including 4 dunks in one of them

Platteville shooting 36% from 3 while allowing opponents to shoot 46%

All four games on the road!

Whitewater (3-0) at Monmouth (2-0)
Transfer Will Carius is averaging 30.5 ppg and 11 rpg. Whitewater's big men have their work cut out for them

Seems they did just fine in this one, WW 83-55. Carius topped Monmouth with 14 points on 4-18 from the field (1-6 beyond the arc), 5-8 FT, 8 R in 31 min.

Pfeifer came off the bench to lead UWW with 19 in 19 min, Andre Brown 16 in 17 min, Malik Clements 10 & 8 rebounds in 20 min. Warhawks led at the break 48-26 when they shot 62% from the field & 7 of 10 from 3 pt land. They took their largest lead, by 37 with 7:23 remaining in the game before cruising to victory by 28.

Austin Heidecker, 6'5" senior, is off to a great start. He had 20 rebounds, 18 points vs. Superior and is averaging 14 rebounds, 13 points per game. Falcons are 3-1, all on the road.

Last season, as a reserve, his single game highs were 10 rebounds vs. WW and 17 points vs Superior. He has made the Scholastic Honor Roll each year at UWRF.

His performance, plus the addition of several capable freshmen, one transfer, and the improvement of the other returners, have made the Falcons candidates to finish among the top four in the WIAC, at least at this early point in the season. Time will tell.

The WIAC went 6-2 last week, if anyone cares. Simpson rolled over Platteville, while La Crosse lost at St. John's.

The WIAC is now 22-8

Six games before the weekend schedule.

Stout (3-1) at Bethany Lutheran (2-4)
Beth by single digits

North Park (1-4) at Oshkosh (2-1)
Titans cruise

Northwestern (2-2) at River Falls (3-1)
Falcons take it

Beloit (2-2) at Whitewater ( 4-0)
Snow will be more challenging than Beloit

Eau Claire (3-1) at Superior (1-4)
I think Superior has gotten worse since leaving for the UMAC

Stevens Point (3-0) at Augustana (3-1)
It's not the NCAA Championship game, so we'll let Augie win this one

Pointer preview against Augustana tonight. Possibly a huge game with...NCAA tournament implications. Yeah, it's only November.

Beloit: 65
WARHAWKS: 92'

Based on final score you would get the impression this game was a walk in the park but that would only describe half of it.  The WARHAWKS scored first on a layup by Melvin Brown and built an eight point lead in the first twelve minutes.  However we couldn't really pull away for the rest of the half as some questionable shot selection and a Buccaneers team shooting 50% from the floor kept the difference in the three to six point range for the rest of the half until Riley Jensen's free throw ended the half 36-29. Jensen led the WARHAWKS with 8 points and the team, led by Malik Clements' 9, dominated the boards 24-11.  The second half was an entirely different story.  Beloit kept their deficit within single digits for the first three and half minutes until M Brown hit a three pointer giving the WARHAWKS their first double digit lead 46-36 and that was as close as the game would be the rest of the way.  The lead reached a high of twenty nine points, 88-59, on a pair of free throws from Noah Kaminski with about a minute and half remaining.  The WARHAWKS shot 66.7% from the floor in the half and continued to dominate on the boards 17-7.

M. Brown: 16 points
Clements: 12 points, 12 rebounds
Jensen: 10 points
Sachs, A. Brown, Tyron Bressler, Mitchell Pfeifer: 8 points

No question this is huge in terms of the NCAA tournament.  In Division III, games in November are just as important as games in late-February.

Both teams should be regionally ranked when that part of the year rolls around. Obviously the more wins you can get against teams in your region, especially those regionally ranked teams, the better. The winner of the game tonight gets a resume boost from Nov. 28th come tournament time in March.

Tough game for the Pointers in my estimation.  The size of Augustana really gave them fits last year in the Dells.  I do think UWSP is better this year than last...only lose Delmore but gain back Bublitz and Bublitz was UWSP's best player as a sophomore 2 years ago.  If somehow Koerner and Tauber can hit a couple outside shots it could draw Augie's bigs away from the hoop and open up some lanes for UWSP's guards.  If they can't do that, UWSP's guards will need to be really hot from the outside.  Will be a fun one to watch.
