WalstonHoover:

Thanks for the insight.

On to happier thoughts. :D

Be sure you and Mrs. WH join us for some pre-game festivities on Saturday.  We can discuss the Cyclone win over the Hawks ;D and figure out what happened at Millikin. Mr. & Mrs. Coco will be with us and I am sure they would like to see all their Wartburg friends. :)  Little Warthog will be coming over after a command performance at Ames. ;)  He would probably like to hear your input about this year's squad.  I'm glad to hear that DutchFan1 also plans to make a guest appearance. 8) We'll try to be by the pine trees on the lot west of the stadium.  Just look for the orange/black flag on the orange flag pole.  I hope the rest of the Wartburg D3.com Post Pattern posters can join us.  We should have plenty of food and beverages.  ::)

We sure would like to see Slick and all the rest of the Slickster clan.  Please extend our invitation to them.

Rest easy Wartburg fans.  Last Saturday was only one game in a long season.

I wasn't at the Wartburg blood letting over at Millikin last weekend, but the box score tells much of the story on both sides of the ball. :-[

On defense could it be there were too many tackles being made by people stationed behind the line of scrimmage? :o  One d-lineman had a big game.  The others didn't have much to write home about. :'(  There are seniors at these spots that should be stepping up.  ;)  Hopefully this year they understand the defensive schemes. ???  I'm not sure that has always been the case with these guys. :-\

On offense I notice three things that seemed odd.  Your leading receiver is a fullback who makes nearly 1/2 your receptions and yardage. ::)  The Knights are 100% successful from the Red Zone, but they only get there once. ;)  Wartburg really seems to be a team that can step it up based on the  1 for 12 third down conversion performance. :P

Possibly we will be seeing some different faces in weeks to come.  Or possibly we will see some leadership from the seniors. ;D

I find it amusing that the poll on this page lists Central as a potential surprise conference champion. :o  I personally wouldn't find it suprising at all.  Over the last fifty years Central has won or shared 23 IIAC titles.

The next closest is Wartburg with 10 titles.8)   No one else is in double figures.  Luther has 6. Simpson has 5.  BV, Dubuque, Wm Penn and Parsons each have 3. Relative newcomer Coe has 2.  UIU has 1.  Loras and Cornell have been shut out, however to be fair neither have been members for fifty years.

No, Central winning the title would be business as usual in the IIAC. ;)

Floyd in Iowa City:

I have to agree with you on the St.Ambrose situation.  I can't be too impressed with a conference (the Mid-States Football Association) that features two former Iowa Conference rejects William Penn and Iowa Wesleyan. ::)

We would love to have you on board.  Little Warthog and his West Deleware sweetie are doing the same Ames to Waverly excursion as you.  We are looking forward to seeing you there.

Are you going to pull out your orange hunting gear and join us at Wartburg on 9-10?  I just read my last e-mail from Mrs. Coco.  It sounds like they are heading east. 8)

Please, someone tell me Loras isn't going to ruin a perfectly good football field by painting soccer lines on it :'(  Even the biggest crowds at an IIAC soccer match don't have as many fans as Chalmers Field in Dubuque when the Spartans play Cornell in football.  I think Wartburg did the right thing by giving soccer its own field and bleachers to call home.  They even get crowds once in a while because they will do a soccer match on Saturday prior the a football game. ;)

CocoPuff want to be:

Excuse me while I adjust my hearing aid.  What were you trying to say?

Think about it, Why would any official be against a specific team?  Give it a rest.  The Spartans beat you like a red haired step child.   :'(

When Loras beat the Knights at Walston/Hoover, the DuHawks plain and simple took us to the woodshed.  Wartburg fans were stunned at the defeat, but I don't think there was a bunch of bitching and moaning about officials.  I do remember that several of us here on the board were critical of the Wartburg performance and general lack of emotion.  To the credit of Wartburg players and coaches they regrouped and put together a good season.

You will notice I said nothing about Wartburg being the only IIAC school with good athletes and good academics.  You read way more into by post than was there. ???

You will also note that Wartburg, in the past few years, has had large numbers of seniors on their roster.  I would guess that the percentage of players that last all four years at Wartburg is similar to most other schools. :o

Finally, if Loras didn't have any freshmen hang it up the first week of practice, the DuHawk practices aren't tough enough.  Every level of football, from PeeWees to the NFL looses some players in the preseason.  At some level of competition most people realize the sport is no longer for them. :(

That is why I recommend golf and tennis to young people.  You can play years with people that have similar talent levels. ;D

I understand that after the first week there aren't quite as many first year players at the "burg as there were last weekend. :(  That happens.  Some kids find out the change from high school to college is much bigger move than they thought it would be.  Unfortunately, there are always a few who think that the big change only happens if you jump to the D1 level.  Those kind of kids are in for a rude awakening. :o

All 90 or so of the players who moved in last weekend were something special on the high school team they played for last season. 8)  It doesn't make any difference if he is from Wadena, Iowa or Kissimmee, Florida.  Last year he was a stud.  Occasionally a player suddenly discovers he doesn't like being 5th team offensive guard. :-[  It is hard for him to look into the future and understand that Walston Hoover will graduate.  His time may come then, but if he has never had to wait it can be a blow to his ego. :'(

Harbor is right.  At least the kids who hang up their cleats are in a location where they will get a good education.  Perhaps not playing football will allow them the opportunity to explore other interest. ;)

The player who sticks it out for four years, whether he is an All-American or a reliable backup, will have a wonderful experience of being part of a very special football program. ;D

I will agree that I have bad breath, bad posture, bad eyes, bad manners, bad habits, bad friends, bad credit, bad memory and bad grammar.  How did I end up with bad karma?

Dave and Walston:

Wartburg has never again seen the type of speed I exhibited as I would dash across Bremer Avenue to get to 25 cent beer night at Pepe' Taco's.

I feel confident that Slick will back up my claim. :D

Wartburg will win it all in the IIAC.  I said it,so it must be true.  To quote the great Jerry Burns, "Who's gonna beat us?"

OK.  I guess I can live with.  I'm glad I get to write Wartburg in orange letters.
