gobash83 You are probably correct that it is more about finances but the article presented it as more of a student out of class time. With this and the fact that NCAA is looking at ways to cut back on D3 champions I am glad my daughter only has 2 years left. This season is safe for the schedule cut backs this year and hopefully it will not go into effect until the 2017 season.

General Division III issues / Re: Future of Division III

Have one daughter that played D3 softball and one still playing. Coach tells them before registering for spring classes what days they will miss. Its very few days. I am sure you can take an athletes days missed for sports and it is much less than the normal student skips. Maybe we are an isolated case. Not sure how a 10% reduction in games really helps that much. Seems a lot of northern schools go south during their spring break and play 10 -12 games.

Looks like D3 Presidents want to cut back on number of games played all sports except football and cross country.

Heard Salisbury's the other team in the final. IMHO, most surprising early exit was Trine.
I saw Trine play their first game and parts of game 2. Their season record was darn good, I think they had only 4 losses coming into the finals but they did not have a very good tournament.

I don't have a very deep history with D3 softball so I will take your word. Although several years ago PLU defeated Linfield in championship game, both from same conference. But that was probably an exception.
Why is D3 done that way? Is D2 done the same way? I would think NCAA would want to at least try and have a true national championship in all of their divisions and sports. Is it travel dollars they don't want to pay for? I don't doubt for one minute that Tufts was the best team in D3 last year but were the top 8 teams at the World Series?
As bracket stands, they will be one team guarantee outside of the top 20 (per the last NFCA rankings) that will make it to the World Series. Highest regional ranking of teams from the regions represented in those regionals is #3 with 4 of those teams being unranked regionally by the NCAA. So basically someone will get an easier opening round game at the world series.

Read all year how select committee would try to avoid conferences foes playing in same regional. Also they said they would attempt to have the higher ranked teams NOT knock themselves out prior to World Series; attempt to have the best 8 make it to World Series.
Well they failed. Piss pour job of grouping teams in regionals.

What causes the town of Salem, VA to get so many D2 and D3 softball championships? NCAA announced the locations for 2015-2018 and Salem has one each year; 2015-16 D3 and the 2017-18 D2. Went there back in 2011 and it was okay but nothing special. I drove in but I don't think they have a really big airport for those flying. Maybe they have lots of hotels; not hard to have more than Eau Claire, WS did.
I would much prefer having any championship played on a regulation fastpitch field, not one with temporary fences. Yea I know OKC is played on a slowpitch field but at least their fence is a little better.

At some point Mississippi College will be leaving as well so it will be an 11 team conference in a year or so.

At what point can they start giving athletic scholarships?
The provisional period stinks for the current seniors and maybe some of the underclassmen as they cannot compete in post season and cannot win a conference title.
